View Full Version : What's in your garage?
So I was thinking this could be a sticky, just curious, since we all know some people on here are quite fond of their cars (such as a certain person on here who owns a sexy ass Ferrari)... so post up some car stuff, chat about what you have, what you wanna do with it/have done with it, etc...

Never mind, I would hide it in a garage too, and come home after dark.

.. I don't own them.. I just get them whenever I want.. It's great. I don't pay for the car, insurance, or maintenance.. which btw.. you think a regular stealership sucks.. wait till you get a $1500 oil change...

I worked on Audis and sold them for years, it was a really nice benefit driving those sleds around on a regular basis. And even at Audi there are no $1500 oil changes, a service maybe but definitely not an oil change.

Had a '06 A3 2.0T for 5 years. LOVED IT! I also loved not paying for a darn thing for maintenance during that time. Didn't even buy windshield washer fluid until the last year..Audi did it all for free. Miss it. :(
Traded it for a Tundra double cab 5.7L Off Road so I have room for my growing family. Love it too. Not a sports car but love it anyway. Also in the garage: 2000 Harley FXDWG, 2010 Subaru Forester 2.5XT (pretty awesome wagon considering it has a turbo) and a bubble mower...

In the garage is my wife's pristine 1990 Nissan 240SX SE Coupe ... she drove it off the show room floor back in 1990 and its lived in one garage or another ever since.

(that's not hers, its just a pic I found off the web ... but its basically just like that ... and in about that condition)
Since we're stuck with only a 1 car garage, my 1970 Porsche 914 has to live outside (which is why I'll probably sell it) :(

Also sharing the driveway with the Porsche is a 2002 PT Cruiser Limited Edition that I drive to work.

You can do better than Dinan for less money! Unless you're worried about a warranty or just really want to be able to name drop, there are more options.
At the moment, we've got:
1998 M3:

and the hood, before I made it a little more subtle...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3486/3851675882_ec51e83bc2_z.jpg
And the Jeep:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5161/5255376713_50e6106518_z.jpg
and the other Jeep (also a work in progress, someone went after the wiring with snips and some duct tape...)

and you can see the wife's Jeep in there too....

That's how I rolled my first truck. I was doing super charged donuts in 2wd with the rear locker on. I went from doing tight circles to doing wide, drifting circles; hit a bump and landed on my roof.
I wouldn't drive locked up on the street though, that'd be silly.

I have 10'...you'll fit your GTO and TA with 10' but do yourself a favor, if it's possible, do 14' ceilings. The reason I say this is that both of your cars will give you about 5' under them to do work. 5' is probably plenty, but if I put the touareg on the lift, I have to work on my knees under it. My oil drain pan wont fit under it. 14' ceiling will put you back at 5' for most everything you would own and wrench on
With 14' ceilings, you could probably park another car under it as well.
I need a new profession yhou guys have some nice stuff.
i have never spent more than 2 grand on a car. and also i have never had one die with less than 200k on the odometer, best was a 98 dodge intrepid that had 298k when i rolled it. current car is is a 91 jimmy with 252k on it.

My "man cave" started out as a 30'x40' steel shell with 10' walls and a dirt floor. It was here when we bought the place almost 10 years ago.
Here's a couple of "aerial" views of the house/barn/property from Mt Bailey (the barn is the blue bldg below the house):

And a front view:
http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt337/baileyguns/Dannys%20Pics/ca4901a6.jpg
I've since added a concrete floor and ran power from the house to a 200w sub-panel on the barn. I wired it under a real electrician's supervision for lights and outlets. I still need to insulate it. I have a pellet stove for heat...not that it does any good without insulation but working on that.
It's home to the bikes and various tools and such. I like to hang out there with one or two of the pups.

What do you do by the way that you have access to 3 Ferraris and a Maybach? And if you know how a maybach drives you are wrong- only chauffeurs know how it drives, you should only know how the back seat feels.
Are we doing just current vehicles or do previous vehicles qualify as well? If just right now my garage is pretty boring. A 2007 Toyota Camry and an all new 2011 Kia Optima SX Turbo. The Kia is the shit and I never thought I would say that. I saw & drove one and fell in love. I honestly made my loaded 2007 Audi A4 feel like a rolling turd in comparison. I traded it my A4 and haven't looked back. Every bit of this car is better than my Audi ever dreamed of being. More features/options, more gizzmos & on top of that it has 274hp and still gets 36mpg on this highway all on regular unleaded gas. All that and I got a 5yr 60k mile bumper to bumper warranty! I got $500 more for my A4 than I paid for it 2.5yrs ago and got the Optima for below MSRP (tough to do on an SX since they're so hard to come by right now) and even my insurance went down. Anyway, since this is a pic thread here's a few pics of the Kia so you can get an idea what I'm talking about. If you're near me let me know because you HAVE to go for a ride in this thing to truly appreciate it. If we can post pics of previous vehicles let me know the rules because I had a much more interesting past life when it came to vehicles. [Beer]

This is the only cool thing I got in my so called garage... A full blown race bike (2003 Suzuki GSXR 1000) that I ride like a raped ape [ROFL1]. At one point I thought to myself of grabbing or building a 400+hp car, but figured it wasn't practical for me if I can't afford track time or racing it.... and have the thought of holding back from putting it through it's limit and the fear of wrecking it.

I always thought it was "run like a raped date".
I really want to get back into motorcycle track days and possibly racing. But I am reasonably certain it would be cheaper to get addicted to Meth. I rode a 2003 600RR like a raped date. Damn I miss that bike.

I used to have an '03 600RR... soon as I get a new place, and some more money (like next March or so) I'm getting an '09-'11 600RR, just depends on what I can get a good deal on.

Seriously riding a bike fast is the most fun you can have with your cloths on. Though maybe not as much fun as you can have wearing leather...

Yeah, but I like some of the paint scemes they came out with on the '08 and later versions. I'm not looking to get a strictly track bike, I'd like something I can cruise the canyons and side roads with and then also take to a track day. I'm no pro-racer or have any desires to be (although getting into MotoGP would be pretty awesome). I talked to a friend of mine at Sun Honda a month or so ago and he said Jan-Mar is the best time to buy since it's before the season begins and I can get a good deal on a used one if they have any in stock.
The 2010 looks awesome with this paint job and it's probably the one I'd get:

That's the plan, with the 2002 (probably track days too, but mostly autox)
And so far, just the BMW club with the M3. I'm an SCCA member and plan on coming out, probably for one of the ProSolo, just haven't yet. I like getting 8-10 runs in a day. You should come out in two weeks, we'll be at Front Range Airport.
2004 Mach 1 Screaming Yellow. Has 23,000 miles on it.
Fun care, but I can no longer use it at the South Site, too many deep ruts.

Zombie thread...didn't want to start a new one since this one is in the same ballpark as my question...
Anybody own/owned a Triumph Spitfire? I'd love to hear any impressions or info on them if you have any. I'd also love to get behind the wheel of one just for a bit to see if I even fit in the damn thing...I'm hopefully looking to score one in the next couple months but don't want to waste a bunch of time on research and scouring classifieds if I can't squeeze my ass into one.
This is the time of year where I start getting excited (tax return and bonus season) and every year I say to myself "THIS is the year I will finally have enough left over to get a project car". Every year something comes up...but I suppose that's life for you. This IS the year though...hopefully.

Check the frame and front end carefully. THEN check them again. They have issues with rust and sometimes breaking, when least expected.

I did own a Spitfire 1500 and a TR6 in the old days, because they were cheap to buy and nobody wanted to deal with them once they started to break down.... They are fun to drive, albeit slow to accelerate, BUT can be dangerous when driven too fast.... The spit will give you absolutely no warning (ok maybe some wheel chatter) if you corner too fast before you hit the ditch... trust me on this one: This is how mine ended.
Rust is your enemy, and you WILL have to re-wire the whole car.... The good news: There is TONS of parts available worldwide, so fixing something should be easy.
If you find a TR6, it will be a more suitable car for the kind of road we have here.

Check the frame and front end carefully. THEN check them again. They have issues with rust and sometimes breaking, when least expected.
Yeah I don't imagine your frame snapping itself in half at 50mph is going to end very well. They seem to be somewhat available around here and decently cheap. I mean an old Porsche or an Alfa Romeo, or even a Bugeye Sprite would be even better but it doesn't seem like there's much to choose from when it comes to buying one of those around here. Thanks for the heads up Jim.

I like the look of the spits more but you're right a TR6 is probably more practical for what we have here. It would also be helpful having those extra two cylinders if I was going to take it up for a drive in the mountains as well I am betting.
My DD is a 94 4Runner... My wife drives a 2011 Subaru Forester
My garage queen is a 66 Impala full frame off restored
Looks like I have a lot in common with Kwando. Up until a couple months ago my daily drive was a '94 4Runner and I have a '66 Impala SS in my garage.

Why not just get a Mazda Miata Or even a Honda S2000?
Current garage occupants are a 1965 Mustang and a 1972 Chevelle. Add in all the extra parts and tools and there's not much garage left. Haha.

Those just seem boring, bland and have a complete lack of soul. I'm sure they are nicer cars by every measurable spec...but there's just something cool about old Euro sports cars from the 60s and 70s.
I need to clean my garage so I can take a pic. However, most of my stuff is strewn over the property.

Here. Mechanics are TR6 and it is unique. I drove one of these back in the day and it was a fun car. http://www.jagpromotions.com/forsale/tvr/tvrsale.html

You should probably test drive one before you make that assessment. Also, 1) I assume you won't be leaving anything stock, and 2) better hope the old car had enough soul to over come being in the garage instead of on the street if things go South. Take all that with a grain of salt of course. I just don't buy into the whole "no soul" stance, as any modified car has soul.

The Wrangler pic was taken the day I bought it, better be clean [Beer] (Course, that was 4 years ago)
The Willys on the other hand is just a scoot around the area vehicle.
Never see's any real driving, still working out some bugs from the rebuild.
Might get under it this summer for some suspension work and new fuel tank.

Want to talk about a waste of State funds and man hours ?
the CDOT'S sign shop has made a shit ton of miniature paperweights of that sign for the upper office weenies and for the Gubner to hand out.
My garage? Familiar with the term "20 pounds of shit in a 10 pound bag"?

Nothing exotic I'm afraid:
2014 Premium Edition Mustang convertable
2014 Ford F-150 XLT 4X4
2011 Murano SL
Next buy will be a new Lincoln SUV to replace the Murano.
I remember long ago that one of the member here had few Ferraris.
This is sums up the "get around toys" for now...

Nice E36 M3!!
My mom with E36 M3 , when she was on mid life (don't recall exactly, but on yr 1998ish? ). My sister and I chipped in most of our savings for the down payment as a post-divorce present. LOL [ROFL1]

You can do better than Dinan for less money! Unless you're worried about a warranty or just really want to be able to name drop, there are more options.
At the moment, we've got:
