Just caught this on the channel 9 news. They are putting the blame on some shooters in the forest. Shell casings or tracer rounds. Others are saying natural. I am sure it will affect us some how.

what's with all the tracers?
i have more than one round of ammo (think ammo fort, ammo furniture) and I certainly don't have any tracers in the house.
gimme a fucking break thats it's tracers.
i've never even seen anyone shoot tracers (except at machine gun shoots)

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. People love shinny things, most don't realize how fast a tracer can start a fire.
I hope its not a shooter.

Agreed, I am just hoping that is not a shooter's fault and that some dumb ass wasn't using tracers in dry land, because I have actually never seen a civilian shoot a tracer round (not saying that it couldn't happen).

I thought the thread was about tracers not a Democrat convention [ROFL1]

Ahhh I hope it wasn't a shooter. Because if so, laws will prevent me from shooting for free in the National Forests because of a few idiots. Scary thing is... I can totally see a group of guys thinking it will be "uber pwns" to shoot tracers..
confirmed stupidity

They sell tracer and incendiary rounds at the gun shows for about a buck a round. Any idiot knows not to shoot them off during the dry season, just like no fireworks. Stupidity is no excuse. You start a fire due to negligence that is a felony arson charge.

Sorry Twitchy, I did not know they were the same place. Feel free to delete the thread.

You would be surprised at the amount of people that don't know that, even veterans that have shot it a lot. They don't equate that dot of light to be the miniature flare that it actually is. It won't always start a fire if there isn't anything to burn or if it isn't dry enough. Ignorance isn't an excuse though, just an explanation.

No problem palepainter, I was just teasin ya about posting the same thing I did at the same time which I thought was funny. Kind answering the phone just before it rings. No need to delete, both threads have taken their own paths anyway.

My thoughts exactly and I would have also saved them for a night shoot for their "full effect".

There have been many cases of Arson up and down CO 285 in recent weeks. Unlikely they are all caused by shell casings. There are lots of wacko shooters, but more likely this is some nut case with a pack of matches!
Without a doubt tracers can start a fire, dont ask me how I know...[Peep]

I can see it in the news "man found with backpack full of matches.". With all the cigarettes etc thrown out of cars and people not putting out campfires correctly, shotgun ammo would be the last thing I would blame
its all the damn california fuckers moving here. they had massive fires out there all the time, and they are trying to burn our state down now.

I definitely know as well how tracers can start fires, my infantry unit nearly burnt down the southeast on a number of occasions, and I am still hoping that this was not the cause of the fire. I still think, along with some of you, with all the people not putting out camp fires correctly, and throwing lit cigarettes out the window, etc there are more likely causes. I think the tracer scenario could happen but I am going to stay in denial right now.
"...throwing lit cigarettes out the window,..."
Drivin' up 285 not long ago, maybe early last month, (commuting) and I'm following a piece-o-poop Ford Ranger, ragged looking shit-machine with a "newer looking" sticker on the rusted bumper denoting a "member of a volunteer fire service," forget which one, and a fucking butt comes flyin' out the window. Some meth-face lookin' wretched chic drivin', doubt it was the owner (I hope) but...volunteer fire-fighter sticker and a fucking lit cigarette gets thrown out the window.
Ironic ignorance. Yeah...as a resident of the area I made my "opinion known" via hand gestures but...I doubt that dumb-fuck had any clue what I was ranting about.

I just don't get why people don't think. I get annoyed because I camp and always have a fire, and when I leave the fire pit is a huge soupy mess because I don't want to start a fire...but these people make it so we aren't allowed to have fires...and I usually camp in the Tarryall Mountains and Kenosha Pass
What worries me is that this is only May, and we're already over 50 front range wildfires. The forest management folks are already comparing it to 2002 (Hayman fire), but the difference is that there are thousands of acres more beetle kill, all very dry. Add to that 100 years of crappy forest management that allowed fuel to build up, and we have a recipe for fires that could make Hayman look like a flashbulb....

You can buy tracers about anywhere...even Sportsmans Warehouse carries 5.56 tracer ammo. Shooting tracers doesn't make you a nut job. I may be the only one but I see no issue with them. That said...I'd only consider using them in the winter when the ground is already covered with a good layer of snow . Guess common sense isn't so common...

How about the undocumented (read illegal) aliens. I have seen portable meth labs set up just off FS56, manned by illegals and they don't much give a damn about OUR forests. Notice there are never any fires in Mexico.

Mexico has some of the most interesting forests in the world! The country possesses 1.3 percent of the world's total forest resource, with one-quarter of Mexico's total land area classified as forest lands, according to the World Forestry Institute. The country boasts the highest number of pine and oak species in the world.
You need to get out more and the Denver slums do not qualify. While you aer at it burn your green card, the last laugh is always best!

Not exactly sure how to respond to that, feeling as if I was just insulated for making a joke. So I wont.[Dunno]

That is a sensitive subject, as I have been shot at by the drug dealers back there, an AK47, 15 rounds in the Pike Natl Forest , I shot back with my 357 but was outnumbered and out gunned. The illegals start these fires to drive out the honest people!
No insult intended or taken, lol
America must not ignore the threat gathering against us. Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.

I am an avid camper in the area as well as two other close friends of mine. I have never seen anything like that up there so do you mind giving a lat/long on where you saw them and the time of year?
Maybe we could all start keeping track of this to better pass to the parks service but more importantly for everyone's safety.
What do you all think?
