That man is a badass and deserving of the honor.
A true American hero. It fills me with pride to see the kind of amazing things this man has done, culminating in the highest honor our country can bestow.

He has deployed eight times in support of the War on Terror, with two tours to Iraq and six tours to Afghanistan.

Dang, what a great story.
I fought with Petry (then SPC Petry) when I was in 2nd Bn. The stories I have....probally shouldn't post them. Lets just say he's a very avid deer hunter. Not too many places in barracks to skin a deer other than pull up bars outside or showers inside. 1SG didn't like either one of those options....Good times.
Petry is a great Ranger and definately exemplifies the Ranger Creed. Whether he wants the recognition or not, he earned it. We can only hope the Army doesn't burn him out on a PR tour like they did Guinta and let him keep doing what he's doing now in the Regiment.
As the title of this thread says....RLTW!

What a great story, what a great hero!
I remember when I first read his story, how he saved lives at the loss of his own hand tossing a grenade away... what a brave guy! Goes to show, we have the most selfless, courageous, and badass men and women in our military. A good friend of mine served and learned under SFC Monti (the 10th Mtn NCO who was posthumously awarded the MOH 3 years ago). It was an honor to even be in the same BRIGADE as a hero and fine man like that.
+1 to anyone who loves and supports the military, it's a tough job that less than 1% of the population gets into.
