View Full Version : Let's Start a CO-AR15 Circle on Google+ (Request Invites Within)
If you're not familiar with what Google+ is then you may have been under a rock the last couple weeks. [ROFL2] Think Facebook/MySpace meets Google. It's on an invite only basis right now and due to their servers getting hammered the invites have been locked down(on and off... mostly off) the last week or so and the loopholes to invite people were also closed down. Well, as of today it looks like the Invite button is officially on once again. If you want an invite I will send them out if you post your email address here for me. I would suggest doing it in the following manner: name (at) email (dot) com
If you aren't familiar with circles it's a way of organizing your friends into certain groups so you can share certain messages with certain groups. I plan to create on called CO-AR15 and add everyone here who requests an invite to it so if I want to share a message with members of this forum it's a quick way to do so.
So far it seems cool and I will certainly enjoy the better control of privacy and will also welcome a format that doesn't bombard me with advertising and requests for Farmville and other asinine shit I couldn't care less about. Viva Google+! [Beer]

Awe dammit... invites are closed one again or I used up my invites. As soon as they unlock or I get more invites I will hand them out in the order they're requested.

I think you can look at someone's list of people in their circles. You can't see specifically what circles they're in.

Wave kinda fizzled. It was a cool idea but I just didn't see a practical use for it unless you're in specific industries. If you are it's probably an invaluable tool. It's not just like facebook. It's different and time will tell if it will be better or not. Personally I like a lot of what it does better already and plan to do away with my fb page eventually. Sooner that I get everyone I know on Google+ the better because I'm SO sick of the fb crap. Between the default sharing of private information to the constant spamming of bullshit time waster games I've had just about as much as I can take.
My issue with Facebook, is that EVERYONE sees and hears EVERYTHING. There is a reason I don't talk to certain people, but thanks to Facebook (even though I'm NOT EVEN ON Facebook), I get constant updates on their lives.

Nope, I triple checked and no dice. Sounds like Google may be having some bugs with their search function at the moment since someone earlier couldn't find someone as well.
Just a heads up to everyone PMing me email addresses... they invites are currently disabled so I can't send them currently but as soon as they enable them again I wills end invites in the order I received email addresses.

So far, no. With as much traffic as their system keeps getting whenever they open it I wouldn't be surprised if they do limit it whenever it opens again.

I sent a bunch of those out last week and the problem is only about 1/4 of the people I sent them to actually got them. The second problem was that most of the time when invites were disabled the Join link in the email also wouldn't allow registration.

Alright, invites sent to everyone I have requests from. If you sent a request and haven't received an invite email in the next hour or so then PM me your email again because something went wrong.

So I did a test message, and Dr. Fwd responded to it. Do we know how to make it so that we don't get an email notification for every comment? That will quickly overwhelm my email.

Go to your settings you can adjust your notifications there.
I just found that. It took me a while to find the right place in the settings though. I have more Google things than I know what to do with. I was also able to turn of the sharing feature as well.

it's easy to find. it's right in the email body - there's something like "change what google+ sends you" or smthng like that...

Right now, we're testing with a small number of people, but it won't be long before the Google+ project is ready for everyone. Leave us your email address and we'll make sure you're the first to know when we're ready to invite more people.

It is going to be hard to create your own circles from the people here.
For instance on Jer's circle you cannot tell who is COAR15 from who is his other contacts. (using you as an example :) )
If you want to add people to your own COAR15 circle it might be feasible to post in Jer's or someone else you are COAR15 so you can be added to others to get this growing. Sorry for the ramble. [Beer]

That's kind of the point of Google+ in a word: integration. It has the capability to replace all of those in a single integrated & streamlined platform. Once a bulk of my friends have a Google+ account I'm dumping everything else. I'll love having this all native to my Android phones.

I can converse with family without thinking I am filling everyone's feed as you do in Facebook.
you realize you can block all the games ( I do I see none of that crap on my facebook)
And you also know you can filter posts on facebook ... it's not hard I do it all the time when I say stuff I don't want my grandma seeing .... you can even preset groups to include or exclude.. any which way you like....
This is just another online data mining operation for personal information.

I'm well aware of all these features but the way facebook implements them is clumsy at best. If you haven't yet used the Circles feature of Google+ I wouldn't expect you to understand the difference.

Man, there are already a LOT of Brandon Young on Google+ and the inability to search by email makes things that much more interesting. The search function needs immediate and careful attention before it turns people off of this service. Ironic for a company like Google, don't ya think? I was able to find you and add you comparing to other people's circles then your employer/email information in your profile.

You can search by email address in the same location that you can search by name. I was able to add Brandon without a problem.

I've tried it and every time I do the result is some sort of Google search page return w/o any results. Not sure if it's a glitch on my end (and others) and it works for you or what. Did you already have him in your circles when you searched by email address?

I have significantly more then that but most are co-ar15 members whom I have not met. One is in my "banned from arfcom" circle and I know him personally.

Nope, I tried it by email during the process of adding him.
