View Full Version : Took my son to shoot REAL guns for his first time...
We (My 12 year old son and I) went to Pawnee and had a blast Sunday. Nice weather, not crowded, great experience. He hadn't shot his GSG-5 yet, so after a day at the Tanner, we got ready and these photos are the result. My wife just wants her dining room table back...

That's bad ass. When the pics are posted, check out my new build- LW carbine- in that section of the forum.
Your kid's twelve and already has a GSG? Lucky little guy! My parents threw me a BB gun and said have at it [Coffee].

My parents took away my BB gun (as though that was the only one I had) when dead birds started wandering the neighborhood.

Your parents gave you a BB gun as a kid? Lucky little guy!
To this day my dad won't even let me bring a gun inside his house, always took away my BB guns and cap guns when he caught me with them when I was little. No idea how I turned out the way I did.
Props to you Cbrown for starting him off the right way.
If the dead birds are wandering, the zombie humans can't be far behind. And THAT'S why my son will be armed with a GSG5. :o)
12? Why'd ya make him wait so long? [Tooth]
I kid, I think Cody was about 12 here. Maybe a tad younger, don't know for sure.

My boy even got to shoot the "big boy guns" and blasted his first clay pigeons too.

My boys shot their first at 8. My oldest is now learning double tap drills on multiple targets at varying distances and doing a damn fine job (11) although he made the GF mad when he outdid her with her own pistol (CZ p07 .40). Hes even shot the AK and the HK91 clone. My younger one is still a little leary of shooting the rifle. But I believe its important to remove the "mystery" of firearms so they don't get themselves into trouble later.
That's awesome... I don't have kids yet, but my cousin's son is 6 and when he's old enough (and grandma and grandpa let him) I'm gonna take him out and let him start off with my old hand-me-down .22 bolt gun, maybe let him shoot the Glock and my AR.... So cool how there are awesome parents that teach their kids how to shoot so the next generation has a better understanding of why daddy and mommy spend more on gun accessories than toys.

I get a lot of daddy daughter time when I clean my guns. My soon to be 7 year old helps me as we do our cleanings together and talk about different firearms and parts and the importance of "Safety First" each and everytime.

my wife is pregnant and one of the things i look forward to the most is teaching them about guns. And then savoring the look on the face of our childs first date when im sitting there, cleaning my guns, telling good ole war stories.[ROFL1]
My step son decided a few years back that he wanted to go elk hunting with his uncles. He really hadn't shot too many firearms in his life but was really itching to go hunt elk. After explaining to him that if he wanted to hunt elk he was going to have to "man up" and shoot a real rifle, he decided to give it a go. Needless to say, we bought him a 7mm Remington Magnum and I worked him up some "elk loads" with some heavy 175 grain bullets. I think he didn't enjoy the experience as much as he thought he would. [ROFL1] Turns out the whole hunting thing wasn't really for him. I think he thought he would just show up, walk a little distance, and shoot an elk. He had no clue he would be camping in sub-freezing temperatures, hiking long distances at high elevation in the snow, never see an elk, and go home without firing a single shot. [Coffee]
