No more shooting in Pike Nat'l Forest?

Was talking to my buddy yesterday and he said that some friends of his were told by a forest ranger that all of Pike National Forest is or soon will be closed to shooting. I realize this is hearsay (my sister's friend's uncle's dog's groomer's former college roommate) and I doubt it myself, but has anyone else heard anything like this?

We heard the same thing from a ranger at the last north shoot. It's total bs though. Just the rangers using it as a scare tactic to get people to follow the rules. Scare them into thinking they have to obey the rules or lose their shooting area. The people down here laughed when I asked, and said... "Yeah, that's gonna happen' here in the republican stronghold of the state :roll: ".

That's kinda what I thought. Kinda cheap of the rangers to lie to people though.

Pike National Forest has long had a policy of no shooting except in their designated shooting areas in the months on June, July and August. Obviously this is very hard to enforce....and a rule that is broken very frequently by a lot of folks.

It is posted on signs in the forest as well a ticketable offense. Because of the amount of non-shooter recreational activity in the forest in those months they adopted that policy. The tickets would be for unlawful discharge as well as wreckless discharge...which by the way are federal charges...not state of local.

I know 1st hand as my buddy got ticketed on the Douglas/El Paso border about a mile off 67. It has taken him about 10 years to clear up enough to allow him to be able to buy a firearm again.....because it was a weapon violation...it makes it tough to pass the background check...they always put him on hold. He brings the court documents now to expedite things if he is buying a firearm.
