I just bought a Colt Rail Gun (best gun name ever) and the trigger seems to have a lot of play in it. My first question is can I fix that by tightening the little allen screw that's inside the bottom of the trigger? If not who is a good 1911 gunsmith that I can take this to and have back quickly. It's my ccw gun so I would like to have it back fast.

Whatever you do DO NOT go to Gunsmoke to have them work on it.

Rob at Bowers is another good contact.

did some google'n and I found out that the screw in the trigger is an over travel screw. The trigger seems have movement up and down as well as left to right and it seems to have a quite a bit of creep in it. I'm ganna go shooting soon so I will see how it does. I wanted to wait to get a trigger job for a little bit. I guess we will have to see.

DO NOT mess with the overtravel screw! Improper "adjustment" (ie dicking with it) can and will result in hammer/sear damage which is not cheap to fix not to mention an unsafe firearm.
What you are describing is normal for a production pistol. The factory cannot afford to hand fit every trigger so they find a happy medium that drops in.
The fix? Have an oversized trigger such as a Grieder installed. This is not the same as a "trigger job" however where the engagement surfaces are precision honed and polished, springs are tuned and the internals are massaged for a virtually frictionless action.

Look me up when you are ready Nate. Your trigger will be so nice you will swear your finger just had sex.[Beer]

Hey Bret,

I have the same 1911 and its taken apart at the moment. It needs a new trigger and put back together. Is there a place I can drop this off to you and have it put back together with a new trigger?

Thanks

We certainly can but I will have to bring in the trigger as I don't have a new one on hand unless I can find a Grieder local.
Look up my contact info in my IP thread and give me a call-I am actually on the road right now and won't be back to my place till a bit later.

Finger bang ? [ROFL3][ROFL3][ROFL3]

Sorry , I just couldn't let that one slide by.
On a serious note, Bert can make your trigger as smooth butter and break like fine crystal. But keep the pull weight at about 4#s, or and ND may be in your future.

Mmmmkay...
I was kind of thinking to get me a Colt Rail Gun myself...
I figured if I am going to get a 1911 for collection purposes (I am carrying an XDM right now), it should probably be a Colt, you know, the original.
Should I reconsider?
What say you folks that own one?
Is it worth the $900+?[Help]

Collectible 1911? How much do you want to spend Luigi? A true collectible such as a Remington Rand, Singer or WWI Canadian will set you back a chunk.
Next to that the Series 70 models(no firing pin safety) will always be more desirable than the 80 Series.

Your right Luigi- Colt "rail gun" with a 100,000,000 candlepower light, 200,000,000 watt laser and drilled and tapped for a Aimpoint for CQB and a Nightforce for distance work.
