View Full Version : What is wrong with schools these days?

This story kind of reminds me of the student a couple months ago who put up the sign on the side of the school asking a girl to prom and wasn't allowed to go because he did something "unsafe." Question now is, what kind of schools are our kids going to where innocent fun is punished?

But the students that are real problems go around un-punished. These two light saber yahoos are on the verge of being the next trench coat mafia killers I'm sure...

Lmao, so instead of saying "hey guys don't you think your a little old for this". They much rather take away the defining moment of walking the line in the graduation ceremony and for this? The principal is a douchebag on a power trip.

I agree. If I had kids and they did something like that and got that severe of punishment believe me I'd be on the phone with my lawyer, the superintendent, the governor and I would use that principal as the example of "outlawing fun and games is the first step to creating a hostile learning environment." I've seen friends when I was in high school get punished for some ridiculous stuff but when I got bullied by an older student and reported it, they only had a talk with him and I got harassed even more for ratting him out... I seriously think schools these days are bs and need to be fixed.

Two words describe what is wrong with school these days:

Liberal
Progressives

We went to my nieces graduation in Calhan this last weekend. At the beginning of the ceremony a pastor gave a brief invocation saying thanks to God for helping guide the graduates through trials and tribulations of school and asking God the continue his guidance of these kids as they started their adult lives. There was a reference to the troubled times America is seeing and what is wrong with America and with Gods help we will prevail.
Now I am not a religious man in the least but I thought it was a nice way to start the ceremony.
My wife did not think it was appropriate, that church and State are to remain separate and it had no place in a school function.
I tried to explain to her that this aint the big city and faith is an integral part of a small community such as Calhan.
She still didn't get it.
After the ceremony as the kids were milling around I ran into the pastor and told him I thought his invocation was nice to see. I then told him that his statement of what is wrong with America is too large of a subject to try and decipher right then and there but the community he looks over is what is RIGHT with America.
It brought the man to tears.

We can blame government and school districts and so fourth. Most of this however came about due to parents wanting a "safe environment" for their kids. A kid gets scrapped knees from failing on the play ground playing tag, parents make a few calls to school officials and suddenly tag is no longer allowed. People are so afraid of kids getting hurt they lose rationale in trying to protect them. If the school administration/teachers do not adhere to the demands they loose their jobs.

This country is turning into a shit-show because of cowards and pussies. When I was younger (not too long ago) I thought it was bad. This crap is just sad now. Sounds like the parents are pussies too or they would have stood up for their kids.

I'm old enough that when I got bullied in HS, I popped said bully in the nose (after hours, off school grounds), and that was the end of it. Now a kid doing the same would be arrested and expelled for having the audacity to fight back, and the bully would be painted as the victim. [Bang]

I recall reading a story a few months back where 2 kids had a bit of a beef like you described above. They pugged it out and actually became friends afterwards. The school got wind of the altercation and had both kids arrested at school.
This was like 2 months after the beef and no, the parents of the kids were not the ones that filed the complaint/charges.
It was the school. The school claimed that since the initial disagreement started at school they had the right to file the complaint even though nothing occured on the school property.

The Pussification continues.

"Someone could've gotten hurt."

That about sums it up doesn't it? Everyone needs to be protected from everything. Anything that could possibly cause pain to anyone will be licensed and controlled by the state FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!

After 75 years of pain free living, the citizen died a pain free death - Death notice from the State sanctioned news media. [Mad]

Like graduating from high school is some big deal. I blew off my college graduation. I don't even know what month is was. I just stopped showing up when I was done with classes.

I find it interesting that my high school yearbook shows many kids running around with fake knives, guns and other items during special events at the school. Halloween, home coming, theater, other types of things. (mid 80's) here in Lakewood. Things have changed.

My kid was expelled for a day during 3rd grade when someone was bothering him and wouldn't stop, he blurted out some bad words to that kid, who got to stay.

no lie....in HS, we brought our rifles into school (esp in winter on our snowmachines but also on the bus) and we took them into the Secretary's office so she would "watch" them. The fear wasn't that someone would steal or misuse them, it was the fear that someone would not take the same care of our prized possessions! We typically went ptarmigan hunting on the way home or checked the trap lines.
Sounds like I'm 80- but that was in the late eighties/early nineties!
F*@k civilization- I can't really see any good that has come from it. Well, ok- mini skirts in size medium and small and better race tires.

You got to be kidding me. This won't win the dumbest post of the year but it was your best shot, I'm sure.

Same here. I pulled some crap near the end of my senior year and they threatened to not let me walk. I asked if I still got a diploma and they said yes so I was like "ok screw off then."

the "Magic the Gathering" and "Pokemon" card clubs will be disbanded immediately in fear of the possibility of paper cuts.

Wow, some of this sounds like I was born 15-20 years too late... My freshman year of HS a buddy of mine who was a senior came straight from camping to school one monday and had his 12ga in his cab in a gunrack with a visible trigger lock... three deputies and threat of arrest later his father had to come and explain the situation that they were camping up in Estes, had some car problems, his son had to jumpstart his truck and an early 80's single cab chevy couldn't hold anything else so Jr had to use his truck to carry the gun home and was either going to be very late or bring the gun. Luckily no one was expelled, arrested, or even suspended. This was 1999.
