Hmmm, ViewSonic are low end. I voted for the one from best buy because it's a good name brand item, it has the best contrast ratio, is priced as well as the others, can be looked at first, and will be easier to return if you're not happy with it. Karl.

The one from best buy is widescreen (16:9) but still just 1280x1024. At least according to best buy's website (the samsung site didn't say). If this is true, you'll have horizontally stretched stuff. Bad JUJU. However, I'd be far more inclined to believe incompetence on bb's part than samsung's, and guess that it's normal (4:3) ratio.
As much as I love newegg, the 931BF does look to be a slightly better monitor at the same price (only major difference is the contrast ratio, but I'm wondering how they get 2000:1).
If I had to chose from the newegg offerings, the BenQ and Samsung are identical on paper and the BenQ is $30 cheaper, so I'd go for that. The Viewsonic doesn't look quite as good (lower brightness and contrast) and is more expensive.
ETA: don't forget to factor in sales tax when figuring your BestBuy price vs neweggs w/shipping (8.45-8.65% depending on JeffCO/adams, You pay ~$293)

didnt even think about that
Hrmm i have a veiwsonic, not exactly that model but it has served me very well, it arrived with no dead pixles and to this day has none... i cant say the same about some of the other stuff out there. I got a Sony monitor came with 3 discouloured pixles, and since it was only 3 they wouldnt replace it so i just made sure they'd take it back
But naw my vote goes for viewsonic hands down. My sister works in modelling for making games and thats the brand she uses.

As far as returns go, Newegg's RMA policy is good and their dead pixel policy is stated on the LCD pages pretty clearly. I bought a stick of ram from them about a year and a half ago that was DOA (well, it worked below a certan threshold, but memtest86 showed consistent errors in an address range about halfway through the stick). I worked at comcast at the time and once the RMA was approved (<24h I think) I threw the ram back in the box and payed the mailroom to ship it back to newegg. they sent a new stick the same day they recieved it and that one's still humming to this day.

I can't speak for customer service from newegg since all that I have ever bought from them has always worked. Then again, that's a good thing. I still prefer to shop brick and mortar when the price is close. I like being able to return things fast when they are 'dead in box' from the store. I do agree that the 2000:1 cotrast ratio seems a little hard to believe in comparison to the others. It could be a misprint. But from what I have no clue. I'd do a little more research on that issue before forked over $$$'s. Karl.

ya thats the only reason i havent ordered one yet if i get some dead pixiels its gonna cost me that much anyway, after i have to ship it back. Im fine ordering anything else from them i built the rest of my comp from parts i ordered from them. Its just i dont no if it would be such a good idea with a monitor. I looked it up on on samsung and it said it was
Contrast Ratio (Typical, Dynamic): 700:1, 2000:1
I am just gonna go run over there and look at it today and see if i can play with it a bit see if its what i want.
Dead pixels aren't as common or easy to recognize as online reviews would have you think. If you read enough reviews then you'll probably think that a dead pixel means that you're going to have a glaringly obvious hole in your screen or something. The guys that catch them usually use programs that wash their entire screen with one color at a time. Then they scour their monitor with a fine tooth comb. They're almost ecstatic when they find one because then they can go post a negative review or bitch to someone which proves their l33tness or something. That doesn't mean that if you get a dead pixel that it won't be easy to spot but it'll probably resemble a tiny speck of dust. That's why Newegg doesn't accept returns if you do happen to get a monitor with one dead pixel. Honestly, I'd trust the quality of anything that has 123 reviews on Newegg and still retains a 5 star rating. I bought a cheapo Hyvision 17" LCD 6 months ago from Newegg and I love the thing. Save some money and get the Benq.
Well I'm a ViewSonic fan.. I've deployed thousands of their monitors, had two of their first gen. flats back in the late 90's and both are still going strong. Samsung... well if you're all about supporting Korea then cool. It's a better brand than Benq ..
All said and told I trust ViewSonic, and as with most anything, but especially in computers, you get what you pay for.

We have some beautiful viewsonics at work and I've always liked them (heck, I bought one for the now-ex-wife).
My recommendation was based soley on the numbers. The viewsonc has a slightly lower brightness and contrast, and for the same price the Samsung on newegg is just a smidge better (on paper, at least).
As for supporting Korea.... Most electronics come from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, or China anyway, and I'd rather support Korea or Taiwan than China.
Besides, there's only 4 LCD panel manufacturers out there, LG, Quanta, Sony, and I forget the other one. It's really just who's casing and assembly you're buying when you pick.
For the record, my desk is currently straining under the weight of a 6 year old Iiyama Vision Master 451 19" CRT and a NEC MultiSync E700 17" CRT. Both Japanese.

i just went and picked up the samsung from bestbuy DAMN IS It sexy lookin, havent got to test it much yet but it looks nice :P , stupid thing didnt come with the dvi cables tho :-x so im just using analog for now i guess till i go get one. think it will make to much of a difference if i just get a cheapo cable?
I do computer gaming. I found an excellent LCD which has a very fast refresh rate so there is no "ghosting" even in the most demanding of games I have played with it. It is 19" and under $200.

I have had very good luck with other Acer monitors.

I wouldn't skimp on a DVI cable. The types of low voltage (or even very low voltage) signalling that goes on at crazyhighspeed means that it's very susceptible to noise, of which there's plenty behind your computer.
I'm guessing (based on newegg prices) that a decent DVI cable shouldn't be much more than about $20-25 locally. Definitely avoid anything under $12, heh.
As long as you're using a digital signal, the noise level would have to be extremely high to actually break down the digital signalling. I wouldn't worry about the DVI cable. Noise is a greater concern with an analog VGA signal.
I've got an extra DVI cable if you want it, it's just a matter of getting it to you.

So, having answered the laptop wireless question, I'm in a techy mood.
Which monitor did you go with?

I suggest a $30 TV Tuner card (newegg has plenty).
The one I got is a RealTek and it works fine. The software that comes with it can be scheduled to record stuff and links to a TV guide type website so you can set it up pretty much like tivo and record stuff to your hard drive then watch it (or be boring and watch live TV :-p)
Glad you like it.

lol i wish i could justify blowing some more and geting a second ><
Samsung makes the best LCD's IMHO, that is all I buy for work and home. I have the
225BW Black 22" 5 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor
right now, and I love it. I paid $205 shipped for it about 4 months ago, I am a shopper though and bought it from a little known seller who was overstocked right before the 226BW came out.

Anyone with a 20-24" widescreen LCD wanna measure the vertical visible area of the screen for me? I'm looking to get something that's the same height as the viewable on my 19" CRT (at 1280x1024) to run the whateverx1050 resolution so my desktops will line up. My current 19"/17" pair does NOT line up at all (17" is a POS and only runs at 1024x768).
I plan on buying from Newegg, but of course vertical viewable isn't one of the specs they provide and my trig is a bit rusty.
19" crt is 18" viewable and 10 11/16" tall.
