Shootist Pistol Range
2980 S Galapago
Englewood, CO 80110 - 1448
(sante fe and dartmouth, east on dartmouth, first left, on the right)
(303) 781-3382
Ladies night is tuesday, half price.
12 (?) Lanes. Pistols and .22lr rifles only. Extra charge for big guns like 44mag and the like. No wolf ammo allowed.
They're open until 9pm some nights.
The rangemaster is a hypocrit (sp?) Everyone except him has to wear saftey glasses apparently. The ventilation is ok at best. The lighting is poor, or good depending on how far you set your target. The range is loud however, i've been to many indoor ranges and i'm gonna double up with earplugs/muffs next time i go. If you buy their ammo to get cheaper lane rates, it's over priced. $9.50 for 50 9mm.
Their shop does have a decent selection for a range/shop. Fair ammount of good deals on used guns, good holster selection.

Been there once when I qualified for the "Bail Enforcement" course. Expensive, but compared to the indoor range in the SPrings, I guess it's OK. (NOTE: Colorado Springs currently has NO indoor range). Karl.

I've been there several times. I always get weird looks from the guys that work there. Never had any problems though.
Rules are pretty lax and the Range officers leave pretty much everyone alone.
Prices seemed kinda high on ammo.
Somewhat decent selection of rental guns.
I've never had an issue with noise being too loud wearing only muffs.
It's located kind of out of the way a block east of santa fe.
All in all not a bad place, IMHO, but I wish there were more indoor ranges around to provide options.
I have been there a few times. The last time I went there, as I was leaving the range babysitter admonished me for spending too much time shooting given that I didn't purchase any overpriced ammo from them. I wrote the owner a letter explaining why I would not return if he did not remedy the situation, I never heard back from him, so I haven't returned.
I stopped by here today. Not a bad place really. People were very friendly and I probably could have spent the day chatting with them and the other shooters as they came and went. Yeah I was there for a while.
5 lanes, air was breathable and light was fine for me.
Prices are not bad. $16 range fee UNLESS you buy a box of their ammo then its $11. So you can get a box of 45ACP for about $8. Yearly memberships start on the 1st of the year for $100. $50 now. Memeber shoot for $10 I believe it was. Plus they will toss in a couple of free guest passes.
It seems like a pretty decent place. Especially when you consider the (limited) alternatives.

I bought my XD9 from them last year. Been shooting there since. The 9mm 50-round boxes I bought from them were only $7.75 apiece. I buy one box of ammo from them to get the discounted range fee, then use the Wal*Mart WWB ammo that I bring in. Seems to work well.
I would think it is the best deal around, compared to The Silver Bullet in Wheat Ridge.
The ladies behind the counter were friendly and liked to talk. Didn't mind me walking around the store for a bit after I was done shooting. Overall, I think it is a good combination of nice people and reasonable prices that will keep me going back.

I like it. I can set up multiple IPSA targets in hostage poses and draw from holster (and rapid fire) without being looked at as freaky. The fact that they treat you as an adult makes the 16.00 all worthwhile to me as well. The ventilation has been upgraded and as for low light conditions, I say the more the better, it tests you under adverse conditions.

The people there are nice, but it is a bit pricey. They recycle their brass, so they are picky about what ammo they allow (as previosuly mentioned, no Wolf). Also, they wouldn't let my buddy shoot .357, and he had to buy .38 from them. Not nearly as fun to shoot....

They don't allow Wolf because the rounds are known to bounce back.
Next time you're there, look at the clock on the wall above the range office, it has a hole in it cause of a Wolf round.

sorry for bringing this thread up from the dead.
Does anyone have experience with their trade-in program? If any?

Thread Resurrection!!
I had never been to this range before yesterday and stopped in to try out some of my new toys. The folks behind the counter were very nice and I got onto the range quick. The range was clean (as it can be), the range officers seemed pretty lax. Didn't mind the double tap or rapid fire. When I was finished up and went upstairs to pay the counterpeople were once again very friendly and stayed and talked a while with one of the guys. I will definitely be going back there to shoot many more times as it is closer to me than anything else (until prarie arms gets their range up), and it was a great experience.
It's the closest range to me and they don't have anybody breathing down your neck. Both the range and sales staff have been friendly and not pushy to me.
And they allow full auto. "As long as you can keep it off the walls and ceiling I don't care," was what they told me when I asked.
I was in there the other day (lack of time so couldn't go to the private range). I was on lane 1 (far right lane) and got hit with shrapnel 4-5 times!!! Not sure if it was an idiot/bad shot hitting the "frame" for hanging targets or what. Thank God for eye protection! [Rant1]

There's one young guy there who is very helpful and nice. The owner is a bit of a prick and his wife is pretty rude and stupid.
That being said, I've purchased 3 guns from them in the past year because they have the only good prices around. I've only purchased them from previously mentioned guy. I ordered a CZ through him and when it came in, I had to deal with the owner and his wife.
I told the lady that I was there to pick up a gun, my name, etc. She went and got it out of the safe and put it on the desk. Then some old, wannabe military guy stormed in and was very pushy in wanting the gun that he ordered. So she completely left me out to dry and started dealing with him. He took for-fucking-ever to fill out his BATFE form on their laptop while I sat there, waiting. When he finally finished it was my turn again. There was a very long line that night, and the dude had somehow spelled his own name wrong. He made a big fuss and called his wife while at the counter and very loudly complained how he was going to be late for dinner. Meanwhile my application had been processed and still I was waiting while she tended to this jerk. Eventually he left after they processed his shit again and FINALLY could finish with me.
They cashed me out and everything, and I had previously mentioned I wanted to use my range time then and there, and the wife said since I already paid and had to wait so long I could have a reasonable number of targets and shoot for free.
I went and shot, used 5 $0.50 targets and brought my ticket up. The owner took the ticket, saw the number of targets, and hemmed and hawwed about my $2.50 in targets (after spending $600 on a gun) until he rolled his eyes and said fine.
I hadn't been in there since (about 6 months ago) until a friend wanted to shoot there, afterwards they had a M&P9 with threaded barrel for a good price and the nice guy was working there with none of the jerks in sight. I ended up buying the gun, regretfully, but I had a positive customer service experience and they had a better price than online.
The range is pretty meh, semi-black boogers, but the lighting is decent and the target holders work. I think Firing Line's is much better.

The people at the shootist crack me up. Nice enough now that I'm fairly regular there, but definatly kinda weird. The ventilation there is horrible but its where I shoot the most

I have not been there in the last 3 years but the few times I had been there they were decent and treated my then 12 yo very well.
They were decent enough to let me put a few rounds down a Springfield that was on consignment and even called the owner to let me speak with him.
Dark and dingy but had a good experience every time we went.

Just curious here, but what kind of gun was that? I've found their prices to be higher than pretty much everywhere but Gander Mountain. [ROFL1] They seem to charge new prices for used guns from what I've seen!
I agree about the younger guy, he seems pretty nice and knowledgeable but the others, um yeah... [Bang]

I bought a new XDm9 for $500 right when they came out. A CZ-75B SA for $525 and just got an M&P9 with threaded barrel for $590.
The M&P is about $10-20 more than on the Internet, but I could have it immediately and with transfer I'd pay about the same.
i went to the shootist for the first time for the live fire qual for my CCW class decent prices but the store smelled horrible of that raunchy used diaper smell that is unbearable to be around. the range was busy and there was some drama about people not getting the full hour ventilation is horrible. people are nice but gun safety was scary. a guy brought in a mini 14 to sell and the person behind the counter grabbed it and flashed the muzzle across our ccw class then proceeded to remove the full magazine.

Was thinking about going here to shoot, but after reading all this i'm starting to rethink that. Maybe i'll go once to try it out
Only less than great thing about The Shootist is that the ventilation could be better.
I've been going there to shoot since December. I go in the evenings on Wednesdays (usually), mind my own business, and have a perfectly fine time. The ventilation always seemed fine to me but there's also not a lot of people on the range when I go.
I do wish I could hang a tennis ball down range, though.

I go there every now and then when the weather is bad and I can't shoot outside.
No per hour fee (single fee), you can shoot your own ammo, rapid fire all you want, draw from a holster etc....... as long as you are safe, they leave you alone.
I like the place, staff is nice, affordable and they don't bother you. Ventilation is borderline and could be improved but I don't go their that often so no big deal.

Ventilation is terrible there IMO. Had a horrid taste in my mouth the entire time I was there. And you could see the smoke just hanging. Yuck.
Staff was decently friendly, but I will never use the range again after going to some much, much cleaner places like BluCore and Centennial Gun Club.
