Well today I bought a 88 Bronco for a good price but I need some help. It has no brakes so I need to get it towed to my house.

If anyone of you know a good cheap company that would be awesome.

Or if you can tow it for me, I can buy you lunch and a 6 pack of your favorite beer. Or we can come up with some other deal.

It is only about a 12 mile tow.

Thanks.

Can the brakes be fixed at the current site?

It is most likely the master cylinder went out or the left rear wheel cylinder went out.

It wont be a simple tow strap tow the pulled vehicle is the one that slows down both. So a car doll is really needed. I do not have access to a dolly anymore or i would get er done for you.

Contact blackford, I bet he has a Master that will work. Or if it's the left rear, just crimp the brake line off to get it home.

I know that. I have towed cars before with a tow rope.

I can get a brand new master for ~$12 at my work.

I've moved brakeless cars with tow bars before. The triangular kind. Fastens to two points on the dead car, one point on the tow vehicle. Not as good as a dolly or trailer but works if you don't have to negotiate rush-hour traffic and can take it easy. Just make sure the tow vehicle is up to it with GOOD brakes that can handle the added mass.

Don't suppose you have AAA coverage, do you? They'd move it for you.

No AAA here.

I got rid of my AAA coverage, or I'd square you away. Sorry, man. I had a similar issue with an 85 Bronco as soon as I bought it.

I've got a buddy that has a car trailer. But he's out of town untill Saturday. If you can't find any thing before then let me know and I'll ask him if I can use it.

Does anyone know about Bobs Towing on south federal? They gave me an estimate of about $80 to tow it to my house. Is that a good price?

During regular hours (not 3:00 am during a blizzard on Cinco De Mayo) most tow places charge between $3-$7 per mile, with something like a $50-$75 charge just to hook the vehicle up to the truck. I'd say that's a good deal. Will it be a flat bed or a combo truck?

cheapest way to go is to find one "off the books."
that does have risks of its own though.

Well I don't know what kind of hook up they would use but I'm sure it will be a flat bed.

Also, here is the Bronco. Not bad if you ask me.

tool rental shops around town have the car dollies to rent. Usually about $50 for 24 hours. Have used them many times for situations like this. Lakewood Rentals has them I know.

80 bucks for a 12 mile hook is a good deal. Most tow companies charge 75.00 just to hook it, and then 3-5 bucks per mile after that.
Bobs is a clean and reputable company, they have been around a looong time. I know, I drove for them for a while in a past life.
You might be able to find a dolly rental for a bit cheaper but when you add your time, gas and aggravation of loading and towing I would gladly pay the 80 bucks to let them transport it for you.
Been there, done that too many times and I recall many times towing vehicles that people tried to dolly/trailer and something went awry and they had to call a hook. Cost them twice as much in the end.
Pay to Hook it and Book it.

Well I got the Bronco home all safe and sound, only $80 even.

Also, the master brake cylinder was dead but I still had no brakes. So I took off the front left wheel and found this

That 'splains it. Any hint on what caused the failure? That brake pad is in a position that it shouldn't be; something caused it to move there.

Looks like you need a new caliper. Probably want to do both, or at least rebuild the other side. If it were mine, I'd replace or rebuild the master cylinder and rear brake cylinders, as well. And look over the other caliper very closely if you don't rebuild or replace it.

New flexible lines at each front wheel and at the rear axle would also be a good investment. Who knows how long the system has been out of brake fluid and is rotted/corroded.

Mac's probably has all of the pre-bent brake lines, too, if you need 'em.

I'm planing on replace all the brake pads nad shoes. Rear wheel cylinders, already replaced the master cylinder. And I get new/reman parts super cheap. Basically at cost.

There was some pad left but very, very, very little. The rotor is in good shape some how but I'm going to see how much new ones are.

Hey, does anyone know besides a junkyard where I can find a replacement hard line brake line? Not the flex hose/line but the one that goes from the proportional valve to the wheel.

I need the passenger front wheel line.

Summitracing.com?

Otherwise, I'd call Stadium Auto parts.
