Any more than that and it is called hoarding.

I take it you're very, very guilty of this funk? I know I am (dear family, if you put me on that damned show I will lock you in a closet with a very angry kitten- it's all I really can get my hands on these days)...[Tooth]

There is something somewhere, but I cannot find it, and it has a limit to the amount of ammo in a residential home. I think it was 5,000 total rounds or the equivalent in components or a combination of both.
I am but a grasshopper in google-Fu, hopefully one of you masters can enlighten us novices...
Byte, oh Byte, Grand Poohbah of Google-Fu where are you ? [ROFL1]

NFPA99 covers it but for commercial places. If you call all you get is "Well how much ammo do you have?" They all talk about regulations but never have anything in print.
My county referred me to the Fire dept and when I asked I got the "How much do you have?" like it matters. Then the guy wanted to know my address.
think it was 5,000 total rounds or the equivalent in components or a combination of both. That's funny right there. [LOL]
We have talked about this and it may help for El Paso county.[Coffee]

How much storage space do you have, and money to work with? I'd consider those to be your limitations. Wife's opinions nonwithstanding.....

this isn't russia--i always here of these obscure numeric limits--its sorta like the old "3 moves to get to the gun" drivel about getting to the gun in your glove box--lots of old wives tell it, but nobody's got it written down anywhere in a statute.

I think its more or less based on the storage loacation of your home and the foundation type.
Dont quote me but I thing for reinforced slab concrete on bedrock its 500 Million, or 73 tons per sq meter.
but then what do I know
[LOL]
How much is too much? When you have to start putting your guns and ammo in friends and family's safes and gun cabinets because you have run out of room in your own place.
IIRC, Joe Biden and others wanted to prohibit citizens from owning more than 20 guns or more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition without a proposed "arsenal license." This was shot down after it was pointed out that 2 bricks of .22 LR ammo is a thousand rounds and in many rural areas it is not uncommon for a large family to have 20 or more rifles and shotguns in a house. Joe Biden also wanted to prohibit private ownership of ammunition cans which are commonly used to store fishing tackle, tools, and documents as they are water and fire resistant . . . presumably because ammo cans are somehow frightening to him.
As far as I know, there is no restrictions on the amount of ammunition you can store in your home, although a few states have prohibited certain types of ammunition.

A logical thought is frightening to Joe Biden.
I wish I could afford getting to a limit that some might see as too much. But I have enough for at least 3 weeks of zombie hunting from my roof.
If I only have to shoot one shot a day. Hopefully they are all in a line.

Joe Biden needs to be kidnapped by cannibals on his next trip to Africa.

Why? Do you have something against cannibals? Or you want to corner the market on Pepto Bismol? [Puke]

not really. ammo cooks off it does not suddenly explode into a massive fireball, Unless you happen to live in a compound in waco and have lots of unfriendly folks kicking your doors in.

and contrary to popular myth, Bullets do NOT go shooting around when they cook off, the case softens and ruptures, usually sending the fragments in the other direction at a less than impressive(Still dangerous) speed.

I Love how they "Confirm" it after the fails and the putting the ammo IN the gun IN the oven...

Yes I was exaggerating, but I think the explosive reaction would be different from the Mythbusters oven test if you're cooking multiple GI ammo cans each containing from 750-1000 rounds of various calibers.

Ammo cans are designed to come apart. So the first few kernels of popcorn will pop the can open and then it is all moot.[Coffee]
I will say that throwing primed shotgun shells into the fireplace to get rid of the evidence is not a wise thing for a young boy to do as they are very loud when they go off. [Shock]

Havent seen the cans come apart, but I have listened to ammo exploding in an ammo can during a house fire. Can was all dented up from the inside out, and all the brass casings here exploded. No holes through the can at all, and sealed in a lot of the gun powder smoke. It smelled like gun powder, not house fire when opened. And house fires stink.

I've got about 100k rounds on hand, not including what's loaded into mags for range trips...
25k .308
15k 5.45x39
2k .40
15k 9x19
2k 9x18
5k 7.62x39
8k 5.56x45
2k 8x56
4k .45
20k .22lr
I was just thinking this afternoon that I need to top up on 7.62x39, 5.56x45 and maybe 9x19 in the near future.

Now THAT'S "getting there"! I'm still merely "on my way".
If that's your stash though, I'd recommend securing those shelves to the wall before the whole rack falls over. Looks like it's just freestanding in the middle of the floor?

A liberal might think you have to much ammo and should share it with those ammo disenfranchised.

Yeah, my wife says I "have enough bullets to blow up the world!", she ain't seen nothin'. But to her, empty brass cases are "bullets", and I do have a metric shit-ton of those in 10+ calibers. If I ever get 'em all filled up then I might have a respectable pile.

In a perfect world that might be the only thing liberals think about or willing to touch when it comes to guns.
