Tomorrow (Saturday June 18) from 10AM-1PM 5280 Armory (5420 Marshall Street Unit A, Arvada, CO) is having a huge event featuring Guns, cars and more! Manufacturers like SigArms, ADCOR, EOTech, and FN will be there showing off their product and the store will also be open. I'll be there to check out some of the stuff they've got and to hang out with the owners Matt and Gina- perhaps the coolest gun store owners I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Should be fun and there should be some cool stuff to check out.

Wow. A far cry from the days when you had to open a portal to another dimension to be able to even catch them when they're open. I may just stop by!

[LOL] True enough...

LOL, except they're open til 5 W-Sun.... at least I always catch them when they're open, and that's because their hours are posted on their Facebook page. What can I say? I'm an FB Whore.

back over the past few years though, there hours were far from consistent.

I personally have had a good experience there, but there are some people on here who have had terrible experiences, so I don't think I would shop there again..

I have had nothing but good experiences purchasing from these guys. They have been great over the phone saving me a trip down there. I may bring the car down tomorrow.

have never understood businesses like this that close at 5--people with regular jobs (any maybe money to spend) can't stop in after work on the way home, etc.

Matt and Gina- perhaps the coolest gun store owners I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

If that's the case maybe they should hire people that are more like them...the guys behind the counter have been total a-holes every time I've been there. I gave them a few chances, now I won't go back. Also, do they still charge extra for using a CC?

They still have the credit card thing, which is understandable, but I hate it, even though I use debit or cash every time anyways.

I tend to shop there a fair bit. They have been nothing but good to me in the past. At one point called me after close, to let me buy my gun after my back round check finished.

There prices aren't the best, and it seems like a place where you have to earn good treatment, which is crappy, but, once you get it, I like it. As to the guys behind the counter, at least most of them know their stuff, sadly this can be a rare commodity at gun stores.

I think this is funny, as a general rule, as "gun store guys" tend to treat the public like idiots, but they are far from gods generally, why just today I had to remind a store they had HK style sights mounted backwards on a display gun. <different store

All in all, I like it, not totally perfect, but find me a perfect gun store.

I'll be there for sure. Matt and Gina are good people.

I'm always surprised when people say they have bad experiences there. I have been a long time customer and have always been treated well. By Matt, Gina and all their employees. Their hours have always worked for me. They are open all weekend, which seems like it should accommodate most peoples schedule.

They earned my business unlike some other places.
Some days they are busy and a bit short, some days they will take me all around the store with my little .. ok, long.. shopping list. For the most part they do a good job IMO. Gina hunted down an item for me and the manufacturer is back ordered but she was able to get it from another store at less than suggested retail which was great for me.

As for prices, I saw a pistol they had, went to Bass Pro for some fishing stuff and saw the same pistol. $200 difference.
I like them and will continue to buy from them.

As usual, YMMV. I've tried to contact several people on the preferred vendors list yet they won't answer PM's, emails or phone calls yet other people swear they are the best in the business. [Dunno]

Never been. I thought they were farther north, but that is close enough to be doable...

In 2011 a shop, that has radio ads and large events such as these, charge extra for CC?

The girls are great, on the phone or in person. The guys behind the counter, can rank from really good, to dick heads. The credit card thing just pushes me over the edge.

I'm not saying I won't shop there but it's not the first place on my list. If they have something I need and I can only go on Sunday, I'll buy it. If it's any other day of the week, I'll look elsewhere.

your bank and all Merchants are going to start doing it soon...

Some already do it for Debit charges.
add that to the outrageous APRs and the banks are going to flop again and we will have to bail them out again.

I didn't mean any harm. I was only stating my experience which comes from a couple years ago, and for all I know they could be fantastic people. I just could never catch them when they were open [Tooth].

Had a good time there today. Friendly staff, lots of toys. Bought a few small things, wish I could've bought an STG-58. The cars out front were gorgeous.

Ya, good time. I really enjoyed getting the information right from the manufacturers there. I learned alot talking to the CZ guy. I got out of there only spending a hun. :)

Yeah, the CZ guy was very friendly and polite.

That piston AR was pretty interesting...

That was a slick setup. The price was not bad either.

Just speaking from experience about the credit card...

I just started taking them in my store a few months ago. They literally hit me between 2.8% and 3.5% on all transactions whether debit, credit, visa, mc, discover or amex. I could do what most do and raise all my prices and make even more profit when customers pay cash. I choose to simply add 3% when I accept cc to keep prices down for everyone and only those choosing to pay the fee get hit with it. I thought it was more fair for the customer this way rather than screwing everyone with a 3% price increase. I know cash/check cusomters aren't upset.

I'm not saying that's what Matt & Gina do but it is possible.

had a great time today. Glad I stopped by.

If any of you saw me, I was the dumb lookin kid with the black Bravo Company hat on, oggling the FN products inside the trailer, and the FAL's inside[LOL]

I really liked the new piston upper, and talked with the staff about various off-the-wall crap for a while.

I was wearing a black LaRue hat, a grey t-shirt with a mouse and a cube of cheese on it. I spent a few hours walking around with a couple sets of AR mag followers :P

I got to check out one of the new KRISS carbines there today, and I have to say, its a really trick little gun.

The bolt rides on a roller system that directs it back and down, kind of like a sideways L, which lets it be so compact.
And it takes glock 21 mags! pretty cool little thing, but I just cant justify the cost for something like that. Even still, theres absolutely nothing like it.

Ridge
06-18-2011, 23:29
Yeah, I played with the KRISS as well...would make a fun SBR. But the stock could afford to be a bit longer, IMO...

I didn't stay for long, played in the smith trailer. Looked at all the cars, spent time with the adcor defense guy. I think that piston set up is the best I have seen so far for an AR platform. Bought a B.A.D. lever and left before I broke myself. Lol

I've only had one experience there but was positive. I was over on the front range selling a couple of guns, and stopped in there because it was close. Being from the Western Slope where NO ONE carries any type of AR stuff except rifles (not even a PMAG), I was impressed. I bought a Mossberg 500 HD, BAD lever, low pro gas block, and a few other things. I was treated well; I asked alot of stupid questions and they were patient and polite. I would go back for sure, allthough I have nothing else to compare it to.......there is nothing on this side of the hill!

I've bought from them a few times. Always been treated very well. When I purchased 2 AR's a Sig 229 and a Kahr CW9, (not all the same day) they offered 3% discount for cash. I understand the margins are not great in retail operations and didn't mind. I'll keep shopping there. Wish I could have made it down yesterday.

I don't run a business but I am in sales. Although as a customer I think paying 3% extra for CC makes it awfully hard for me to make unplanned purchases. And I know business of all types, but especially gun stores, make A LOT on guys that didn't plan to buy anything when they walked in. Now, I normally don't carry hundreds (if any) in cash. So say I'm there looking around and see something I absolutely must have (don't kid yourselves, we all do it), no cash but I do have my debit card, I will most likely buy it on the spot. But if I have to leave the store, go find an ATM from my bank to get cash to save 3% I will most likely talk myself out of spending the money. And the store just lost my purchase. As a sales person I know that your chances of closing go way down if the buyer has time to mull things over...

3% CC fees do hit your bottom line but so does lost discretionary business...

Bought the wife's Sig there Yesterday.
While is wasn't exactly a spontaneous purchase, we didn't have the cash on hand at that second.... it was Sunday.
We had been shopping around a while, but we weren't walking around with a grand in my pocket "Just in case."

The staff was Great, Gina and Matt were very cordial and patient with my son running amok in her store while we waited for the BCI.

All in all we are happy with the purchase. I Completely get the 3% Charge and I am glad its only applied to people using a charge card.

Love 5280! Bought my AR there; at the old location. Looking to get a Bodyguard, for my concealed carry firearm.

My feelings on 5280 are in another thread. Feel free to search.

With online stores having better deals up front and then gouging the shipping, brick and mortars are having a hard time. I don't see charging more for CCs as a problem. A 2%-2.5% bump is not out of line. CCs cost the seller more, plain and simple.

Sounds like I missed a good time. Too bad I work weekends.
