I'm pretty sure I'll be there. The car seems to be all fixxied up now. As long as the transmission continues to work, I should be able to travel now. I have no 'out of town' jobs to do as of yesterday. See you there. Karl.

I will be 6 miles from there :P Is this the full IDPA pistol shoot? $12? Less if I help set up? Will you post scores? Is this event instead of the Clear Creek-IDPA or along with? and time? :P
The 9th is my B-Day so I will get boxes of ammo from the kids :P !
I will be there if my 9mm is back from the factory! :?:

7idl
08-04-2006, 06:40
this is just a club shoot.

No fee's
No scores
just fun shootin' with the rest of us.
maybe even have a little lunch if things work out.

Pistol Packing Preacher
08-04-2006, 06:47
Well, I have shot CC-IDPA but I do not know if I am in the club!!!
May I attend? or do I need to join something?

All you need to do is have the desire to show up and have a good time :)

you're already a "member" here

you'll need your own targets and protective gear.

feel free to bring what ever firearms you own.. an AR15 is not required.

I'll go as far to say that if you bring some 9mm (winchester white box (cheap 100round boxes at wally world)) you stand a good chance of firing an uzi.

heck if you bring some 5.56/.223 you can fire an AR or two.

you may even be able to even if you don't bring any ammo.

this is a fairly laid back, non formal shoot (there is an emphasis on safety and someone (usually a COAR mod will be the range officer)

there should be some shoot rules posted here somewhere.

2ndChildhood
08-04-2006, 07:08
The shoot rules got lost when the system crashed a while back.

KC is working on new ones.

See 7idl's post (2 down) for a draft version which will most likely be changed when KC is done.

Thank you for the quick reply and warm welcome! I will do my best to be there. If my 9mm has not come back from the factory then I will bring ammo! Also I will bring my snub nose 38 for plinking :P . Maybe my Winchester 94......

I will be staying with my sister-in-law near Allens Park so I will be close! I have shot there before by myself.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

I'm relatively new here and trying to improve my skills.
I'm wondering if anyone coming to the shoot could take a few minutes showing me how to use the rifle sling & evaluate my pistol draw & stance?

Thanks - 2C

Hoping to make it, looks like it'll be a good crowd.

Shopping list:
MORE AMMO!
Cleaning stuff so I can try to break in the barrel w/ some restraint
Water
Targets and a stand

Man first the dirtbikes now this.... what have I gotten myself into?
[roll]

I'll take some of that sage, friendly advice too, please.

I'll recognize 2C, but is there going to be a sign or anything? Wondering how it'll work w/ a range officer when non-forum folks show up. Anyone gonna bring some of those cards I read about?

Oh and I'm bringing at least one box (er almost full) of 9mm just in case...

See this thread, towards the bottom is directions with a detail map of the shoot area. It's really easy to find - don't worry about it. http://coloradoshooting.org/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2980

Hasn't been a problem in the recent past (that I've seen) with non-COAR guys, they've gone along with cease fires etc.
Marlin, Hunter, 7idl and Karl have kept an eye on things with varying levels of formality.
Rumor has it the RO will start wearing an orange vest or something to identify them.

Marlin - bring cards!!

The good news is I'll probably be able to make this one, I was just notified that I have Fridays and Saturdays off now.

The bad news is that sportsmans backordered my .45 and .308, so I may just bring the shotgun and .22

The worse news is that in order to get F/S off this week, I have to work tomorrow night, making it 7 days in a row.

The most annoying news is that he woke me up to tell me all this.

must....keep...concentrating...on...the.....good.. ..news....

Scott: I'll be heading up from Broomfield if you want to follow, just pm me or post here. Easy enough to meet at the Bfield Park 'n Ride just off 36, or in the Target lot just North of the 36/287/120th interchange. 2C's right, once you're at 7/72 you can't miss it.

Psycho: work sucks! Shooting at stuff is a great stress reliever.

Like Scott said, do we have a gathering time? Takes about an hour for me to get up there so I'm hoping for something reasonable (read: let me sleep in a bit), like 10-11am? Last time the FS and statie guys were cool with folks shooting from the shade of the trees, that'd be nice.

Forgot to go to Sportsman's tonight dang it.

Ammo: check.

Targets: check (kinda... got a wimpy stand/target pack but better than nuthin).

Cleaning stuff: check.

Even picked up a soft case for the mini... couldn't resist at $18.

FYI Sportsman's Warehouse doesn't have shooting mats, but they do have Winchester .223 Rem 62gr FMJ on sale for $5.50/box, at least at the Thornton location. There were only a few boxes left after me and a couple other guys got to it, one of whom said he was just at Gander and the same stuff was $8.

TO: Boulder County Area Media
FROM: Cmdr. Phil West, #303/441-3621
RE: Fire Restrictions Have Been Lifted

Sheriff Joe Pelle recommended Thursday that the current fire restrictions in effect for the western, mountainous half of Boulder County be lifted, and the Board of County Commissioners agreed. Consequently, as of this morning, there are no fire restrictions in effect in unincorporated Boulder County.

The Sheriff made the recommendation after consulting with his Emergency Services staff and United States Forest Service (USFS) officials. Recent rains have dropped the risk of wildland fires to moderate levels. The Forest Service lifted fire restrictions on forest lands July 26th.

Boulder County Transportation Department crews will remove the posted and automated signs that proclaimed the ban from the mouth of each canyon within the next couple of days.

This media release may be found on the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office web-site at: www.bouldersheriff.org

Rain sucks, but shooting was fun.

The FAL mags took the worst of the damage, little spots of surface rust here and there. They're all disassembled and soaking in CLP in the bathroom sink.

The FAL had a couple spots on the muzzle brake where the paint's been blasted off, but it wasn't too hard to clean off.

The G21 and it's mags had no rust (gee, what a suprize). The 10/22 is all stainless and aluminum so no rust there.

The oddball was the mossberg. Quite visible on the trigger was surface rust, particularly on the right side (presumably where finish was warn off by my finger). It cleaned off well enough and there wasn't any on any of the other parts so that's good.

But everything's all clean and the cases are hanging over the shower curtain rail drying out. Some of the ammo boxes may not make it, so I'll have to figure something out there.

I got quite a bit of rust on the AK and one of the mags. Neither the 1911 or the XD got any.

What is the best way to get the rust off of the AK?

more rust and call it a new finish :)

PsychoI3oy
08-12-2006, 20:50
I wouldn't expect the XD to get any, they're pretty much the same as Glocks, finish-wise.

The AK.... Well, Here's what I did for the FAL magazines:

Strip, spray with CLP, scrub with plastic brush (don't want to take off more finish) and let soak with CLP. Later tonight or tomorrow or sometime I'll scrub them some more with more clp and then wipe down and reassemble. I dunno what I'll do to touch up the finish to keep it from happening again, but this should take care of it for now.

Should you have a readily available way to refinish, I suggest using an old bore brush or other bronze brush to take the rust off as it'll go a lot quicker.
