Anybody heard anything about Remington's re-entry into the 1911?
I saw some prototypes when I was living in TN and it was discussed at length on a board I was once a moderator of...

To be honest I'm about 1911'ed out. It's probably easier to list who isn't making them than who is. Reminds me of a Beckett Quote: "The sun shone, having no alternative, on nothing new"
Never owned one. Shot my brother's colt while back, felt decent.
Have a sig 220 and g 19. Just trying to decide on another handgun for the collection. Or more fuel for a divorce?

I bought a R1 a couple months ago, and so far its been great. Perfectly reliable after the break-in period, and pretty damn accurate to boot. Fit and finish isn't exactly up to par with higher end 1911s, but good enough for me.
In terms of modifications, I've added a Wilson Combat full length guide rod and an 18 1/2 lb. recoil spring. I also replaced the wood grips with the Hogue rubber wraparound grips, but I don't expect I'll do much beyond that. Might replace the mainspring housing, as the stock unit is polymer, but overall I'm very happy with it as is.

It's a 1911A1, made in the USA by a reputable company and it's priced in the low $600 range.
What's not to like?
I had the opportunity to shoot a hundred or so rounds through one. Shot like a champ...perfectly reliable.
Sounds like a good entry level. Just need to finished paying off the Ar15 9mm and will be GTG.
I have 2 pt1911's a ria 1911 a1 and a2 i have a s&w sw1911 and a desert eagle 1911g. and a para 14.45 lda on the way. The best 1911's out of them all are the s&w or the desert eagle, it would be a hard choice both are tack drivers and have very tight tolerances. Hope this helps I know they are not remingtons but I have shot everything from a $75,000 singer 1911 number 375 of 500 produced, (which I believe remington rand baught the tooling in 1941 and started producing them in 1942) to a 379 dollar ria 1911. So I have shot a few needless to say, and I would like to think I know a good one when I shoot it, considering it is my favorite hand gun. I would also recommend the ria, it is a great gun when the feed ramp is polished.
