I'm not of the mindset like some, who actually say (or claim rather), that tattoos feel good. I have five, and not one of them felt good to get. On the other hand, they aren't unbearable IMO. The more sensitive parts of your person are obviously going to hurt worse than others.

do those hurt?

Compared to some of my other ones, it really just kinda tickled. I've got ink on some of the easiest places (thick skin, lots of muscle behind it), and on 3 out of the 4 places generally considered the worst.... and I'd put that one at 3 out of 10. I wouldn't even call the feeling from getting a tattoo 'pain'... its more like mild—severe discomfort.

I don't think they feel good, per say, but the feeling is definitely addictive. My understanding is that your brain blocks out the pain with endorphins, and that those chemicals are what feels good. After the first 5 min or so, I really don't mind the feeling. Except my spine, that one just plain sucked.

Do they hurt? It all depends on a lot of things. I have between 175 & 200 hours of work on me. A lot depends on the artist and if they are heavy or soft handed. Where the tattoo is.at on the body. And if you can.relax and find a happy lil place in your mind.
I have had some tickle and have had some where I wanted to puke. And the more work.you get the less your body gives off endorfines [sp]

On a scale of 1 to 10, ten being the most painful, how would you rate the pain of a tattoo on the bottom of your foot?

20eyes
05-11-2011, 23:43
Top of.my foot was a 6.5 i would say. And I don't think the bottom of your foot would hold in very well. It's kinda weird skin.

I don't have any on my feet, but I have sleeves. I can tell you the most painful place I've been tattooed is on the inside of my wrist. Way worse than the elbow, etc

skinny or fat it does not make a difference. The pain if any is based on how close to nerve endings the design is. the same design could be placed on your arm and foot. seeing how there are more nerve endings in you feet than bicep you notice it more. the fingers hurt, toes not to bad. most of mine i just snoozed or told jokes. you guys need to cowgirl up and deal with it. Slam a coke or pepsi down while getting inked and you will sleep walk through it.

Yeah usually I just chew gum and watch a movie or something, chat with my tattoo artist, but when he's tattooing, he doesn't usually talk a whole lot. Yeah, especially to jock-type guys with a barbed wire arm band that doesn't even go all the way around their arm. (I have a half-back piece which will wrap around my ribcage, shoulder done too, inside right bicep, and right thigh.) It's a start. I just need the funds and time to continue filling up my right side.

Joe, I got my first one just 30 years before you, 1955 in Fort Riley, KS (actually Junction City, KS). Maybe you were still in diapers or at least training pants way back that long ago... Back in those days, the artist would wipe your arm with a big old sponge soaked in nasty looking water from a porcelain basin - the same bloody water just used on the guy before you. Don't really want to do that now days. I'll have to get a picture of the last one that I had done at age 72. Hey it's never too late and I do not have to be concerned about some dip shit (is that one word or two?) employer being critical of my ink.[Beer]

the old sponge and bucket era. my early ones were done that way. the artist had the tubes and needles laid out in a rack soaking in some form of lysol disinfectant (if any at all) shaved your body part with a straight razor and used a sponge or paper towel to wipe the area.

Do it like that old rockwell painting. The sailor has a list of names on his arm. All of them have a line through them, yet you still see a new name added.

SO.........under

Survivor
do this....... +5

Something simple to convey your life without cluttering up the original design. More is Less.
I would also add some more shading / gray wash to the darker areas of the NO symbol. This will pump some new life into it and bring the design together with out going overboard.
Then every 5 years another +5

Not at all buddy....

Okay prices are like this, I charge $100 an hour. If its something that Im gonna be on for a couple sessions, I throw in some extra hours just to help my friends out. ESPECIALLY if its a piece that Im into.

Shop min. is $50, anything above that is usually $80-100 if its somethin I can knock out pretty quick.

That spartan skull I knocked out in a day, I think it was around 7 hours, I charged him around 4, so I gave him 3 hours on me. He tipped REALLY well.

ALWAYS tip your artist! They get to actually keep their tips and it makes them feel like you appreciate the work you just got, not only that, but we remember that and youre gonna get priority over other people.

Any plans for that last bit of cover up on the wheel gun?
I don't have pics but I'm fully sleeved on both arms.

Most painful hands down was my stomach and hip, and my throat. It was pretty brutal.

I used to be able to sit for that long, nowadays, Im over it after about an hour. Lol Its alot different when you can get them anytime for free and around it everyday.

So I took this pic for one reason.....to see what I would look like with no tattoos. I guess its alot funnier if you actually seen me all the time.

I'm at 4 years in a few days and have been trying to think about what I may or may not do.

When you get cancer (sometimes) they give you FREE tattoos. They aren't exciting.
Actually, they are little dots. One idea I had was incorporating one of them and a scar I have left into something.

The other was sort of like this but with the dates of my milestones along the way up to 5.

But I don't want to do chit until I hit 5, lest I jinx myself.

You have 4 years, show it off. Every day is a milestone for someone.

I talked to him in his shop back in september or so and he said that he was headed back to Florida. I havent heard much from him since then. he hooked me up on this one, I gave him a couple loaded mags and about 100$ and he did it on the spot.

Do it like a zippy car logo Ford had a V intertwined with an 8 something like CF5 . Call my nephew and talk to him. Landmark tattoo in denver caddy corner to waxtrax. ask for Nikolas or Nik , what ever name he goes by.

^ nice, I like the reference to the III% ers. At least that is what I think you are referencing.
Correct.

That's badass. Subtle, Colorado themed. I'm a fan.
Thanks! It's one of my favorite pieces so far.

Nice to see you still around!
You too man. Been really busy lately, haven't had much time to play around online.

Jeffrey, Good going with your four + years as a survivor. Last month I hit 32 years. Positive thinking works wonders and now YOU will have to plan a nice tat for that 5 year milestone and the 5 year mark calls for big celebration - I know!

Bob, I think 32 years deserves a full back piece! Everybody always asks, "What will you do when you're old and your skin doesn't look the same?" I always, say, "I'll keep going and be a badass Grandpa."

Lex_Luthor. - great response you have there. I have a small tat that I got in Fort Riley, KS almost 59 years ago. Although the old carcas had repositioned somewhat, the tat still does not droop. Yeah, I am a badass GREAT Grampa now. [blaster]

Really nice, Mike! There was a guy at California Tattoos outside of Gate 7 at Keesler AFB that specialized in tats with koi and various water styles. There was a name for the style, but I can't remember it. There's just something about koi and water tattoos.... really nice. :)

I miss ocean and water creatures... had a lil fish pond back home (Guam) my Grandparents built and the tatt(s) remind me of it a little...

Thank you! All I know with the style is it's Japanese, but there are stories from different countries with koi's... and how they are positioned. Koi face down means humbled... Koi face up means still trying to achieve goal(s).... in China... there is a story of a Koi that swam up this hardcore river... finally making it all the way upstream it turned to a golden dragon. So many things to go with it... which explains why I chose to have two koi's... with enough $$$$ I'd probably do a half body with the Chinese story.

I was getting charged by the hour, but there were a lot a lot of free hours given. Really cool guy! A set goal for the day... and he won't stop till that goal was done.
1 day we did a straight 5 or 6 hour session (which I paid for a 3 hour session) with just 2 10 min breaks (I needed to pee, lol!).
I would say... if you build a pretty good bond with your Tattoo artist... I think they'll take care of you.

I knew there were correlations between koi and dragons, but I had no idea that the position of the koi meant specific things. That's awesome!
How old is this particular tattoo? Have you noticed much fading, or do you put sunblock on it every day?

No special treatment. So far it's holding up without the special treatment. It's going on 2 years now.

LMFAO! That dude was a little....

I was 14 when I did my own and of course had to get it re done. The chick that was sitting in the seat next to me was crying harder than I have ever seen a person cry, naturally I laughed, but this one takes the cake!
