Got my fishing magnet yesterday. Picked up one of our cast iron pans. This is gonna be fun once I can get to some water where people have likely lost stuff.

Just don't head to the lake where so many of our members had their boating accidents that claimed so many firearms, it's like the Bermuda Triangle there.

If you can picture what the first few minutes of a cold snow look like swirling around on the road . That's what CA outside Sequoia park looks like. I thought CA's roads sure seem dirty, for as dry it is. The i realized that's ash from the fire 300 miles away.

We liked and voted for him, unfortunately he always came across as too stiff. Unlike the relaxed humorous side he finally showed on the Tonight Show after the election.

Throw in this quote of his and we were disappointed he lost

Spent some time on flatbed wiring today, more time tomorrow for a while anyways.

Blending '02 E-350 Powerstroke chassis circuitry with '79 F series wiring can be fun and exciting or a pain in the ass depending on your outlook, and everyone who has seen it in person as it currently sits pretty much says "wow", or something similar. And it's not done yet.

Next week I get the bumper back from powder coating and the receiver hitch shows up on Wednesday the email said. It's gonna be a real joy when this project is finished......found out there's a custom metal fab shop close to work, and I'm gonna visit with them about getting some brick shithouse nerf bars bent for me, and maybe an aluminum tube rail with light tabs for the headache rack on the bed. Need to see what the light pattern is from the rack first.

You're gonna love that MKIV, especially if you've ever had to take down an earlier Ruger MK pistol.

I run a TBAC 22 Takedown (Ti/magnum rated) on mine (scary black model), sweet guns for sure. So much fun to shoot with (Gemtech) subs.

The can's a take down, not the pistol.

I would have went with a can that goes on to a brake, instead of direct thread. Unless that end cap is removable.

We're talking about how easy it is to take down and reassemble the Mark IV.

I also thought I'd get a can that went on flash hider, but ended up getting that one instead. It will pretty much live on two .30 cal guns, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. I think the newer versions have that mounting option though. I'm going to check when I go back in.

I had a direct thread, till i realized as most do. They have more than 1 gun they want to use the suppressor on.

There's no right or wrong way when it comes to muzzle brake or direct thread mount. WE (those of use with NFA items) already know it's not the first 30 cal can you'll own.

Regarding the ruger 22/45 there's an aftermarket kit that makes it easier for those who have issues reassembling their pistol. Or want to simplify things

Cavscout, when will you be up here next? I need to borrow your fishing magnet. I was trying a new configuration in my locker to try and fit everything and managed to lodge a rifle in the way of the locking mechanism. Now everything is locked in there. I've done this before, but usually I'm able to shoulder the locker and knock something loose so I can get back in. That doesn't seem to be the case this time. Damnit.

Well the benefit for sure would be not having to remove flash hiders first, especially using on any of the .223 stuff I have.

Heya Wyome,

Kits are good for trailers and such, but all this stuff I'm doing is custom. At least I'm running extra circuits now so I only have to do it once, hopefully. I'm still on the fence about disconnect plugs under the headache rack in case I have to take the bed off someday. Any interruption in an exposed circuit is an invitation for problems later on down the road. I have plenty of good tools and quality materials to work with.

How you doin' man?

OtterbatHellcat

Are you making a schematic as you go for future trouble shooting?

OtterbatHellcat
11-24-2018, 22:51
Yes, and everything is getting labeled as well. Since I don't really want to spend $500 for 13 different colors, some circuits will be duplicate colors. It doesn't help I'm putting so many lights on it. Ha.

Irving
11-24-2018, 22:52
Are you planning on all LED lights so you don't need like six auxiliary batteries? I've been meaning to redo the labeling in my breaker panel, but it's one of those things that is so easy to just keep putting off. Good on you for labeling everything.

OtterbatHellcat
11-24-2018, 23:03
Yes, all the aux lighting is LED and the switches are rated at 20 amps each so instead of having to relay eight separate loads, I'll probably dual relay four switches each and let the switch manage the load which will be pretty insignificant anyways.

sucks a little more when you're doing it right.

And that is what I was getting to about wiring in general. All of it is kind of a pain in the ass to begin with, but if you take the time to properly route, grommet, support, crimp, seal, foresight with extra, and seal some more....etc, etc.

If I do that, it would be wise to get a higher output alternator.

I worked part time at UPS overnights during my freshman year of college back in the ‘80s. Really good money at the time, I wanna say $15/hr back when minimum wage was $3.35. I loaded tractor trailers for 5 hours a night. It was fast, jamming work and the shifts flew by. Slept like a baby after my shift. Probably explains (partly) why my grades plummeted, and the next year I was in the Marines instead of college. I really liked the work for some reason. My wife just started a seasonal overnight warehouse job at Amazon, and similar to UPS, it’s quick physical work that is ultimately kinda fun. If my aging carcass would stand up to that sort of work, I’d be tempted to do it again. I’ve heard bad things about the way HD treats employees, but it’s probably not a tough job to walk away from if you didn’t like it.

What you planning to put Elite on?

I'm getting close to the point where I don't think I really need more guns. It really helps that I can't fit everything in my tiny locker anymore anyway. Plus, I've never had any nice/usable accessories, so I'll likely focus on that stuff for a while.

I have all the stuff to reload for .308, .300blk, and .223, but just haven't jumped in yet. I really need to do that as I'd really like to up my rifle game in the very near future.

I'm putting it onto my Savage Axis .308, .300 blk pistol, and I've got a few .223 ARs that I'd like to start shooting as well.

Since we haven't submitted for this exact can yet, I'm going to see what my options are for getting the newest version, which is the QD version. I was being obstinate about having a serviceable can, but now that I've had a few days to actually do some research and familiarize myself with what I'm getting into, I'd prefer the new QD version. The new versions of this can are non-serviceable, kind of. The directions for cleaning are to soak for 24-48 hours, then just shoot all the gunk out. Since it is a flow through design, everything just blows out the front.

Check out this video.

Now that I've watched a bunch of videos, I'm interested to see how this can runs on my AR rifles. I've never shot a suppressed AR so I have no comparison for blow back experience, but I'm eager to check it out. I wonder why that mini costs so much. I bet it's cheaper through dealers.

Now that I've watched a bunch of videos, I'm interested to see how this can runs on my AR rifles. I've never shot a suppressed AR so I have no comparison for blow back experience, but I'm eager to check it out. I wonder why that mini costs so much. I bet it's cheaper through dealers.

You'll get a moderate amount of blow back, there's vids out there showing how to minimize it. You definitely appreciate good eye protection after a few mags, if not sooner.

I've seen zero references to blow back with this style can. I've seen some stuff about it not being as quiet as others though. The more I read, the more I learn about all the changes that have been made and even more strongly want the newest one.

Looked at the tracking number (which I had not received to track). No signature was required, or at least if it was the glorious USPS didn't attempt one.

The hitch is ready for welding and probably get that done tomorrow sometime. Ground, but airborne powder coat tastes unpleasant for certain. I can say that Curt hitch products are powder coated well, I had to work at getting it off.

I thought about painting the whole thing when I'm finished with it, but I think I'll wait to get the bumper back and see how well they did it. If they did a great job on the bumper, I'll probably just send the hitch and the custom nerf bars (next project) out to them and get 'em done proper.

NP, I just grab one of the other new switches I picked up and it no worky (in the same 3-way config), WTF?

Turns out the new and old switches work different in 3/4/5-way setups. Now it seems I let the smoke out of a new switch using it the same as the old. Relay switches internally but nothing out the load or traveler terminals. Fawk...

Screw this, I rewired that 3-way back to a standard traveler setup and put manual switches back in. I'll figure it out later.

(turns out that with the old model switch, while I had to re-wire both ends and use neutral on the load end as the common to make it work, the new switch is more like a standard 3-way that just uses the same line-common to load-common remote, traveler and just picks up a neutral from the neutral tie at the line side switch to energize the smarts.
