View Full Version : Liberty Fat Boy 64 safes
Anybody have a Liberty Fat Boy 64 gun safe? Any opinions out there? I really need a decent larger safe, and I'm thinking of one of these....right size and price range. The pistol/accessory panel for the door rocks too. So I'm looking for info.....

I have the liberty Franklin 50. which has the same dimensions, except mine is a foot taller. mine has the door panel as well. they wont hold anywhere near the listed amount. unless none of your guns have scopes. basically they will fit 64 winchester model 94 rifles. I like mine, but it is what it is. I could cut a hole in the side with an ax or sawsall in about a second. But, for the price and size its not bad. Its not a safe by any means. Your guns are not truly safe in it. If someone wants them they will be gone. But the price difference between this safe and a TL15 or TL30 is a huge jump, so this maybe the best most of us can afford.
I like the door panel too. it fills up quick, just like the rest of the safe.

I thought Liberty where some of the best safes on the market?

the thing is...they arent real safes. even they list them on the serial plate as Residential Security Container. they are not safes according to underwriters labratories. they are super thin sheet metal. that can be easily cut or punctured. so, are they better than nothing? sure. are they a real safe, like a TL15 or TL30 safe? no.
watch this.

again, im not knocking the safe, i have one. i just wish i could afford a real one right now.
also, by lagging your safe to the floor and position the door, opening side to the wall. it would make it much more difficult to pry open. but, still easy with power tools. which we all have in our homes probably.

so are you saying that Liberty are really junk safes?

I know this guy... works in the security arena
Does Bank vaults and safes, etc
told me once, Safes aren't invulnerable they are all just deterrents.
I have a Liberty Centurion Lagged to the floor
Keeps my kid out of em, I feel better leaving the house knowing they are locked up in there. Can someone get in? Yes Can someone get into a TL-15 or 30? Yes. Only differing degrees of security theater.
The only other advice I would have for you is to go up to the Franklin series at least, and BOLTS BOLTS BOLTS!
The more live bolts the better.
Not the right dimensions but it's a SAFE!

well if you want, we can get Opie and crew to build a 2.5 Million Dollar Vault for you...
the thing is, the only time your guns are truly safe is never.
There is always a way to get at them and steal them.
where there is a will there is a way. we can play whatif until we are blue.
best way I can say it is this:
Find a comfortable balance between reasonable security and your budget, find a way to sleep with that.
Yes I Could have spent 8-60 grand on a TL... but do I need that much? no.

I was looking at the Fat Boy 64 safe/lock box. Looks nice for what it is. Does anyone, along the front range, sell them?
I looked at the Liberties, and they are good security for the money. I ended up with a Cannon, mostly because the wife found a really good deal on it, and it was the right color(so SHE said [LOL]). Does it proved absolute security? No. Does it provide adequate security? Yes. I have it in a corner, bolted to both walls into studs, and into the floor joists as well. If someone had time and tools, they could probably get into it, but the casual smash-n-grab thief is gonna look at it like a peacock looks at an algebra problem...plus it provides some protection in the event of a fire.

this is why I currently have the Liberty safe. It was affordable and adequate. (well $2100 isnt exactly affordable) but cheaper than some.
that safe was on sale last black friday... i'd wait for a good price and every safe can be opened if the BG has the right tools.

you can also hit the website at http://www.libertysafe.com/finddealer.php and find a retailer near you
Yeah, I know it's not a "real safe" and just an RSC, but that's really all there is unless you're loaded with dough. If I had that kind of dough I'd just move into a better, more secure place. I'm not terribly worried about theft.....like y'all said, if a thief wants them, he'll get them.
My main concern is getting all my stuff up out of the basement and into a reasonably secure container in the garage. I'm getting too damn old to schlep alla my crap up and down the stairs whenever I want to go shooting, it needs to be where I can use it. But I need it to at least keep the teenagers out and deter any casual thieving turds. I plan on building a wooden cabinet around whatever RSC I get to "disguise" it.
I do like the tip about the Franklin, thanks! That's one thing I don't like about the FatBoy, it's too short. But I do need the wide and shallow dimensions, and taller would be awesome.

They have these safes for sale all the time. They have several on display (not positive about the Fat Boy).

Do you remember what it was going for? I'm also interested in this model, and wondering how current prices are comparing to a "black friday" price...
Gander Mountain currently has the FatBoy on sale for $1699, I think it is. After a mail-in rebate that is. Probably not the best price there is, it's Gander Mountain after all. HBARleatherneck gave me the name of the dealer he got his from, I'll have to call him.
I'm also interested in Champions and Superiors, Found a place called Colorado Safe Outlet that has them, but haven't connected on the phone yet.
I'm actually jumping the gun here, I can't buy anything like this until I shovel out the space in the garage for it and get some insulating/drywalling done where it's going to sit. And I have to build some shelves for about 2000lbs. of ammo cans. [Tooth]

I still like Zanotti Armor since they are modular. They're probably about the same or marginally better than the Liberty safes. Being modular you can move them without help and you can get them into tight spaces. Someone with the proper tools and some time could break into them but all these are designed to do is be massively inconvenient for your basic burglar. I did some bolting into the floor and wall since the back is the weakest part. I also have lots of lead under the floors.

Well... I have had several folks actually BUY Liberty safes from this guy...
Mark 719-207-1444
Mention that Robert referred you...
I bought a Lincoln 35, my buddy at work bought the same.. my neighbor bought a small safe from him and another guy across the way bought from him too..
Also - some members of the forum have bought from him...
Is that an endorsement?
I'd say yes.
At least call and check his price... :-)

odd, I talked to him and he seemed... "Less than interested" in selling me a safe
Looks like I need to step into the residential game and hook some members up here.
Its better than a Stack on!
check out costco. they have plenty of decent quality safes and some higher quality ones as well, all sizes and all price ranges. I have bought 2 from them and been very happy with them.
free shipping to your curb then you get it in from there.

Online though, they still have some decent safes!
After PM'ing with HBAR and talking with Mark, I'ma thinking the Franklin 50 be the one for me. Same width and depth, but a foot taller. I'd much rather buy from Mark than Gander, he'll deliver and bolt it down. I can't rassle no big damn steel box by myself, the little Stack-On I have nearly ate my lunch.
Oh, FWIW...Mark told me his operation is in limbo temporarily and he's working out of a storage unit, but his new building should be finished very soon and he'll have a shiny new operation! And he's expecting a big shipment around the same time. I'm smelling me a road trip to Buena Vista in August!
