What is your opinion on the Walther p22 .22lr pistol?

I've heard it's very reliable with the right ammo, wonderful as a suppressor host, very ergonomic for the ladies or folks with smaller hands, and decently accurate out of the box. Plus, it's not as expensive as some others.

Trying to decide on a .22lr "trainer" pistol.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Bear

It's everything you said there, bigbear.

I don't own one but a friend does. I do want one.

As for "trainer" pistol . . . I like introducing people to handguns with my 9 shot Taurus 22LR revolver. The training technique it's best at is loading 3 or 4 rounds randomly and watching for flinching. I can usually train a lot of flinch out of them that way. They can easily see the flinching for themselves too.

I own a P22, but the sig Mosquito is pretty cool too. I haven't shot the sig, but have heard great things.

The P22 I had was a great gun. It will do everything you need it to do.

I've shot one before. It was okay it didn't like cheap ammo. I'd like to get a .22 revolver, so I like the idea of a cheap Taurus. A revolver will never fail unless it is broke. I'd like a Smith but they are too much. Although if I found a P22 at the right price i'd get it. Or a MKII

Like mine, the safety would fall down while firing then tighten it up and its GTG. I feed mine the plated .22 ammo the lead round nose(un-plated) would leave chunks of lead and gum it up and I would have to take a bore brush to it. Wish the mags where cheaper and you could get a mag like the Kel-tec PMR-30 to cut down on reloading time

I bought two of them when they first came out, both went back to the factory multiple times. After my experiences with them and with customer service, I'd never buy another New Walther or S&W (of course, this was about 10 years ago now and I've kept my promise ... almost... I did buy a 340pd).

We have one, its my GF's pistol since she has smaller hands. I can shoot with it just fine though and i have very large hands (I usually wear XL or larger gloves). I have only used winchester or remington basic brick ammo in it and never had a problem even after a long day at the range. Mags are expensive, but you can fine good sales on them for cheap from like cabelas or cheaperthandirt.com. it is very acurate right out of the box, she was able to get very tight groupings, not on target but tight groupings (she is very new to shooting). i think it is worth getting. i think basspro has it fro like $325 last i saw, plus you get points :)

I don't like it- it doesn't feel right in my size large hand. However- I have a combat vet friend who loves his and shoots rabbits with it on a regular basis.

Love mine, kids really like shooting it too. Feed it plated ammo. Lead ammo tends to cause issues.

I run super cheap Walmart ammo through mine. No problems.

it is my primary trainer for CCW classes. suppressed or not it works fine, with the occassional dunking in the ultrasonic cleaner to make it sparkly and new looking, like a york peppermint patty

I love mine. I have the Limited with both barrels. I prefer the longer barrel though. It shoots everything except Remington's. They tend to misfire a lot.

Now go get one!

I've heard there is never a hiccup with CCI's. I will eventually go get one, but first I need a job. I just had to sell my flugelhorn this past month... So sad.... I liked that horn.
