I recently built my first AR and have quickly realized that the charging handle is a weak link for someone with hands my size.
From the research that I've done, the BCM solution is the best out there. Is that the case?

I got a larger tac latch model because of my paddles and my optics.
Go see mike at Bowers tactical... good selection, good prices.
its where I got mine
Yeah I got mine at Bowers also, I got the medium one. Once I added the Acog I realized I needed something better than the stop CH do to the short eye relief of the Acog.
The only thing that takes some getting used to is it will pinch you much easier than a standard charging handle. I used my new BCM gunfighter this weekend for the first time on my beater rifle (http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41372) and realized it would bite me if I didnt grab it right.
Other than that I love it

BCM large for me. Best there is.
I got the large one for my .308 I think it is awesome because the action is a bit tight and the extra leverage is nice thing to have.
Ohh and care to post a pic of your '71 Chevy? I have a '71 C20 as a project. not far along though.

Mine should be here soon in large.
The '71 Chevy is currently a disorganized mess in a storage unit for the time being. I've got 15 years before my kid starts driving and I have to worry about it being done.

Pickup? Chevelle?
The cab-forward is out in my driveway... The bed minus the wood which i'm going to re-fabricate is in my 1 car garage. omgosh it is hard working in a one car garage.

OK- I finally broke down & ordered the Gunfighter (medium). I'll put it on my SHTF Spikes M4LE & have one less part to worry about breaking. WB

You are definately going to like the extra leverage it provides.

BCM #4s are the only charging handles in our carbines...

I've got larges and mediums on all my rifles here at home and over seas. The mediums are great for day to day. I put a large in if I'm wearing gloves that limit dexterity.
They're the best thing going, hands down.

I want one, but I put a Badger Tac-Latch on my rifle a few weeks ago, and it's been running fine for me so far. Anyone have any issues with the Badger latch binding/failing/tearing up the charging handle/anything of that nature? I haven't so far, but I've only had it out to the range twice. And done manipulation drills with it over and over.

I'd have my charging handle by now if Brownell's would accept my Gearhog certificate.

Alright, figured out that I'm retarded and was able to order it. I'll give a terrible, one sentence review of the charging handle prior to installing it but certainly after I receive it.

I went with the large. Holy god it's amazing. The ability to manipulate the charging handle is exponentially easier with the Gunfighter Charging handle than with a stock version.
If you're an AR newb, like myself, you owe it to yourself to pick one up.
Almost makes you wonder why they're not standard...

Mod 4 is fantastic. As an aside, the LMT Enhanced CH is a viable option to the BCM GF and runs around $20. I got a few with my LMT rifles and do like them, but I prefer the BCM.
My buddies rifle has the Mod 4 and loves it - I was gonna pick one of those up, then did some extensive research to see what else was out there and found this gem - the Rainier Arms Raptor Ambi charge handle - http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=3172
Loving it, feels so solid. It's a tad heavier than the BCM, a little more spendy, and fairly new to the market, but it's awesome. BCMs are rock solid and obviously wonderful handles, but this Rainier Arms one is pretty great, and one to consider if you are a lefty or practice lefty sometimes. Even if you don't need an ambi handle, this thing just feels great.
Some people think it looks a little weird, but I'm in love with the looks, which was honestly what brought my attention to it in the first place.

Damn it, this thread was over a year old and had nothing but BCM love in it and you guys have to go screw it up.
But seriously, the Rainier option looks pretty slick.

For $90 I'll pass or buy 2 BCM's. I am a righty though...

If it isn't Mod 4 it just isn't right for me. +1 BCM

The Mod 4 is tits. Once you touch one you will not want to go back to the standard style. It is the first thing I change when I get an AR.

I have a BCM Mod 4 on one of my ARs and I just bought a TacLatch to put on a new build so i can compare. If I remember, I'll post an update on which one I like better once I get it installed.
