What has anybody read about Flash Mobs?
I heard someone puts out a text for a couple dozen young guys to go to selected location, beat up and rob people.
Is this crap really going on?

I think a flash mob is a huge organized prank. I heard one had 50 people go to a Best Buy wearing blue polos and tan pants.[ROFL1]

that one was improv everywhere. They do some cool stuff. Not just flash mobs, but street acting, too.

Original flash mobs were harmless fun. Large groups that would blend into crowds and at a given time or signal would all start singing, or dancing, or something equally entertaining. Now it seems to be devolving to groups of punks committing crimes en masse, such as shoplifting mobs, robberies, etc.

Never heard of them being malicious. Knew someone who was the "victim" of one, they gathered near an ATM with instructions to wait until 1pm, and the first person to use the ATM after that everyone would cheer and applaud them. So my friend gets out his cash, turns around, and about 250 people were there and started cheering. After a second he just threw his hands up and did his best victorious boxer impression.

Anyone gone to a Zombie walk? Similar, a bunch of people show up dressed a zombies and amble across a park then disappear

Originally Flash mobs were things like the video posted above...

In Chicago ( you know the city that is so safe you don't even need to own a gun?) it has been used to refer to attacks on folks... black folks attacking whites basically exclusively ( how is this NOT a hate crime?? ) completely at random and in groups of 4 plus....

I've done zombie ones; fun stuff. I think it's just harmless fun that makes people around wonder what the hell is going on.

We did a couple giant pillow fights on Larimer Square once. That was fun to see

I think it might have been Improv Everywhere who selected an unknown local band who would only draw a tiny crowd of friends and family when they played, spent time learning some of their songs and turned up to one of their gigs en masse.

This was being filmed late last year when I arrived at Heathrow. Hot and tired after an 8 hour flight, it was great fun running over feet with my suitcase.

My only exposure is that flash mob commercial running on TV right now. I can't in my right or wrong mind picture a group of 20 or more people who would text each other and then take the time to devise and then practice some goofy routine, then take time off of work probably to meet at some place and then at a certain time, jump up- do the routine then "disappear" into the crowd. Unless they're all artsy-fartsy liberals. Then I understand. They're expressing themselves. Where's the puking Smilie when you need him?

That's not called a flash mob, that's called Wilding. Actually the Chicago Sun Times has addressed this misnomer (http://www.suntimes.com/news/roeper/5826624-417/rash-of-violence-isnt-flash-mobs-its-wilding.html).

I think you may be referencing a trend going on in Chicago. Groups of young kids converge enmasse to rob, beat and otherwise brutalize an unarmed populace. These kids are for the most part, coming from the south side of Chicago and creating mini riots in other areas of the city.

Great poster city for gun control...

My sister in law was a part of one last halloween where a bunch of zombies gathered together all at once and did MJ's thriller.

I'll disagree on this.

Wilding is a pack of thugs wandering around attacking people.

A flash mob is using phones to call a a bunch of separate people together in one spot, sometimes for bad reasons.

In an armed society, this sounds like an invitation to a mass suicide. The wilding thing happened just a few times in Denver before they picked the wrong victim (a Taekwondo instructor, if I recall) and a bunch of these punks got hurt. It was a lot less popular after that. [LOL]

Seriously, are these kids that stupid? Text 10 of your closest thugs (thereby creating a trail of evidence of premeditation), meet up at a predetermined location, and attack someone who has a significant chance of being armed? How f**king stupid can you be?
