One of my troops was previously stationed in California, where he had to have some extensive engine work done on his car. Now, I don't know all of the issues yet, but it seems that it is going to cost him a considerable amount to have the car repaired. The mechanic in CA agreed to replace the parts, but refuses to pay for the labor to make the repairs. Apparently, this is going to be a few thousand dollars, and he's a young, married E-5 with kids.

So, I thought I'd put out a request if there are any attorneys on here that might be able to help. If you might be able to help, feel free to shoot me an email.

legaleagle (sp?) is one I believe, But I hear he is expensive...
Maybe he has a "military Discount"

most of the time in cases like this when they get a letter from a lawyer they start making concessions.

Im taking it, that he is here now, and there is a problem with the work that was done in cali? I make no claims to being a legal expert, just an automotive one, lol. Will need to find out how long ago was the work done, was any suggested work declined? The shop in cali can probably get reimbursed for the parts costs, but not labor, hence their reluctance to cover that. Assuming he is here now as I mentioned before, he still may have recourse thru the BAR-burea of auto repair. Its a california agency thats like some nazis there. Auto repair there is more tightly regulated then anywhere else in the country, and if the shop didnt dot the I's and cross their T's,then they get some heat.

Mechanic's lien means if he approved the repair and doesn't pay he forfeits the car. He can also be charged storage fees for every day they wait for payment. My advice would be for him to pay his bill, then sue. I'm assuming the repairs are done and the car runs, but he thinks he was overcharged? Many mechanics charge between 150 and 200 an hour, plus parts. What was the nature of the repair?

Which post were you reading?

Customer paid for services and repairs, repairs failed. Provider(mechanic) refusing to make good on services.

and I am not sure where you are taking your car, But even AAMCO only gets $90/hr

Thanks all. Legaleagle explained to me that the jurisdiction would actually be California, so I'll let him know.
