View Full Version : I finally did it
So when I go to movies one huge pet peeve I have is people messing with their cell phones.
You're watching the film, then in front of you there's a distracting flash of light as someone checks a text.
maybe some people can ignore it, I can't. the light and motion catches my eye every time.
now, some folks when the get the phone out do it discreetly, hold it down low, check it fast, then cover it up again. that, I can handle, unless they do it repeatedly.
many times in the past I've been in films where I came very close to getting out my flashlight to shine on them, but it has just never quite happened. when I get to that point where I'm ready, and if they do it one more time it's on, and they always stop.
well tonight I finally did it.
went to see stranger tides pirate flick and about 20 min in a guy two rows up and one seat over pulls out his cell phone.
he doesn't lean down or try to cover it. he's sitting back with his head against the headrest, holding the phone up to eye level. He's close enough that if I had leaned forward I could have read his screen. so I think maybe he's checking the time or got a text and he'll read it then put it away. nope, he starts selecting icons and scrolling thru menu lists.
I'm waiting for him to put it away, then after a few seconds I remember how much I paid for my ticket to this overpriced 3D film.
Silently I take out my torch and light him up. Cell phone disappears, and fast.
I must say I was pleased at the result.
Good for you! I hate pretty much any distraction during a movie.

I usually say in a very loud voice Shut the F$%^&k up or give me money for my ticket. Hasn't failed yet.
One time as i have done in restaurants is open my phone and say in a raised voice "I would talk to you but some asshole is on their phone and i can't hear a word you are saying"

That is a great idea. I am going to start taking a flashlight into the movies when I go.
Sounds like 1st Degree Manlighting to me.

How about when some A--hole sitting behind you will start tapping his foot on the back of your seat. Maybe the flashlight thing would work on that situation too. With my luck the perp and his buddies would be waiting for me outside.

Texas movie theater makes an example (and a PSA) of a texting audience member
Those people infuriate me! The worst though is last week I went to Film On The Rocks @ Red Rocks Amphitheater- it was "The Big Lebowski" which I've seen about 300times but besides the point- people were rude and acted like they were watching the movie in the comfort of their own homes, talking and shouting the whole time. A group of young girls behind us really had no intent to watch the movie and chatted away the whole time. When my brother and I turned to ask them- politely- to pipe down they just mocked us and talked trash about us and our "Audacity" to silence them. It's still a movie and some of us are there to watch. I didn't pay $14 for people around me to socialize. What is so important that it can't wait until after the film? Why go in the first place if all you're going to do is talk?
+1 for making that dipsh*t the center of attention. I'm gonna try that sometime, let him and his buddies wait for me, I'm sure they'll like my lesson I could teach them courtesy of the US Special Forces Community.

That's the way that Film on the Rocks is, though. You either have to take it in good spirit or not go. We don't go if it's a movie we haven't seen.
Last week we tried to watch The Hangover and at the last minute a group of eight people, including two kids in the 3-6 year old range came and sat in front of us. Predictably, within ten minutes there was popcorn everywhere and the kids were jumping and shouting in the aisle, in those shoes with lights in the heels, no less.
We pretty much exclusively go in the day during the week to avoid that kind of distraction, but it's definitely getting worse.

What the hell where those young of kids doing at the Hangover? Bad parenting I guess... And I'm aware that's what FOTR is all about, but they were louder than they needed to be. I guess one of them had hearing problems and couldn't hear her friends or something. It's just rude though.

No kidding....you guys still go to theaters? I try to avoid places with other humans in them, they irritate the piss out of me.

I always just throw chewed up milk duds.
That video is funny. They kinda give that girl the middle finger ,,l, "we don't want you back you b***h."
But I'm not so sure I understand the full story. She said she was using her phone as a flashlight to find her seat, then says she got kicked out for texting... which was it?
