What light are you guys putting on your AR's? I'm not one to dress up my AR all that much (sort of a purist) but think I would like to make it a bit more tactiCOOL and put a light on there. That damn mag light duct taped to the barrel is getting a bit front heavy :).

I had an old Streamlight M6 in the safe that I put on my carbine. Picked up a pressure switch for it and it was good to go. I think I picked it up on Amazon at a good price years ago. [Beer]

I run a simple Surefire 6P or G2 in a 1" weaver scope ring and just push the tail cap. We ran this setup in Bn mostly as pressure pads are unreliable, get snagged on gear, and don't hold up to prolonged moistire that well. Simple Surefire costs $30-60, scope mount is $5 or less.

I'm not going to be a douche here, but I am going to make a couple comments. As I am a purist when it comes to my guns as well, mainly because I actually use mine for work and competition. For a light, I would pick something small but at least 100 lumens. the capability to easily turn it on and off is also a necessity.

pressure switches are highly reliable and work great if mounted properly, I have one on all my rigs since you never know what situation will dictate how you have to activate the light on your gun.

I run an M951 and a converted Z2 with a pressure switch, by far the cheaper route.

I have tailcaps and switches if you are looking to go the cheap route, and they are half price.

If you want a lesson on how to actually use your weapon light properly, i'm out shooting at least twice a week.

The tactiCool aspect : I have a light on my home D guns, the pistol and the ar. If you have a valid reason to put one on the gun, do so- if you don't, then you prob will never use it, so save your money and get something that improves your ability to operate the gun efficiently, such as a better trigger, bolt catch lever, AFG, or what not.

Just my 2 cents - but who am I to say whats practical or not :)

NukeRJ, I'm not sure why you thought you might be being a douche, I think that was a good answer and I appreciate the input. I just don't really put much stuff on my weapons, I have a laser on my Glock and that's about it but of all the options out there I figure a light is probably a decent idea. Of course I don't go busting down doors so the need for anything other than ammo is diminished!

Your shooting style might also dictate what type of light to go with. See what feels best and where a pressure switch should go or where you could reach a tail cap switch style light. Also remember if you want to go with a pressure switch put it somewhere where it's not going to accidentally turn on but is easy to activate when needed. I run a dedicated weapon light M3X with a pressure switch on the top where i can reach my thumb over and press it.

I just picked up a Streamlight M3 from another forum member, and I love it so far. Nice thing is, it mounts to a Picatinny rail, so I can mount it on my SIG if I want to, or put it on the rails on my MOE handguards. I like that flexibility.

I run a surefire g2 led w/ a vtac light mount. Its a good combo with quality and budget in mind.

Surefire G2L in an IWC (made in Colorado) MOE hand-guard mount. The upper rear curve of the base is also a good thumb index if you shoot with your support hand high and forward for better control. The tail-cap switch is high enough to reach when shooting 'wrong-handed' and the bezel is close enough to the muzzle to put the barrel shadow out of the target area.

I am not a 'door-kicker' - 80 lumens is more than adequate for home defense and there are no exposed wires to snag and break or pressure switches to fall off.
