So I got to thinking the other day, and would appreciate some input. I come from a long line of firefighters, my grandfathers (both sides) were firefighters, my parents actually met on our local volunteer FD, and my dad just retired a few years ago from the VFD. However, instead of following due to the crummy politics on the department (one of the main reasons my old man called it quits) I had considered becoming a reserve deputy with Jefferson County Sheriff. I'm well aware I need to become POST certified, and wouldn't be doing so until I finish school and have my Bachelor's. My question is, can a reserve deputy be strictly SWAT? I realize that Jeffco gets only a handful of situations that require a SWAT dispatch so it would be a great once in a while deal for me so I can serve my community and add some excitement to my sometimes boring life. I have tactical training from the military and my deputy buddies all tell me that if I ever got on the department (full time or otherwise) they'd suggest I get my SWAT qualification and jump on that. Any advice or help?
