View Full Version : Car alarm/window tint 1, bad guys 0.

At about 0230 last night my car alarm starts going off, my truck is right in front of my place. I live in a neighborhood that is made up of mostly townhouses, i figured it would wake up the whole place. As I try to wake up and realize what is going on, I hear car doors close and a car speed away. Look outside, nothing really looks out of place.
This morning I go outside to find a broken driver window, being held together by tint. Mother effers, probably some dumb kids, lucky I didn't come out the front door with my 870. I think we should revert back to the old days, you steal a horse(vehicle), you end up swinging from a tree. People just don't respect what others work hard for.

Stick a Claymore on the center console.
I recently broke a tinted window, and let me tell you, the tint saves you a LOT of mess.
Every time I break a window out, I end up going down to Foreign Used Auto parts and usually get a window + installation for around $100. Your car looks like a Ford, so maybe try calling Stadium Auto Parts first, then ask for recommendations from there.

That's why I have firearms.. to defend myself. Not to worry about criminal charges.

Thats why an 870 works well at a distance. May penitrate a little but not life threatening. Rock Salt really gets their attention like back in the good old days!

++10 !! Make my day law. I felt threatened, shot, and now what? I was protecting my Family, property and my life. Officer!

Damn right. Any attorney tries to press charges on me for defending myself and my property, I'll tell them what appendage they can suck...
Damn what is it with all the breakins lately kit is ridiculous

Not worth killing someone- even a piece of trash- over a vehicle. I think if you did, you'd wish you had stayed inside long before the ordeal ended.

I would only use my 870 if they came in my house, I have had a break-in, on the business end before, not something I want to be a part of again. My point being, there are several people I know that would have come out of their house with an 870. Not worth killing, with a shitty defense in court, don't think I would have won that one, if the case. But damn, maybe a couple broken legs or just chop off a hand, let the sh*t heads think about that.... Natural selection really needs to start working a little better.

Glad to read that your "level-head" would have prevailed.
Just because he ran outside with an 870 doesn't mean he'd kill anyone. Car thieves are cowards by default. They'd piss themselves and run.

So you're saying that if he or even you -or me-, ran outside to confront a would-be thief trying to break into our vehicle, we wouldn't be aiming the gun at the bad guy? Likely with our finger on the trigger? Safety off? You're in la-la land. You know what adrenaline is right?

I do know what that is.. I also know what disparity of force, and from the hole punched in his window looks like they were using a spring loaded nail thing (yeah I don't know wtf it's called but I know what it is). So multiple assailants, cause if they drove off in another vehicle.. well.. who was going to steal the car?
So multiple assailants.. at least one weapon.. thieves are cowards by default but let's not forget the stupidity of a group of them.

My comment was directed squarely at Irving. It is foolhardy to go out the door after any would-be thief if you are holding a gun in your hand. I don't think it- it just is. You go out the door at night with any type of gun in your hand after any thief and you become the assailant. If they come in, that's a whole 'nuther matter. There's just too much bravado being slung about here and I thought I would toss a reality grenade into the pit.

That's what my comment to the OP was about earlier- avoiding any criminal charges against HIM.

You aren't going out 'after' anyone. That would show intent and changes the game, but being prepared for SHTF while investigating a noise involving your property is another matter.
Remind me not to get you guys on a jury for me.. Next time I hear a noise outside I'm just going to call the cops.. I mean they'll be there before the bg finishes commiting a crime right?

That 's a good idea. As I said earlier- you go out the door of your home to confront (is that better?) someone busting the window of your car or truck- you're the assailant. I -might- go out, but not very far and only with my big mouth and a powerful Surefire. They'll take off and I won't take a chance on killing some goofball over the $200 car window.

Oh hell, maybe it's not a goofball- but the 14 year old kid who lives on the next block. Maybe the kid makes a silly move and your trigger finger jumps. The 14 year old is dead on the asphalt in front of your house in a big, spreading pool of blood, lights are coming on and people are coming out all around you. You're holding the gun. Nice job!! You've defended your property!![Bang]
P.S. Got bail money? Got a lawyer? You're about to be charged with a felony and lose all rights to own a gun for the rest of your life. You're also about to be a convicted felon. For the rest of your life. For a $200 car window.

Do you now work for 9news? Are you spinning the thief as an innocent victim?
To answer your question.. bail money.. check.. lawyer.. check..
Spin my own story.. check.
Little Johnny has recently joined a 'gang' because living in suburbia with a mother and father who work and think the TV is doing a fine job of raising him.. just wasn't doing it for him. He felt the need to be loved and accepted, and his 'thug' friends sure did seem to like him..
One night after mom and dad were asleep he leaves his home to meet up with his homies.. little did he know tonight was his initiation. You see, up till now it's pretty much just been 'little' crimes. Shop lifting, stealing smokes and liquor.. Tonight is a different story. Tonight they're staying in Johnny's hood.. Shit you think they steal in the bad neighborhoods? Suburbia is where the good shit is....
They even brought along a little surprise for Johnny.. in case they run into any trouble. Now Johnny has his hands on a 'piece', yeah he's holding that 'heat'.. he's seen the movies.. he knows you just point it and pull the trigger..
Since they're in Johnny's hood he knows where the 'hot' cars are.. Nice rims, nice stereo.. pawn shop here we come!
Johnny is on look-out as his homie attempts to bust into this NICE lookin truck.. gotta be something worth some money in it.. OH SHIT.. the alarms going off.. no lights come on in the house.. it's cool. Wait what's that.. someone shouting.. an old man standing on his porch.. yelling and waving a flashlight.. cops? oh shit he's gonna call the cops.. blast him.. smoke that fool..
Little Johnny at 14 knows what he's got to do.. he can't let down his family.. he can't be scared in front of his 'boys'. He pulls out that piece.. and starts to fire indiscriminately towards the flashlight.. bang bang bang till it goes click.. no more light.
Once the shooting stops... car tires screeching away.. you're laying on your back.. it's cold and wet under you.. broken glass everywhere.. must be from the windows above you.. your sons room. That window. The one he sleeps next to.. light fades to black as your wifes scream comes from your sons bedroom..
You attend your sons funeral.. in a wheelchair.. all because you thought a flashlight and a big mouth were enough to defend your property. [Bang]
There.. my story of what could possibly happen! I even used your 14 yr old kid from the next street over..
(yes I know that the punctuation is not correct) [NoEvil]

So, lets let anyone do whatever they want to our property and have no say in it? Just watch? Is that what you are saying? Yes, you can call the cops and wait till they get there long after the perp is gone, but how well does that work? This state and country is pussified. No wonder there are so many theifs out there, they know they have easy targets everywhere.

Hey monky, I would have your back. This country is getting weaker and more pathetic on a daily basis which is why my prison loving brother loves it so much. Most people are pussies, and unfortunately they make up most of the mass of the population, easy targest, easy to walk on, nothing to be afraid of. I mean seriously, a lot of people are almost arguing to make it easier for criminals to do shit.

I agree we should let everyone steal our shit, hell why not make it easier for them and start leaving everything unlocked? Why should they have to work to steal what we worked for to get? Maybe Texas is a better place to live [Beer]

Awww well thank you Spyder.. it's why I heart you.. and that no good for nothing Patrick...I digress.
I have a few shotguns. They're for home defense. The first round is a bean bag round. It then goes to 00 buck.. and finally slugs. Hopefully I never have to use those...
I have gone outside and confronted would be car thieves, with a shotgun pointed at them. There were 3 of them, + a driver in their mini-van (if only mom knew what her car was being used for)... The safety was off, my finger was in the ready (what kind of idiot runs w/ his finger on the trigger) I didn't shoot anyone.. intentionally or negligently. It wasn't my car, but god damn it i'd expect my neighbor to do the same for me.. if it were my house or my property..
As far as adrenaline goes.. I'm not sure how much experience you have with it sneakerd.. but it doesn't make you go insane and lose all motor function and mental control..

Monky- I'm really not trying to make any enemies here- nothing personal, I just have a different viewpoint. As far as adrenaline goes, I was involved in martial arts for some 25 years, taught for the last 10, until my right knee called it quits about 5 years ago. If it matters, my personal tally of "taking out the trash", is 2 pursegrabbers and 1 carjacker. All in broad daylight, didn't need a gun for any of it. The carjacker was about 5-6 years ago and I was interviewed by 9News. I'm glad your confrontation worked out in your favor. You and Spyder appear to be buds- so hopefully he will always have your back.
No I know you're not trying to make enemies. I've been involved with martial arts for some years myself.. took a bit of a hiatus, but I'm back at it.. no where near 25 years though.. Not old enough for that yet :)
It's the beauty of it all, we can have different view points. Then have a beer. (I'm having this white rascal stuff atm... it's a bit weird) But good in an odd way.
While I have been lucky to avoid any confrontations in the street, where actual force was needed, and not just the threat of force... it's why we train.
While I wouldn't want to have to confront the bad guys in this particular situation it probably would have been pretty cool if I could have peppered the getaway vehicle with buckshot as they left. [Shotg] [Coffee]

You do realize that you may be dealing with persons that have spent a majority or all of their adult lives in a combat zone, right?
I Don't mean to belittle your experiences but being shot at by people that REALLY want you dead everyday for years on end tends to give you a different perspective on things.
9 times out of 10, if you run out your door, a car thief will turn tail and run. That's the whole point. You're looking into this WAY too deep sneakerd.

Honestly, if I'm going to draw down on a shithead, I don't want to be wondering if it's bean bags or buckshot in the chamber. If u are on the business end, it's not gonna be pretty. I know alot of people that say " I want a shotgun to "rack" and scare the criminal"....sorry, I don't give that second chance.
I would also go outside with a collapsible baton and maybe CC, if the group come out with guns, I'll end it.

Most of the subjects that we discuss on here are funny, comments on guns, etc. But they also of course get serious. I am the 1st(?) to admit that at times I get mentally erect as like most of us I have strong views on certain subjects. Sometimes I just don't know when to shut up. Here and now I apologize for the past and the future and hope I will never piss anyone off for the rest of my life. However- you know what they say- no blood, no foul. [Muaha]
You know what else 'they' say?
Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
