Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should be OK by mid-October...
My wife and I actually paid to have the NEIGHBOR'S cottonwood removed. They were about to be foreclosed on, and didn't have the cash to have that dangerous, branch dropping, mess making bastard cut down. It was worth every penny of the grand that we paid, just so we could use our back yard again.... [Rant1][Rant2]
Great firewood,,, [ROFL1]
You could just kill it off...
Hey, we've got a creek and trail system behind our house that's lined with huge cottonwoods. You should see what they do to our window screens! Guess ya just gotta live with it.

just FYI, the cotton isn't the pollen.
and those are typically older trees, you have only be able to buy cottonless cottonwoods for 30+ years around here.
I hope that October comment is a joke!
It's my neighbors tree, so not much i can do about it. It that fucker blows over i sure hope it goes into his house. It's just a tree, so i'm not mad at them for it, but god damn if it isn't annoying as hell. There are 2 broken branches hanging over the fence that is also all fucked up from the roots so i'm hoping one breaks off and crushes the fence so he can replace it!
I have two giant, over 60' tall, cottonwoods between my house and the nieghbors house. I want them gone so bad but can't afford it right now. I have huge limbs just hanging over my house and I can only wash my truck twice a year because those f*#king tress drop sap then the cotton sticks...it's like tar and feathering my truck everyday. Also, the roots are coming up and part of my driveway has buckeled severely that it all has to be replaced.
Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep.
Actually they stop about the time the pine pollen starts up here. EVERYTHING will be yellow. [Rant1]

ok
not a lawyer, didn't stay a holiday inn express
your property has air rights straight up from your property line
typically branches that hang over can be removed without the other person's permission. (although you really should deal with it before hand)

Are these your trees? Or the neighbors? Big cottonwoods can bring bad juju, they tend to lose very large branches in storms that can damage houses, crush cars and fences, etc. Plus the root thing you already know about. They're great for shade, but they're not very sturdy trees and can cause you large grief. They really should be dealt with somehow, but at least make sure you're insured well to protect against "tree mayhem".

Nah...just a little one in our cul-de-sac near of Colfax and Tower. It was not real healthy, planted back in the 80s...probably 50 ft high...

It's right on the property line. My neighbor is actually waiting for my half to get these bastards removed. I absolutely hate them so as soon as I can I'll get the taken care of.
Are you going to cut them up for firewood Opie? I hear cottonwood is the most crappy of our available wood for burning, but whatever.

I'll probably have it all hauled off. If you want some, I'll let you know if/when they get cut down.
Well, just curious. Let me know if you remember, if not, no big deal. Good luck getting them cut down.
