View Full Version : Best Pd Ammo For Xdm 3.8 9mm?

And so I jumped on the XD bandwagon for my carry pistol needs...
A number of different reasons:ammo capacity, low cost (compared to others anyway) ,versatility, ammo capacity...
Now the question is: with the short-ish 3.8 barrel, which 9 mm ammo would you trust your life on?
I had 3 out of a box of 45acp gold dots go click on me and my confidence in "hi performance personal defense ammo" is somewhat shaken.
I don't feel I can trust with my life anything that I have not shot a lot, but I cannot spend hundred of dollars in researching things.
How much of it is it hype (compared to Wally World cheapo Remington hollow points)and how much is it going to make a difference in a life or death scenario?
Yeah, I know shot placement is king, and I think I have that covered, but all things being equal, what is your advice?

Here's what mine did with 10 rounds of RA9TA @ 15yds.

It's all I run in my 9's.

Also a nice option, from what I am told.
Haven't fired it, can't personally endorse it.... but I wouldn't discount it.

Pretty much the same tests I've personally performed with the same results. These, the 124g +p HST's, and 124g +p GDHP's were the only 9mm loads I tested that completely destroyed the first jug every time. The heavier 147g HST's, Ranger T's, and Remington's (Wally world HP's) would just poke holes. I had a couple Gold Dot's and Cor-Bon's (sierra slugs) fail to expand through denim so I dropped them as an option.

Plenty of great choices out there. I've been runnin' HSTs in all my SD handguns (.45 and .9mm) for some time, have both 124gr and 147gr on-hand and I prefer the 147's (P9HST2) in my 3" XD. Plenty of evidence that gives the 124gr products the nod but...I shoot well/comfortably with the 147's so...that's where I'm at (run both in my full-size Beretta as well).
