Totally off the wall, but I was thinking about stockpiling a bit more food away than the DHS recommended 3 day supply, but was looking out my front window at about 20 prairie dogs. I know that those varmints carry the bubonic plague, so my question is if they are cooked thoroughly are they good and safe to eat in a SHTF situation?

Well, it did do the trick for the Lewis and Clark expedition.
I thought L&C survived on beaver?
I would think most any animal would be safe to eat if boiled long enough. taste like crap though in most cases.
plague is carried by the fleas though so even going into the area & connecting the carcass would be "dangerous"
IMO if it comes down to eating prarie dogs to stay alive, plague is probably the least of your worries.

Very true, Merl.
I just thought there might be some .223 varminter-nut out there who has had the beach-balls to actually try it.

I thought L&C survived on beaver?
I thought there were no women on the trip?
I would hope the prairie dogs would be your last resort.

Sacagawea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacagawea)I just knew someone would jump in and make such a comment, even though I took great pains to reduce the innuendo. [poke]
