Maytag repair man, anyone?

My wifes Maytag washer just crapped out and I cant afford a new one [Rant1] So it filled with water but wont spin, the "on" light is on, I tried changing to different settings etc but no luck, any ideas?

Maybe the lid switch? The motor is not running.

Check google for model and that behavior. My Kenmore did the same thing (wouldn't agitate or spin) and it was a $5 part that I replaced myself. Some piece that when worn left a tiny little pile of plastic shavings on the floor. $5 part and the whole damn thing stopped working.

head over to Ricks Appliance part on 2nd st just off business 85 in greality. Give them the make, model, serial # and more than likely they will have or get the part you need to fix it. They actually will answer questions. Any appliance issue we have had i run over there and within 2-3 days they have the part i need if it's not in stock.

Definitley, I have gotten drier parts from them before. I guess I am going to have to tear it apart and test the switch, thats the direction I am leaning?

Motor would run, just wouldn't spin / agitate. The part went between the motor and the main drum. Can you actuate the switch at all to test it (pop the top and put the wires together, etc)?

Sounds like a switch went bad. If it was a motor you would hear it humming most likely, unless the windings went bad.

There are also a timing sequencer in those as well that control how long each cycle runs and that could be bad as well.

Could be the main control switch crapped out, it happens. Washers and dryers are surprisingly easy to work on, and there's several appliance parts houses in the metro area. Get the make & model number, & serial number, and get on the phone.

There is an appliance forum somewhere I found through google, make and model, and some other posts told me what was wrong with our dryer, $20 in parts and my time to clean it all up - runs like new.

Jensens Appliance at Kipling and 44th in Wheatridge had the parts for mine.

As stated above, most are easy to work on and many are the same except for the name tag on the front.

Whirlpool makes most of them anymore. They bought up everyone else.

So the lid check switch had no continuity so I knew it was bad but the lid switch itself had 6 ohms and its supposed to be zero from what I found? May order one just to be safe but luckily a local shop had the check switch in stock! She purrs like a kitten now. At least the wife is quite now [Beer]
