Kenneth Melson, acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, is expected to resign under pressure, perhaps in the next day or two, in the wake of the controversy over Operation Fast and Furious, two senior federal law enforcement sources said Monday.
In the operation, straw buyers were allowed to purchase illegally large numbers of weapons, some of which ended up in the hands of cartels in Mexico.

Well looks like Obama and Holder are listening to Rahm and not letting a good crisis go to waste.
Now they can get rid of moderately anti-gun Bush appointed Kenneth Melson and replace him with super anti-gun zealot; Andrew Traver.

Good. Just another black eye for Obama's hacks. Oh wait, he was appointed by Bush? Oh well.
A quick search on Andrew Traver will easily reveal how bad he could be for 2nd Amendment issues. Plus he is another Chicago anti-gun guy, so he will fit right in with the President and his administration.
This script sounds like it was written a few years ago and a little patience is paying off.
Just like people called it. Some high ranking guy completely unrelated to the event will fall on the sword, the people who did this will carry on like nothing happened.

If Traver is confirmed our 2A rights are under real jeopardy. Look him up, he very strongly feels only LEO and Military are entitled to own firearms. Falsified media reports, paid speaker to a anti 2A police convention.
Wonderful......................................... .................

Agree with Ridge. This guy appears to be forced to take the heat. He probably had little to do with the decision to implement the policy- but who really knows? We will never know the truth.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Andrew Traver wasn't one of the folk that came up with the whole "Fast and Furious" project to begin with.

Actually-according to Fox news tonight, Melsen was all over the op. Involved up to his neck.

Yep.
Attorney General Eric Holder will meet Tuesday with Andrew Traver, head of the ATF field office in Chicago, about possibly becoming the agency's acting director

Fast and Furious isn't about ineptitude of one or two senior career law enforcement officials at the BATFE. Way too many "smart" people signed off on this program – including top people at the highest levels of DOJ, DHS and State. This crime against Mexico was committed by federal authorities. It was done to buttress the Obama admin's case for reinstating the failed Clinton gun bans and for enacting all sorts of new gun control. It was intended to plant hard, traceable evidence at gruesome crime scenes so they could use it as political capital against the NRA and other gun rights groups.
If it wasn't for a couple of courageous ATF whistleblowers, they would have gotten away with it. Instead, these progressives are in full CYA mode. They're actively obstructing a congressional investigation.
It must have been painful for them to watch to the Issa hearings on CSPAN. ATF field agents testified on the record how gun dealers were concerned and proactively contacted ATF over these straw purchases. This sure didn't fit the liberal stereotype of the greedy, evil gun dealer willing to sell dangerous weapons to anyone with a bag of money and a pickup truck. In fact, one of the agents called the gun dealers the "good guys" in this story and praised their cooperation with law enforcement.
Anyone really think this was confined to just the Phoenix sector?
Now with the rest of the LSM finally noticing the scandal, it's time to put up a fall guy. Melson was to retire anyhow as soon as the Senate approved Traver as Director or Obama installed him in a recess appointment.
It's a win-win for Obama The guilty fade back into the woodwork and he gets vehemently anti-gun Traver in the big seat. If you think for one moment that Traver wasn't read into Fast and Furious and completely on board with the program, you don't know a damn thing about how that rogue agency works.

I think I sure called this one ..... bout 11 days ago ...
You know what will come of this ???
NOTHING... absolutely nothing.
Someone up in the food chain at the ATF.. close to retirement anyways will fall on the sword.... they will get fired.. a few others will get bad marks in their jackets.. but it won't hurt their careers.....
the media will be satisfied and it will all just " go away"
Sounds to me like some big money savings could be had for tax payers by shutting the batfe down.

But then who would prevent all those cancer deaths from cigarettes, drunk driving accidents, and out of control gun violence? The US would be like the Wild, Wild West (that we apparently didn't survive) all over again!

Wild west sounds like my dream world compared to the crap these people have forced upon us.

I was looking for a way to work Will Smith into the joke. Thanks for picking up the slack for me. [ROFL1]

+1, couldn't agree more.
Sounds to me like Obama is in the kitchen cooking up a big s*** sandwich and everyone who loves and supports 2A, the NRA, Ted Nugent, etc. is going to have to take a big bite. You can just image the ear to ear grin on Barry's face when Traver is a shoe-in for the job. The wild west would be a welcome change, but we will never go back to a time where gentlemen settled disputes at high noon in downtown.
Too bad we can't get Obeyme to take early retirement and spend his golden years on a golf course.
The loser has spent 11 weekends in a row golfing and has hit the links 73 times since becoming our fearless leader.
Pathetic. Sad. Wish he would start smoking again.
Every day he is in office is a day I find it impossible for me to quit smoking. The sound of his voice triggers these fits of rage that ends in me saying "...from my cold, dead hands!"
