Oh Yes! I'll probably be running the video camera, and won't shoot at the bottles, but anyone who thinks it'd be fun to kill 20 or so 2ltr bottles of coke as quickly as possible should feel free. If anyone can get one before Karl gets them all.

For drinking, I'm bringing some tea, Mountain Dew and Pepsi. Probably some Aquafina too since it's likely to be hot outside. Anyone want something in addition just say so, since the last thread disappeared. I have a large MDX ice barrel to kill. It'd be cool to see how big a hole your .50 makes in it. I also have a large box to put the pieces of it into, so cleanup isn't a problem if it gets blown to bits.

I ordered and paid for my AK on Friday so it should be here by then.

I got this quote from a guy on silencertests.com who was recomending rifle targets.

Try Spring steel. The kind used in leaf springs in pick up trucks or better yet dump trucks or school busses. I found a place that specializes in fixing the suspension on heavy trucks and they let me have a bunch of their scrap.

I have shot 30.06 at it and it does not scratch the metal. 223 leaves a very small crater maybe a few thousandths deep. Unfortunately, it can not be welded but for hillbilly wind chimes it would work great.

Hillbilly wind chimes refer to steel targets hanging from chains. I would like to give it a try, does anyone have some old leaf springs?

2ndChildhood
07-03-2006, 22:33
Dang MP5, that sounds real good. I know several decent junkyards where they will get you just about anything you want.

Can't be welded? I'd have to ask a welder about that but that doesn't sound right.

Now, about the safety of shooting metal targets... does one just do this at a good distance so ricochet/splatter doesn't get you? What are the do's & don'ts of shooting 223 or 9 at metal targets?

I would not shoot it with .223 up close. Other than that I dont seen how it is any diffrent from shooting at a steel match.

At the last south shoot some guy was talking about his steel targets not holding up to .223.

I am not looking to weld it, I would be looking at a set up like this, but with smaller vertical targets.

Hey guys,
I really feel bad about Bob. I purchased one of his revolvers and felt bad that he was selling off his collection to pay his medical bills. Really a nice guy and a credit to our club.

I jumped on to see if you were going to have a shoot tomorrow (You know - 2nd Saturday of the month - well not this month - or that month....) Anyway, I have tomorrow free and was hoping to go on a shoot. Cannot make the 15th - have an off-road swap meet in Golden.

Maybe next month - the 2nd Saturday. right??

I wonder if access is going to be a problem. I was just flipping through the channels and came across pictures of Douglas County on the weather channel. Apparently highway 67 along the river is washed out between Deckers and Westcreek.

Governor issues order for emergency assistance (http://www.9news.com/acm_news.aspx?OSGNAME=KUSA&IKOBJECTID=4bea2d09-0abe-421a-0041-81a41299320a&TEMPLATEID=0c76dce6-ac1f-02d8-0047-c589c01ca7bf)

Marlin
07-09-2006, 13:04
The long way {for those of us on the north side} from WP is all asphalt, so that would not be a problem. My concern would be at the site itself. in other words accessibilty, I don't think that the forest gnomes would like it too much if We tore up the road to much.

Gman
07-09-2006, 13:41
The asphalt is washed out along a 4 mile stretch. They're now saying it may take at least a month to repair the damage.

Check out the video: http://www.9news.com/includes/buildasx.aspx?fn=http://wm.kusa.gannett.edgestreams.net/news/1152402769490-07-08-06-Deckers-5p.wmv&sp=http://wm.kusa.gannett.edgestreams.net/ads/sales/pre-stream/elite-may06.wmv

Well that really sucks that takes me out I can't make it. It is only 60 miles from my house to the shoot spot and going to the springs then up through Woodland Park is over 100. I have way too much to do next weekend I can't spend all day Saturday on the shoot.

I have my 20 year high school reunion and have a new deck being put up. They hit almost every damn sprinkler line they could have drilling the caissons so I have to repair that.

I was just going to come for a short bit and head home but with the longer route there is no way I can do it.

Sorry guys will catch up with you all next time.

KarlPMann
07-11-2006, 20:47
No problems here. I've spoke to forest service officials on numerous occasions about where we shoot and what we de. They have NO issues with our group. And being seen doing occasional cleanups has only helped. Speaking of which, are you guys up to it this time? This area is pretty clean as a rule, but it wouldn't hurt to spiff it up a little a few times a year. Also, are we gonna grill food, etc.? We better make food and beverage plans ASAP! Nah, too long from FC. I'm going to 7 & 72 on Sunday though.

The material is 2 1/2 inches wide, thickness varies from roughly 3/16 at the tips to maybe 3/8 at the middle.
There are 5 pieces I'm not going to use varying in length from 36 to 48 inches.
The stuff dulled my "the torch" sawzall blade instantly, so I'm using an angle grinder to cut it, I imagine a cutting torch would work nicely.

I had lot's of fun. For the next 3 days though, my nick is lobsterclaw. Apparently my sunscreen wasn't as strong as Karl's

Thanks everybody for everything! Good guns, food and people.

The one problem I have is my kid's camcorder. He doesn't have his software cd, so it may take me a couple of days to find a buddy who has the sony camera software so I can get it on the puter to upload it. It looks great on the little 2 inch lcd screen though. [postal]

I'll have to find some personal shade for these summer shoots. Sorry I had to run so soon, but I had another obligation. Seeing as this was a shoot in the memory of Bob, I had to be there.

It's not available. I went there first. They have updates you can get, but no software. Sony sucks like that. They are real sorry it wasn't included in the box, but now it has to be purchased at $69.99.

any decent software should capture it from a vid camera, i have had a 3 camcorders and have yet to use the software that comes with the cameras, i use power director pro software. If you need anything it will be just the drivers for the camera which are free download.
Try to use movie maker to capture the video

That's my first problem. Trying to download the driver. Sony doesn't have them on their website to download. they are all part of "updates" and without the software installed, it won't work. But their customer service saidthey'll sell me it for $69.99. I just have to find someone with the software, I guess.

Send me the file and I can host it too. That way everyone can have a copy. Karl.

Was on vacation last week, but when I got back I borrowed the sony software from my sis and from my mom. Both damn copies have the drivers for the dvd handycams, and not the digital 8. I have 2 bros left to ask, then I'll ask buddies from work. I keep checking eBay also for a copy, but the only copy I found went for 58 bucks. Sony is the cheapest damn POS company. Every other time I've needed drivers for things, I've been able to find them online.
