I've debated whether to put this up & possibly look like a total idiot & get some opinions on an idea or...

Obviously the "or" isn't important now.

Is it possible to pull the bullet from a 22LR and place a 22 cal V-MAX 40 gr bullet in its place? & do you think it will enhance accuracy & knock down power.

The 40 gr V-MAX is a BT with a ballistic coefficient of 0.200
The flat base 35gr has a bal coe. of just .109. I assume 22LR bullets are worse than this.
So, I'm thinking the 40 gr should fly flatter & lose less velocity. Is this a valid assumption?
Wikipedia says a 22LR bullet should .222" diameter, the V-Max is .224 dia. Problem?
OA length may be an issue. Hornady doesn't show the bullet's length. Might be too long depending how far the V-MAX can be inserted into the case. This could be a show stopper.
Will the V-MAX expand at 22LR velocities?
THE BIGGY - how can I SAFELY get the V-MAX into the casing?Yeah, it's probably a stupid idea based just on the last bullet. But it's in my head and won't go away now...

But, what are your thoughts?

Anyone have a few 40gr 22 cal bullets I can get to see if this feasible?

Thanks.

Not a good idea for anything tube fed.

Try it.

Try it.

Don't, please.

Why not just buy 40gn .22lr ammo?

Wont work.

22 Mag and 22LR use different bullet diameters.

And the paper thin brass of a 22 case wont hold much pressure. And trying to force a too big jacketed bullet down a barrel will be bad.

Even if you could get the bullets seated in the case, chances are they would bulge the case mouth and prevent the gun from going fully into battery. Firing it like that would be almost certain to cause a case rupture. Also, the .224 bullets are most likely not going to perform well at .22LR velocities (~1100 fps). Even .22 Hornet loads are gonna be over 2000 fps.

What kind of yardage are you looking for? Im looking at after market sights.

Ah, they dont make these for the gun I want, still looking though.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like this won't be happening.

I was thinking the V-MAX 40gr would have a flatter trajectory and retain its speed better than standard .22 40gr bullets because of the boattail design and higher ballistic coefficient. Looking to reach out a little further and maybe use a 22 for p dogs.
