So I have a brother that is "that guy" [Rant1] He has had a few wives and girl friends that run his life for him, they arent social and he wont even show up to his nephew's birthday party when invited. But he sure dont mind calling when his crap is broke down, which is all he buys. Every vehicle he has had for like 15 years has been a turd and I told him that before he bought them but he doesnt care because he thinks I will always fix it for him. But after being a GM tech for years I have changed proffessions and now I dont even work on my own stuff, I buy new so I have warranties then I trade them in after the warranty is expired. So anyways his latest turd is a Dodge pickup, I dislike Dodge anyways but this one is a turd. He has had it 5 months and had nothing but problems with it. Now the intake gasket is leaking and cheapest shop he could find (because he is cheap) wanted $600 to do it, but hes to cheap so he calls me telling me he can get the gasket from auto zone for $17 so why do they want $600. So today he tore into it and found out why. He has been calling me all day to come save his ass and I am not going to do it, he's on his own. I had family plans to take the kids to see "Rango". So now he has our dad calling me to help him. His friends that like working on cars wont help because he has asked so many favors over the years but never helps anyone else out. Its time for him to put his big boy pants on and suck it up!!! The SOB only calls me when his stuff is broke (his or his GF/wife of the year) so I am blocking his number. I am sure their is one of "those guys" in every family, he's kinda like the gay uncle nobody talks about [Beer]
Now to BBQ some burgers and get back to family time! Sorry for the rant [Bang]
Note: I did have to laugh at him, he complained that the parts the shop quoted were like $150 which sounds fair to me for all the gaskets, coolant, oil etc. And he thought he was pretty smart spending $17 at vato zone. Then he called to complain that the cheap set didnt have the valve cover gaskets, T-stat gasket, distributor o-ring/gasket (not sure because I never work on Dodges).

I have a "that gal" in my family... my sister.
I got off fairly cheap by most standards... "loaned" her $500 bucks some 5-6 years ago and never got paid back. She hasn't asked again.

Good for you for not helping. At a certain point, it just becomes enabling. Hope he skins every knuckle. [ROFL2]

Yeah, I figger that 500 bucks is less than $9 a month to keep her out of my life for the last 5+ years. That number is just getting better as time goes by. Great investment.
My family has always been pretty good about shunning the less than worthy folk, but I have one uncle who's just been a drunk, coked-up thief my whole life. Only took a couple of shared jobs for my dad to remember why he doesn't talk to him.

Ya never heard that? Jordan, I need to teach ya some things. Understand that my FIL quit his last job because all they wanted him to do was translate but then bitched at him because his work was not done.[Rant1]

Dude you need to go there and fix this right away.... I had a similar problem with an older relative, and I put him in "guardianship" to protect him from his childrens. 3 Years ago my cousin had to find a job for the first time ever...He was 46.

Thats the worst, its bad enough when it happens to you but to see someone do it to some one else. My brother is always borrowing money from my dad also, then I hear from my nephews that they are buying new PC's, cameras, eating high dollar stuff its ridiculous. I took saturday off to go to Cheyenne for my oldest nephews (first kid from first of three wives) graduation, his "dad" didnt even show up.

Won't work.
He is sound of mind and body.
Just doing what a dad does and helping a son that can't help himself.
Still pissing me off.

Probably a 5.2 or 5.9L V8, right? They have problems with the intake manifold plenum gasket going bad, and the engine then burns a lot of oil.
My yard is full of Chrysler products, but only the Durango has that engine. 99,000 miles on it now, and that problem hasn't shown up. It's a fairly big job to pull the intake. There is a sheet metal cover on the bottom of the manifold, and that's where the problem is. But like was pointed out, it still needs new manifold-to-head gaskets, new valve cover gaskets, a new gasket for the T-stat, new coolant, and an oil change afterward.
And repairs for anything else that was damaged during the job.
Good on you for making him stand on his own.
