Laptop ‘Armor’ Saves U.S. Soldier: Computer Stops Six Bullets (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/laptop-armor-saves-u-s-soldier-computer-stops-six-bullets/)

Next time you call HP customer service to complain about your laptop’s performance, the following piece from The Consumerist will make you think twice about what your notebook might actually be good for!

From The Consumerist (http://consumerist.com/2011/06/hp-notebook-can-apparently-shield-soldiers-from-enemy-fire.html):
We get a lot of complaints from readers about their HP computers and the company’s customer service. But one person who won’t be complaining is the U.S. soldier whose HP notebook took six bullets intended for him.

The soldier who sent these images to HP was stationed in Afghanistan when he came under enemy fire. Two bullets hit his shoulder but the other six bullets that hit him were stopped by the notebook in his backpack.

HP sent the soldier a new one and, at his request, let him keep the one pictured here.

Now who wants to buy all my old clunky laptops??

It's probably true, considering all soldiers in country when leaving the relative "safety" of a Forward Operating Base must do so with full kit- body armor, helmet, ammo loadout, etc. The laptop probably took the brunt of the impact from the rounds and either were stopped by the layer of kevlar in his armor, or his E-SAPI ceramic plates. I've seen laptops take quite a bit of ballistic abuse (yes some were over there, not by an AK but also not attached to a person) and you'd be surprised. It's really amazing because laptops are layered with all the plastic, innards, and other junk that makes them do what they do- I won't go into details- but some of that stuff can slow a bullet to the speed of a Democrat trying to read through a Tom Clancy novel.

Im not doubting its possible, or even the probability.
I think it has more to do with the chain link fence, Mobile home with plastic skirting and the cropping of the pictures of the parts.
Just kinda suspect is all.

not saying it did or didn't happen... just smells fishy

edit:
and yes, I still have my HP tablet I used for 2 years there.

My HP laptop that survived a 12-month tour is still at my side (er on my desk)... the only small repair I had to do was replace the cooling fan when I got back -pulled two dust bunnies filled with Afghan dirt and lint out that were about the size of #7 buckshot and were responsible for burning out the tiny motor. Never stopped a bullet, but the DVD Drive did have an empty magazine fall on it and break it, so I have to replace that and still after 2 1/2 year haven't gotten around to it.
