Leaving Tanner at the merchandise mart yesterday (Sat) at about 1:15, just in front of me were two very big Denver cops escorting a young guy (20-22) out in cuffs. Anyone know what that was about? I was thinking maybe he is a Beeho (BHO...) supporter. As most should know, the Tanner is an Obama-free zone..

He probably had a warrant out.

I wish this would get more media attention, instead of giving the sheep an impression that gun shows are "law-free zones".

i watched the little guy trying real hard not to cry as he passed my table in cuffs . when i asked about it the guard says that it happens more than one would think .
i guess people actually think that guns shows dont run background checks

Pretty common occurrence. I worked shows for 3 years and usually one gets "the ride" per show.
Active warrants are usually the culprit. It can get kind of interesting, when CBI gets the info from the background check that the party is hot they will call the dealer and advise them that party X has an active warrant and the Sheriffs office has been notified. Then they will ask if the party is present and try to get a description to pass to the LEO. If the party is still present we would try to keep them "entertained" until the sheriffs showed up. There were a couple of times when the party was not there and the sheriffs would stay in the shadows until they got the nod from us when the party came back to get their new acquisition. They got a good surprise when they found out that they were in fact the new acquisition.

Of course I would not be the least surprised to find out if he got carted off for dope possession. I noticed more than a few times someone would walk past me and they just reeked of the stuff.

We will never see any good press out of this. The media would just turn it around and say look criminals are trying to get guns here.

Just wanted to add:
I loved the sign about not having any loaded firearms to include concealed carry.

Are there circumstances in which someone with no criminal record could have a warrant put out on them and be unaware of it? I have heard of several instances in which Denver mailed a subpoena to an individual's last known address (where they no longer resided) and put out a bench warrant for contempt of court when they failed to appear.

YES it absolutely can, it happened to me many years ago. I was working as a security guard and came across a 16 year old gangbanger who was drinking a 40 of malt liquor in the parking lot, when I told him to turn over the bottle and get on his way he threw it at me, I detained him for Thorton PD who sited him for Minor in possession. Fast forward about a year, I had joined the Army and was home on leave and was out on a date. I get stopped for speeding by Federal Heights PD, next thing I know Im spending the night in jail on an FTA warrant. The next day im carted off to Adams county. While I'm being booked into county I see a Fed Heights officer I know and he inquires what the hell im doing there. I tell him I have no idea and that I was just home on leave from the Army. He tells the Adco deputies he will take me in to see the judge as he is there rounding up guys for hearings anyway. I get some real hard looks from the inmates as I am riding up front and they are in back and dont like my special treatment. I get to the court and these inmates start questioning me in the holding cell as to why Im getting special treatment and "look like a cop" thankfully Im hauled in front of the judge before it gets nasty. Turns out I was subpoenaed to testify for the stupid MIP ticket, it was delivered to the security company (as was common practice to put the company address and not your own as the criminal would then have access to your address). The jackoff security company signed for it saying I would be there knowing full well I was at Ft. Benning GA in basic training. Long story short I explained this to the judge who called my recruiter to verify and I was released with an apology (which quite frankly I was in no mood to accept graciously at the time). Frankly to this day I still find it outrageous that an FTA was issued on me as a witness in a lousy MIP ticket. So yes it can and does happen. When I was an LEO there were many times I felt awfull dragging a guy off to jail who truthfully had no idea why.

I can't think of a time that I wasn't arrested when I went to the gun show. Why else even bother?

May I ask what company you worked for? I can see this exact thing happening to me later.

I was doing a bg check and the person was "in-process" for a long time. then a LEO showed up asked my processor a few questions, he made a call, the CBI put a "denied" on him, after I told him he was denied the LEO said "I have some more bad news" to the person that got denied, you can guess the rest.

Trust me, it happens more than you would think. Sometimes it is simply an error or someone claimed to be you, got a ticket and failed to appear (siblings close in age seem to fond of this). Sometimes your name, description and DOB are a match or close enough that you will get arrested on the other person's warrant. Sometimes a lazy cop won't try to find someone he intends to charge and would have ticketed but instead manages to get a warrant issued, etc.

On the other hand, if you are a law abiding citizen who has had a fairly stable job and residence history and haven't been involved in any fights, ugly domestic situations or such, haven't ignored a traffic ticket, jury summons or a subpoena, it isn't too likely.

If you are curious, go and try to buy a gun. You'll find out quick enough. Actually, some smaller police departments will run you if you walk in and ask. They usually won't do it over the phone and bigger departments aren't usually interested. A word of warning, though...walk into a cop shop and tell them you want to know if there are any warrants for you and they will be just a might suspicious. You might end up sitting in a locked room for a little while they try to figure you out.

It is a shame the general public has been led to believe that gun shows result in all sorts of illegal gun transactions.

Yeah the smell changed when obama got elected and even liberals thought they should probably get a gun, same time prices went through the roof.

when I had my ffl, several times I had denials, and a couple times the county boys showed up, all were by goofy charges, failure to appear on traffic crap, similar bs, once it was mistaken Identity, similar name, I hated being put in the middle, as it was a small town, and I was dealing with friends and neighbors, I am sure it all shows up as statistics where an illegal sale was prevented, when do they pass out the brown shirts?
