I am contemplating putting night sights on my hk45 and Colt a2. my question is it really worth it to put them on? I was thinking maybe a rifle light might be a better fit. I do have partial vision loss thankfully not in my dominant eye. but it does affect my peripheral vision slightly. it really affects my when i am fatigued.
My question is would night sights really help with a faster target acquisition or is it more superficial? would a flashlight be better for someone in my situation?
This gun set up is my SHTF/emergency set up. so would be mainly a combat set for semi suburban/rural areas.
For carry handgun, definitely yes no matter flaslight or not. I would put something like Aimpoint on the rifle.

Agreed. All my carry pistols have had night sights. Haven't bothered on my rifle, but I did put some HiVis paint on the front sight to make it easier to pick up in low light. Primary sighting system on my rifle is an Aimpoint CompM2 though.

Nite sights pal- all day long and then some.
Night sights are great, but you better practice with them at night.
Also agree with night sights on a carry pistol.
For a rifle it sounds like you'd be better off with some sort of optic if your eyes are going. For an iron sight solution I'd recommend a fiber-optic high-vis since you're probably not going to be using that in the dark and it will show up nice and bright outside. The downside is that people tend to focus on the dot instead of the top of the post and that can start to hurt you as the target moves further out.

This, I went NS on the AR's front sight for the wife due to her issues with sight picture on long guns. Good thing i had a used front NS laying around. Stepped back and rethought her problem and went with the HiViz front sight, what a difference. She had one on her shotgun, should have went that way the first time.

Yes, they make a tremendous difference in one's ability to engage targets at night. Especially if the target is more than kicking distance away.
If an attacker is that close, you have a beat-down ahead of you anyway. Better win with elbows, knees, and fists.
Look at it this way...if you use your SHTF/HD gun and are in court defending your actions to defend yourself, how would you rather answer this imminent question from the blood sucking lawyer trying to make YOU the criminal:
"Did you use your sights?"
You can either respond with "No, I could not see them" and open the door for that lawyer to make you look bad in front of the jury by painting you as somone who fired blindly and recklessly into the night...
or,
you could respond with "Yes, I aligned my sights on the threat and used the appropriate force needed to protect my self in accordance with Colorado Revised Statues."
Does that answer your question?
