I just picked up a Browning BAR in 308. It is the Mark II lightweight stalker. I love it, but would like a longer barrel (it comes with a 20")

Can I change out the barrell for a longer one...24"?

Thanks

After checking some sources and some reference material the short answer is: Not advisable.
The barrel would need to be turned from a blank, chambered and finished. There is a substantial risk of receiver damage and more than likely it would have to be refinished. It is recommended that the factory receiver wrench be used and if one can be found it is cost prohibitive (1500.00+) All of this adds up quickly and by the time it is done you will very likely exceed the value of the rifle and whatever would be gained by the swap would be negligible
