View Full Version : Discovery's One Man Army = Disappointment
Anyone watch the series premier of One Man Army on the Discovery Channel? The premise looked awesome and the challenges were cool, but some 28 year old "firearms instructor" with no LE or .mil experience up against a Deputy US Marshall, Fmr Delta Operator, and a Fmr Cop/Security Contractor. Well I won't spoil the results but let's just say "that dog won't hunt." Total BS... could have been great but with poor contestant selection and the host being 100x more annoying than the host of Top Shot, well I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

I second that Ronin. I watched it last night and was actually appalled that a delta force guy couldn't get off a zipline and shot worse than the club firearms guy. Weak sauce. But, I did watch the new sons of guns...a little lame with a tri m16 but still a cool feat.
On a side note, has anyone bought a Red Jacket firearm? I think the integrally suppressed AK is pretty sweet, prices don't look too bad either.

why must le or mil a prerequisite for being an overall better shooter than a civilian in your opinion??
I know lots of mil guys and face it outside of being in the shit or quals do not shoot if at all. same for le's.
I thought that show was pure garbage. The scenarios were horrible and unrealistic. I also agree the host was annoying. I have seen him somewhere else though, anyone know where?

I wouldn't waste the time watching another episode.

Out of that group, I would think that the Delta dude would have cleaned their clocks and had time to hit the head on the way out.

Everything seems so rehearsed and they could certainly get rid of the goofy - spacey girl. Her voice will stop a fully wound up 7-day clock.
Yeah, Sons of Guns is rehearsed. Way too much drama added. And I didn't mind the owners daughter at first, but now I can't stand her. Her voice is so full of arrogance, like everyone that walks into that store is an idiot.

Come on, ALL of those shows are rehearsed; OC Choppers, Oper Repo, all of that crap.

He was the host of another short lived "reality" show "Man & Woman vs Wild" or something like that. His voice drives me crazy
If you've seen the video Shooting Missology the trainer was James Yeager who was a contestant last night abd looks like he been doing some serious fitness training since that video was shot.

Will and his daughter have a weird relationship that makes me uncomfortable to watch.
They do live in the south[ROFL1]

There is no reality in "Reality TV"
I thought it was a good show. The outcome (ending) was not expected. But 20 years of age is a huge advantage in many things like those obstacles. Then there is the fact that most bulk muscle guys are physically imbalanced. It was predictable that the huge muscle guy would wash out first. Sure he can crush things or lift heavy crap but all that muscle is also a lead weight for other things. I laughed my butt off watching him. Mainly because he was such a douche to the kid before that event. But as climbers sometimes say, bulk weight is dead weight...
I hate to ruin it for others. But how else do you talk about it?

I only caught some of it, but I thought it was supposed to be the ultimate soldier not who can escape from a prison the best.

If you can't think outside the box and improvise, you are one dead soldier in the end.

same, I didnt really like the show, but I was pleasantly surprised to see James Yeager from tactical response as one of the contestants. Surprised that no one else here has connected the dots/said anything about it yet.
That guy is one hell of a good shot with a pistol.

Agreed. I just wish his classes were closer to home. If they were, I would attend one in a heartbeat

That's what made me turn the channel....they should have had a "drive a car with manual transmission under stress" event. That would have been funny!

Yeah all the 'reality shows' are fake, but at least SOG has guns in it. And really, you wouldn't expect a delta force guy or any special forces guy to shoot better than a civilian under pressure, i.e. after a long run...shit I do. I was watching something on seals on nat geo the other night and they said the seals and special forces shoot more ammo than the entire marine corps in a year, so yes I would expect them to shoot better than a civilian. Just imo.
