After reading this article (http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/26/florida.tsa.incident/index.html?hpt=hp_t1), I'm saying no. This is an absolute disgrace and clearly demonstrates an abuse of power.
The Transportation Security Administration stood by its security officers Sunday after a Florida woman complained that her cancer-stricken, 95-year-old mother was patted down and forced to remove her adult diaper while going through security.

I have yet to see anything the tsa has done to prevent any real crime
Not one so called terrorist stopped, no hijackings stopped,no drug smuggling-or anything else stopped[Bang]
The only thing I've seen stopped IS there common sense
Acomplete and utter waste of funds!!![Rant1]

That's not their purpose.
The purpose of the TSA is to get Americans used to being treated like Soviets. First they were in airports, now they're coming to bus depots ... soon they will be showing up at large events like state fairs and concerts.

Remember, just like the military, the TSA workers have superiors , policies and proceedures that they must obey and follow no matter how stupid they may be.
Common sense has no place there.
I read the title and just have to say that TSA has some of the most worthless employees on the planet. their behind the scenes people are usually very smart and educated people, but the ones on the front lines that the general public see are probably lucky to have a GED. I absolutely despise the TSA. From an insiders perspective they do damn near nothing. Just another way everyone has given up their rights to have a feel good about being safer.
If a lot of these these people weren't employed by the .gov they would be living off welfare or worse. They do have some good people who needed a job, and they are restricted by the ridiculous restrictions placed upon them by the agency.
Anyone who says they feel safer thanks to the TSA is being spoon fed a massive scoop of bullshit.

and the people that screw up always blame them instead of taking responsibility.

My buddy works @ DIA as a baggage handler. He said that TSA is a 100% JOKE!!! While we, honest paying passengers, are required to submit to the most invasive searches, the Somali cleaning crews that are contracted to clean the planes at night once parked at the gates AREN'T SCREENED FOR SHIT!!! They could plant anything on any plane, bomb, gun, drugs, etc and nobody wouldn't know anything about it.
TSA = 1 big f'ing joke
They're the reason while I'll look into driving almost anywhere before flying these days.
THis is why I am saving my money to purchase a gulfstream G3xx series jet. :D
TSA are failed Walmart employees!
I fly a lot and for the most part I'd say they're power crazy rude idiots.
I realize there are some good ones but they're definately out numbered.
I tell my kids that they won't get a decent job if they don't work hard at school and will end up at Walmart, I may change that to the TSA.
Hiring to the lowest common denominator......

Funny you mention malls, my buddy's brother works a LEO up in Nebraska and although it's not expressly written, they don't hire former TSA employees. When asked he said it's because "We're not running a 1930s/40s German Paramilitary org here."
I don't know about you guys but I've never seen a man, between 18-40, of possible Middle Eastern decent, ever look at the security station and step out of line to throw his box cutter and C-4 into nearby trash. I don't think it's because of the TSA discouraging that, I'd firmly put my money on the fact that they don't want another failed attack like Shanksville, PA- we fight back Ahmed!

^ This is probably why we haven't had a huge wave of attacks (old article but still true today) via US Airlines.
One researcher from a D.C. think tank I met some time ago- can't remember which one- said that he thinks we haven't seen many terror attacks because the bigger target is our troops in a more easily accessible environment (IE: Afghanistan/Iraq)...

And those pilots are all volunteers. They do it on their own time with their own money without compensation from the government or their airline. Personal time os used to receive the training. That is covered but they have to get themselves there and cover food. Only 1 issue since the program started that a pilot screwed up and shot a hole outthe side of the cockpit. Mostly from not following procedures but also from the crappy lock system they use for the holsters.
.
Sniper, I know, but it's a good idea to have trained, gun carrying people on flights, because they can't put a federal air marshal on every single plane, and with this number increasing it kinda says carry whatever you want on a plane, but if you cause trouble and the co-pilot pops you with a .45 to the face, don't say we didn't warn you. I have a few friends who are pilots with major airlines and they went through and did this so they can have a gun on the plane- then again, all but one are former AF combat aviators and have had a little more than just a weekend course on how to shoot a pistol.

Well, they might have given the old lady a tough time, but they DID let this clown through:

I'll give the same warning here as I've given in other places: THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU JUST CAN'T UN-SEE!
I'll provide this http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/dklistul/Funnies/JohnsonsEyeBleach.png just in case you guys need it.

I would rather lose my home, go hungry and beg for money on a street corner with a sign than work for TSA.
Anyone who works for TSA has no self-esteem whatsoever. TSA employees have no redeeming qualities. Zero. TSA is absolutely worthless as a government agency. They have done nothing...nothing...to make travel safer. Their sole purpose in life is making travel miserable for honest Americans.
I can't stand the TSA and I'd rather take my chances with Muslim terrorists than deal with any of those asshats.
My son recently left for Afghanistan out of the CO Springs airport. Yeah...the same airport that shares runways with Peterson AFB. The same airport as most of the Carson guys leave from. So I feel pretty safe in assuming lots of military guys with issued weapons go through that airport on a weekly basis.
As the guys in Kyle's unit were checking their rifle/gun cases, containing an assortment of guns including M4 rifles, M9 pistols and a few others, the TSA agent apparently in charge made a big fuss out of making sure everyone knew the rifle cases had to be x-rayed for weapons. This was after she watched the member's of my son's unit open their individual cases and check the serial numbers of the guns to make sure everything was accounted for. WTF???
They're gun cases you f**king moron. You watched the guys open them and check their guns. What do you think the x-rays are gonna reveal?
So, the answer to the original question is a resounding, "Not only NO...but f**k no!"

Small problem with the whole large groups of uniformed military carrying lots of guns... Ammo isn't issued until they arrive in country, but SHHHH! The terrorists don't know that!
TSA is about as useful as an ice maker in Antarctica. I even know of a cop, while in civvies but with badge and ID ready to display to security, was still hassled by TSA on his way to a conference for carrying his pistol. He's a friggin' cop! TSA=Retard with authority.

Large problem with TSA being a bunch of f**king morons.
Even bigger problem with putting TSA in charge of "making our flights 'safer'".
If it wasn't a felony to spit on a TSA employee, I'd board the plane with a sever case of cotton mouth every time I flew.

In Chicago I had the pleasure of seeing a TSA screener with 1 eye (that's correct 1 eye!)
You can have 1 leg and 1 arm and do this job; but 1 freakin' eye! wtf?[Help]

My step kid is a deputy sheriff that often does out of state extraditions. TSA has hassled him WHILE he and another deputy were transporting a prisoner, with all the appropriate paperwork...
This is what happens when the disconnected assholes that we elected respond to a perceived crisis with the attitude of "THERE IS NO TIME FOR RATIONAL THOUGHT!!!!!! WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!!!!". They addressed the shortcomings of the previous privatized security by creating a huge bureaucracy composed of the people that failed the hiring requirements of the previous private contractor. Has anyone else noticed that most of the visible TSA employees at the airport appear to be helping to balance the airports EEOC stats?
I just got back from TN. Standing in the "security" line (for the second time) this morning, there was a TSA agent randomly wanding backpack handles. As usual, the old and people with kids were in the extra security lines.
Where is the money going? The TSA is well funded and gets what they want with very little push back. Who's making the money?
