Hey fellas, im new to Colorado, and i have been looking at your gun laws/regulations for a while, but there is still alot i dont know. Now there is a few things i do know(to a certain extent)i.e, you can have a gun in your vehicle, you can get a CCW pretty darn easy, class III state etc.
What i would like to know is if you guys can help me out by letting me know of any laws pertaining to firearms that most people out of the state wont/dont know.
Any other laws not pertaining to firearms would also be helpful also.
Thanks in advance!

Hrmm your allowed to carry open holster without any sort of permit....

Also your not allowed to carry weapons around with a gun sling.... I think our local nut case was to blame for that or somthing... and basically all else is pretty simple you can own anything (exept for things banned by the feds)... shoot on public land as long as you obide by the forest rangers rules and have fun. Welcome to colorado! I Look forward to seeing you at one of our shoots!

Oh and one more thing... I hear that Denver is evil.... i'd say dont go near it with too many guns or you might get in trouble.... i think assualt rifles are banned there, not to sure about pistols though... (i'm in Colorado Springs)

The whole Denver thing is over blown I work in Denver every single day. My shop is right in the heart of Denver and it's not a big deal. I took my M16 to work one day to tinker with it also had the suppressor on it. I didn't have a lot of work on this day so I figured it would give me something to do.

I get to work only to have half of Denver PD there a guy was stabbed to death in the street in front of my shop. I have video surveillance inside and out. They wanted the tapes so I gave them the tapes two detectives as well as several in uniform laughed when they seen the M16. They all joked with me about how they feel sorry for the dumba$$ that tries to rob me.

Denver is not as bad as everyone tries to make it sound. I sure havent had any troubles ever.

Uhhh, hmmm, NO! First, there's no state law that you can't do that. Second, the state pre-emption law says the city can't say that. Even so, I doubt Colorado Springs would actually bother. They have banned open carry in their buildings because of that idiot, but CCW is OK. Karl.

NOTE; the current state pre-emption is still a matter for the courts.

I carry, but I carry on my person at all times. I also have a backup that I don't usually carry. When I'm not carrying it, it's in a gun safe mounted in the car. Karl.

I have a CCW so like Karl I carry on my person every where I go. On the other hand you can have a gun in your vehicle concealed with out a permit any place in the state. You can put the gun any place you so choose in your vehicle and it's perfectly legal. Rifles can not have a round in the chamber handguns can other than that carry one in your vehicle how ever you wish.

All in due time Muzzleflash, first things first! Id love to get a can or 2 down the road, is the paperwork a pain in the a$$ for purchasing a supressor? Is it hard to get one? or is it just a case of filling paperwork and waiting?

As for the ClassIII, ill have to save more than pennies for that!

Thanks for the link. From what i have been reading it is easier/quicker to get a ClassIII, or a SBR than it is to get a can. All these "forms" gets quite confusing, but im sure after a while i will figure it out.

No such thing as class 3 it makes no difference what kind of NFA weapon you want they all require the same paper work.

Ok, so you're saying that if i want a suppresor, or a SBR, or a MG, that all of them require the same paperwork?
But the wait periods are all different?
Still kinda confused if you cant tell:)
THX.

i'm fairly sure it all goes on a form 4. unless you want to turn something into a sbr then thats a form 1. i have only done a MG myself so i could be wrong

I was trying to make it simple as possible there are two forms. First is a form 1 that is what you fill out to personally make an NFA weapon except MG's they are banned for us to make. Then there is a Form 4 which is what you fill out to transfer an already existing NFA weapon to yourself.

Both forms require the same process there is no difference as far as your end go's. If you purchase something from somebody out of state then you have to have a dealer like Alan transfer it in state then form 4 it to you.

The best thing for you to do is decide what you want and when your ready there is plenty of us here that can walk you through it. We have Ryan, Karl, Me, Alan, MP5, Muzzleflash and Richard just to name a few.

The can thing probably comes from an apprehension that certain CLEOs have with suppressors. I have heard on the boards that some folks can't get a sheriff to sign off on cans. I don't know anyone in Colorado that has that policy.

Hollywood has everyone thinking that only CIA agents and hit men have a use for these. In some countries (Finland, Germany and France FWIH), they aren't even regulated items. They're hearing protection. Go figure.

Here's the accessories for a Walther P22 from the German site by way of example. Check out the third accessory item from the top. The pistol case at the bottom of the page is molded to hold the can too.
