I have the chance to pick up a Ruger m77 300 win mag with a 3x9 redfield scope for 300 bucks.

Made in 1976 what do you guys think

I think you can get a brand new remington 700 in 300 winmag with a 3 x 9 scope for $400 at Sportsmans warehouse. I think that's the normal price. It was a few months ago.

Yeah I though you could get a brand new one. It would just be another hunting rifle

As long as you don't have uneven wear on the locking lugs, and no obvious bubba gunsmithing to it... why not? Most hunting rifles barely get shot, particularly magnums.

I will always be an advocate of the Remington 700, but their entry level rifles these days are really disappointing. If you're going to do it, spend the money on a BDL or Sendero. Breaks my heart to say it, but if you're staying in the lower price bracket and want something new, look at Savage.

+1 on Savage. Being that it is made in 1976, I would think it would be a pretty good rifle, and a good deal. How old is the scope? Is it an original Redfield or a new Leupold owned one.
