Made my first trip up to Squaw this weekend, it was a nice place to shoot. I was there with a few buddies shooting and the Parks Law Enforcement truck pulled up as we were cleaning up. I spoke with the officer whose name was Bryan for about 20 minutes. He couldn't have been any nicer and was thrilled to death that we had picked up several bags of garbage and shells. I mentioned the forum here and he was more than happy to tell his director that CO-AR15.com was out there picking up trash and keeping it clean. It was a really nice conversation with the officer and he even loved the AR's we had and was very interested. I have attached some pics since it was so friggin beautiful up there.
Also, I got the cheapo little NcStar dialed in and it was dead on at 100+ yards, which made me happy. Also it was the first time shooting with the new accessories, made a big difference. And I got to shoot my friends Ruger 44 magnum with a 9.5" barrel, what a sweet pistol.

Nice... I had quite an interesting time up there yesterday:
Left the house around 2pm to go see really which was better- the AR or the AK... since my BMW will not do well up there I took my brother's Jeep Grand Cherokee. Unfamiliar with the Cherokee's door locks I LOCKED THE KEYS INSIDE, with my guns, and new target stand. Stranded up there for an hour and a half waiting on a locksmith from Lakewood to come up, after a $90 unlock commenced shooting. Good news: Got 5 free bowling pins!

Haha, thats crappy Ronin...I literally probably just missed you. We left around 1:30-1:45. So, which was better?

Obviously the AR- especially when it came to popping bowling pins (which was pretty funny)... as soon as I hit the paper target I quickly realized yes, the AK puts bigger holes, but the AR punched out the bulls eye. The AK was by far easier to bump fire though, and that probably made the people down the road wonder what the hell was going on. [LOL]
Are there any 4x4 trails or play grounds around there?

So I've never been up there....so what you're saying is that if I bring my little Civic that wouldn't be a good idea?

not at all, we can tape targets to it... because chances are, it would get back out.

Ya its a rough rocky road up there for sure, the super duty was takin it nice and slow on them sharp rocks.
I've made it up and back (on the trail just passed echo mtn) in my BMW 3-series sedan, but never again. I just wanted to see if it would make it. I only take my Dodge Ram up there (or in Monday's case my brother's jeep since he used to Dodge to go on a camping trip to MI). We did at one point back in like '03 or so make it up there in a Dodge Stealth, but after bottoming out so many times the Stealth had to get about $2K in undercarriage repairs.
If you put your tires on the rocks, instead of around them, you should be fine.

Ditto for me as well if you don't mind. I've heard shooting when I've been in the area but don't know how to get in there. What is the longest shot you can take? I'd like to find a place to work with my AR past 200 yards.
Thanks
I drove camry there a couple of times, civic will do just fine.
What is the longest shot you can take?
maybe 50 yards at best

This!
I did the same last week. Anyone who had been paying attention to Bailey's gauntlet throw down to one of our newer members, I mentioned anyone could put their money where their mouth is up at Squaw sometime soon for our "old guys" vs "Young guys" shoot off. [Beer]

Clear Creek did end their fire ban on 7/31 but the forest service didn't retract their fire ban until 8/2 I believe. Since Squaw is on national forest land(I think...) then that ban is the one that matters and superceeds the countys fire ban.

Anybody see my 5 bowling pins I left up there?:)
My parents have a cabin up in evergreen on Upper Bear Creek Rd and I'm up there once or twice a month. Would love to check this spot out sometime if it is near or on the way there. Would appreciate a PM with directions and/or GPS coords to get there.
Also, is it a pretty crowded spot usually?
Thanks!
