View Full Version : I spanked a ricer at the track
I love when they pull beside me in the lanes and act like they are going to show the old guy in a 4 door family car up. and then this happens....

I LoL'd...[ROFL2]
What was your time?
I spun pretty bad and pulled off a 13.7 @ 106 m.p.h. I dont think that's to bad for a 4400 pound car.
My best time was a 13.8 at 106 mph as well. I never could drive that car.
Hey, I recognize that quarter mile, I drove past it today.
Nice ride

thats great for a tank like that! Did you see the silver Charger SRT down there a few weeks ago? My buddy steve had his down there and ran 13.01@108 on the motor and ran it on the bottle the next pass and broke an axle on the line.
Srt is a sweet motor... Also way to go spankin a ricer

Doesn't count when they are slow.
Wouldnt it be funny if the owner of the ricer was a member of this forum? Could be an interesting "you suck" back and forth! [Coffee]
That car wasn't a ricer by the way.
always good to see someone beat a car that thinks it is tough and you have more displacement in your left bank of cylinders.
the best is always a 7000 lb truck smoking a little ricer.

evo's are quite ricey
i do agree that it is not a body kitted civic with nothing done motor wise and a fart can exhuast thinking it is fast and all and all generally annoying but rice powered none the less.
I have a "ricer" and it likes to play with SRTs that think they're fast......just sayin [Beer]

Yours is legit though there are some stupid fast rice rockets that can hold thier own with just about anything alot of the time they are all talk.

the sad thing is he ran a low 14 and was closer to me than the 3 or 4 mustang gt's that I ran, they were pulling high 14's and mid 15's.

I'm with you, that wasn't a ricer car, unless it was covered in worthless stickers and parts that don't add any performance.
Cool SRT though. What track is that at?
GT Mustangs have always been slow until very, very recently.

You know what they say about racing ricers and winning the special olympics...even if you win win you're still retarded! [ROFL1][LOL] Those damn Chargers do run well for being a tank.

yes it is, I ran my duramax out there and played with them a couple of years ago, but with diesel at over 4 bucks a gallon, and I dont trust the allison with the quad and the edge turned up for to many passes, I dont run it any more.

That is a nice time on street tires. But I always kind of enjoyed those kind of encounters in my POS daily driver Mitsu :-).

I will be there with the srt most every friday. I may run my bike one friday(i'm getting a little old to run over a 130 m.p.h. on two wheels) that is if the wife say's I can, we run the big car on most sat-sunday races. btw what does your car run? so I know to stay away or not.[Tooth]
Hey, sticking up for the evo, or at least just the 08 Lancer Evo which is the only year I love (newest appears to go back to the 08 style) they are not ricer to start. Yes, many many many, end up with that fate, but some like my army bud keeps it simple and classy. (Bit of a tune, cold air, exhaust - non obnoxious, ~412 horse) No removing seats, adding on resonator's, or any other silly crap.
Never was a muscle car type the last couple years of the US made trifecta has me drooling, Can never remember if it is the mustang or charger I don't care for but the other one + camaro are hot.
Got an 08 VW R32 (V6 260hp AWD) in January, been itching to find legitimate places to race up north without getting in trouble. Get lots of nice comments and it makes a great smooth/comfortable daily. Just wish I had the $10k to add the CTS turbo and get it up to 420hp. Needs it, for such a small car, it's 3400lbs.
If anyone is into SCCA or knows of autocross style racing opportunities within 30 minutes of Fort Collins/Loveland I'd love to hear from ya. Especially if it's something that happens on a Tues or Wed. My job is lame in that those days are my weekend. (Started on guns, cars are a new passion, so I'm really just learning some things.)

High 11's but I have done alot of suspension stuff since last year(up front-tubular k member,A-arms coilovers strange 10way shocks)(in the back-upper and lower contorl arms, spherical bushings strange 10ways and upr coilovers.), also took a few hundred pounds out of the car. I am hoping for 11.5 since I dont have a rollbar I cant go any faster... hehe.
We are in the process of building a nostalgia car. maybe an altered of gasser.
Been outa of it for about 3 years now since a friend passed.
Best 6.96 @ 201.96 in an Alky RED
37 Chevy Pro Mod 6.78 @ 207.37 all at altitude
We just did an SCCA type car a 69' Firebird for a guy, he's going to run that GT class for pre 72' cars. Hav a few road racers that we have built as well as alot of drag cars from Fuelers to brakets.
More into rat rods right now we will be at the KBPI show on the 11th with hopefully 3 cars and a bike or 2. Wish we still had the 55' to kick Willie B's ass.

thats flat out haulin, we got a new motor for the altered, going to try to get it in over the next couple of weeks, it runs mid 9's now, the new one should put it well into the 8's with plain old 115 octane race fuel.

Aside going straight and fast... which I think is cool... anyone here ever took their car out to High Plains Raceway?
You can definitely see it all... from the ricers, muscle cars, and the exotics (cars right off the streets and fully modded ones) during their track days... and it is a fantastic asphalt track with elevations, about 15 turns (If I remember correctly), and a super long ass straight away!
I race my bike there, but I really enjoy watching the cars tear it up (especially the exotics) on their track days. Sometimes I think they are going a little faster than the bikes are especially in the turns (4 wheels compared to 2 wheels on the ground), but no times are recorded on track days.
Thought I'd see or contribute an idea for some of the petroleum junkies here as another form of having a good time with your rides. [Beer]

You can't go wrong with German engineering... I myself can't wait until my 1st round of mods on my '05 BMW 325xi are done this summer so I can go lay waste to the little ricers that love to cruise around Lakewood.
I am curious though, how many bikers are in here? I used to have an '03 CBR600RR that ate corvettes and crapped out mustangs and hopefully will be able to get a 2010 600RR around January. Granted bikes are in a totally different class, but still, 0-60 in faster than I can time because I'm having too much fun.
And as far as American badass speed is concerned, I love those SRTs, especially the '11 Charger SRT8 Limited.

I ride there too. You going June 26th?
where's this 1/4 mile track? and how tough are they in Tech inspection?
I'm finally tuned for altitude and would love to make a few runs out here to see how much the thin air changes times.
I ask about tech, 'cause back home I could usually get 2 runs in before I was told I couldn't run anymore (too fast for the my safety equipment).
Fastest run was 10.44 / 127.29mph on drag radials at sealevel
I'd like to make a couple runs at high plains too, I just hate getting beat by miatas. I have 3xs the hp, but those miata guys can drive their cars

Bandimere goes by NHRA rules. for the !/4 and that is all they have.
where's this 1/4 mile track?
About 4 miles west of I-25 on Hwy50, northern end of Pueblo. Google "Pueblo Motorsports Park". I went and watched the drag strip, and the kids on these quarter midgets. They go maybe 40 miles per hour in a perfect circle. I almost got motion sick just watching it! There is also a road course that includes the drag strip, and lots of room for dirt bikes/quads.
H.
My ricer did a 12.2/115mph @ bandimere. When asked I told the TO that I figured it'd run a low 14. After a sub 13 run I was quickly told to park it because I didn't have the required safety equipment. I never did find out what it'd do on the race map.
Shoulda saw the looks I got from the old guys in their mid-life crisis fix after I put a couple bus lengths on 'em. [Tooth]

I've got a Charger- while it's not an SRT, it's a '07 Police package.. so what it's missing in the HP dept (stock besides a Tuner, AFAIK, I bought it from CSP), it makes up for in suspension & brakes... at least in '07, the Police package had better brakes and suspension than even SRT's
would be fun to take it out to some kind of event, SCCA or the like to see what I can get out of it- I still have the Z-rated cop tires that were on it when I bought it (currently has H-rated tires & alloy rims from a '10 Challenger on it)
I'm too busy (& lazy?) to figure out where I can run it without big investment in time and/or $$ for club/track fees... and I'm not interested in doing something stupid on public streets, I've outgrown that...[Coffee]
Maybe I'll just try to get it out to PMP sometime.. look for a sliver Charger with 3 antenna plugs, an extra roof plug, and a searchlight on the A-Pillar...

I had a r/t 5.7 prior to my srt, It ran 15.20 at pmp, with a diablo programmer, magnaflow duals and a cold air kit, they run pretty well. I would of kept it but I got such a deal on the srt I could not pass it up.
After a sub 13 run I was quickly told to park it because I didn't have the required safety equipment.
That's the problem I have too...some issues are easy enough to fix, like I can put in a 5 point harness instead of the 4 point I have now. or install a drive shaft loop
But I'm not cutting up the car to put a 5 point roll bar or a full cage for the couple times a year I may want to track it.
I re-geared the rear over the winter too, so I'll be a little slower there too. Maybe with street tires, 3.27 gears and and extra 5280ft in altitude I can loose 2.5 second and my car will pass tech
Car15, is your car stock? If so, that's an awesome time for a stock ride.
Only hot rod I've ever owned was this one. Damn, that was a long time ago! Sure wish I still had it.....

Just track days for now. I'm riding a race prepped '99 R1, so I'm all ready to go modern vintage racing, just can't afford the time and $ right now. Plus, I'm old and my bones break easily!

street tires= massive wheel spin. pmp wont let street tires on the treated line we have to run off to the side, if I had slicks or ran at a track with a sprayed line it would be a half second faster or more. but taking over a full second off a 4400 pound car in the 1/4 and keeping it reliable enough to be a daily driver is not a easy task, and it aint cheap.

building that bike was the biggest mistake I can recall making, I made it to fast to be fun, I had to lower it to keep the front wheel down which in turn made it corner like crap, had to cut into the rear subframe to install the bottle to make it nhra legal, which made it unsafe to carry a passenger, so now its a garage queen that I have to much money to sell it and come close to even, and the wife wont let me ride it to much, so it just sits.[Bang]

I dont know about bandimere, but its 15-20 bucks at pmp here in pueblo.
1/4 mile launching takes much practice, and a ton of burned up clutch discs. finding the fine line between a wheelie and a bog is not easy.
Sounds like some nice vehicles on this thread/board....we should start a "Show n Shine" pic thread of them.

$15-$20 bucks... I love that track PMP... I'm a try that before snow starts falling. I'm gonna suck at it [ROFL1]... I'm on that line of burning clutches trying to launch off the line... it is an art for sure. Love watching the pro's (cars or bikes) take off on the line... take off in a blink of an eye... watching'em run and take off that fast... Daaanng.. wish I could do that..[Bang]
I do not know what is "ricer"... Is it something that goes around a track in the same time than something with SRT, SS etc. sticker on it, but needs only half of the horsepower of SRT or SS :D
My old daily driver "ricer" used to go 9.8 and around 230 km/h trap speed (about 140 mph) with street tires, pump gas etc - just like I drove it every day back then.
I do not know if that other car in car-15 video is EVO 9, looks like it but they used to go 13.1-13.2 bone stock when we were testing every single one that was used to built group N rally car.
But, in my opinion, accelerating on straight line with street car is about as exciting as watching grass grow. Yes, it changes alot when you are going 100+ mph on 2 wheels...
If you wanna know if your street car is teen boy´s traffic light dream or badass drivers car, take it to a track that has turns to both directions. Cars tend to show their bad sides when you push them sideways on tarmac with 4th or 5th gear.
Btw; some old drag race guy once teached me, that "track" has turns and "strip" is a straight line.
just 2 cents from ol´rally & track racer [Tooth]

And for an all American Muscle car... It would be awesome to have a Shelby Cobra...
You can get a Skyline in Japan for like $5,500. They are like Toyota Celicas over there.
I did see a Nissan GTR driving down 44th the other day.
I have an STI and I don't mess with the V8s in a straight line. I remember that saying to this day; "There's no replacement for displacement". So, I don't bark up that tree.
I'm not into drag racing. But gimme them twisties, auto-X, or the racetracks, like HPR, and I'll play all day with the V8s.
I love those old/new again Muscle cars, but they don't seem to handle very well without massive suspension work.

Guess i'm going through my 2nd childhood.I bought a 2010 Challenger R/T , could'nt justify another 10 grand for theSRT8.In my own opinion Dodge has done the best job on the retro muscle cars.Of course I opted for the 6 speed m anual tranny. It was freakin awesome, the Civic pulls up and revs it, the cat in the Camaro looks over and laughs. He just plays it cool, the Honda starts to get on it and you hear WAAAAAAAAA and the Camaro is gone...............I mean he is easily an 1/8th mi in front of the Honda isn't even out of second gear!
Awesome
Thanks for thew compliments guys...
she has a stroked 351W (to 408)....trans is a tremec 3650
At sea level it was 450hp-425ft lbs of torque. I had 4.10 gears in her, but highway driving sucked, I put 3.08s in, it's not a quick, but it's a lot more enjoyable to drive

That's until the Z06's come out.
Not really, I used to work them in my last S4. ZO6's were some of my favorite to auto x with, they'd be so frustrated that a 4 door on street tires was spanking them. 400 whp going to all four corners made it fun to play with them in a straight line too.

I'm a huge fan of Audi's. I'd love to pick up an S8, but they're a tad pricey. [ROFL2]
