Realistic to get those buggers with a .22LR or would I be better off with a .223?

Uhh yeah a .22lr will kill them just fine with one shot.

I have got them both out of a 16" barreled AR 22lr Upper and a 4" 22lr. Pistol.

My son hunts with his TEC-22T and silencer (he thinks it's his  ) and his Remington 22 rifle (that is his). He shoots out to 100yds. with the pistol, but mostly out to about 50yds. He hunts out to 200yds. with the rifle (on a good day  ). Karl.

Don't try to convince my first 10/22 that it won't kill a prairie dog. It's slay literally thousands of them since I brought it home in the spring of '78.

Here is proof of a 22lr killing a dog. This one was out of my 4" pistol.

I have some nice pictures of PDs hit witha 223. They don't even look similar....

I could post them, but they are graphic and give the antis visual proof of how "cruel" hunters are if they ever found them.

Has anyone tried a 17M2 on PDs? Problem with 22LR is that it has a trajectory like the McDonalds arches. Good thing about 22LR is noise is kept down. Where I shoot them, noise with the 223 is a problem. I am thuinking of buying a 17M2 so as to have a flatter tajectory and quieter.

it's kinda like throwing a 5 pound roll of hamburger into the air

Not quite sure what caliber they're using, but this should back up the "5 pounds of hamburger" comment nicely.

I shot a whole bunch today with my 17hmr and my 204 Ruger. I got a few of them 3-4 feet into the air with the 204. Also a lot of "Red Mist of Death." Farthest shot today was 165 yards with the 17, 275 with the 204.

Ahhhh they're so cute as they walk around, stand up and look around, and then they go flippin like an acrobat.

I went shooting PDs today with a 22LR.

It doesn;t work too well. I hit one around 125 yards. He ran around about 10-15 yards before he dropped dead. Another one, I hit and he dropped but flopped around a little bit before he died. Range estimation is critical for shooting them with a 22LR.

Here is a pic of a 250 yard hit from an AR using 55gr Vmax bullets. He didn't move once hit. Be aware. This is a GRAPHIC picture. Click at your own peril. Then compare to the 22 hit shown above.

223 is better if you can use it.

I have shot them with a 17HMR, works great out to about 150yards or so.
Then the wind moves that bullet around a lot.

For longer shots I like the 243WSSM, they don't go anywhere after that!
