I live with a family member, and last night I went out with a buddy. I got home around 2:30 in the morning to find our garage open. It was accidentally left open for about 4 hours. Seems that someone decided to rifle through the garage and steal a few things. The only thing missing was a fishing pole and 840 rounds of 5.56! I'm one pissed off camper, and now my ammo supply is light! I need to move!
That sucks man! Good thing 5.56 isnt that expensive. It could have been .308 or worse, 50bmg!!

That sucks. Time to get a locking cabinet for your ammunition and parts.

open garage is an invitation. Someone at the home is at fault for leaving it open. better some lost ammo than a ransacked dwelling. I see open garage and front doors around here daily, without the homeowner having a clue.

That really blows. Take care - now a criminal knows that you likely have a rifle to match the ammo...

Yep. Hope you have a gun safe.

No safe as of yet, so until I get one I think the rifles are being moved to another location. My buddy has some room in his safe for them. Only two pistols at present, one in a safe in the car, the other always on me. So hopefully they will not return. Though I'm kind of hoping they do while I'm home.
tonight you should leave the garage open, with the lights out and sit in the dark with a 12ga. maybe you will get lucky.
Too bad you didn't have a game camera to get pictures of the asshole(s)
or a booby trap,or a rottweiller. neighbors see anything? hope the bastard(s) get caught.

Put an AR over your shoulder and walk around your neighborhood with a sign that says GIVE IT BACK! Sorry to hear that man I'd be pissed.
Sorry to hear that your neighbors stole your stuff.

My imidiate neighbors wouldn't do that, and unfortunately nobody saw anything. I am going to hang out in the garage tonight for awhile and see if they attempt to do it again. And the game camera is a good idea, I might have to do that.

What part of Thornton do you live in?
put some super hot reloads out there, wait for them to return to steal again, watch the news and police blotter for the thief to appear. minus an eye.[Muaha]
Sorry to hear that. Sucks losing that much ammo, regardless of caliber. I hope you are able to get a gun safe soon. I went a long time without one, but now that I have one I don't know how I lived without it. Take care & best wishes. [Beer]

Sorry for your loss!
I woke last night at the sound of a loud bang. I thought some one broke a window in the sun room. I retrieved my CZ and walk around the house where everything was intact. I head another loud bang and a flash of light outside. Fireworks at 00:45. Neighbors. It's not even July yet!

I live in unincorporated Adams county actually. Just south of 88th just east of Washington.

Shouldn't have told him, he's a cop! ;)
I think I occasionally drive through your neighborhood. Do you ever eat at that Chubby's down the street?
You can always do what I did, automate my entire house - my garage door automatically closes for me and always sends me a text message when it's open - that and I have motion sensors in the garage to let me know when something is happening out there. I'm an addict with this stuff - automatic drapes, every light controlled by my computer - if the SHTF then my house is toast :).

What technology are you using to implement it? X10, ZigBee, custom controllers, power over ethernet? I'm still amazed at how houses are not designed as a system, not designed with any intelligence beyond the thermostat. I'd really love to design and build a custom home with all the goodies. I really want full monitoring and graphing.
H.
It's quite a mixed bag! I still have a few X10's around, but most of that kind of stuff is Insteon. Pretty much every switch and most every outlet is Insteon at this point.
You could control a house with a Labjack.
