View Full Version : What Color?
I'm just about done with my Jeep build. Now it's time to paint it, but what color? I want to leave the bed black but not sure on the cab. Wife says do the whole Jeep black. It is a 1976 J20 with new everything. Even has 17" disc brakes on the front. It used to be a DOW Jeep with a utility bed and I took that off and built a flat bed. I may just prime it and let the new owner worry about a color. I'll probably just sell or trade it anyway.

duplicolor paintshop BSP209 - Dark Emerald Green Metallic
http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/SHW-BSP209_OH.jpgI thought about that. Keep it about the original color with a couple of coats of clear. That way I won't have to paint the door returns or under the hood.
good thinking, will save you time and money. love the bed set up, great looking work truck. Would look good on my farm.
Woodland MARPAT would be my choice.
Have you considered a ballpark for an asking price?

Haven't considered a price yet. Everything is new. Front end, rear end, transfer case, tranney, clutch, springs--well you get the idea. iT HAS ABOUT 45K on the engine. It is a 360 with a 2 barrel. Was thinking of going to a 4 barrel but why. This truck is stupid fast and strong. 4 new 17" tires. It is a beast.
Man that thing is sweet, and a 1976 with only 45K miles that is killer. With I had the dough for this baby.
I too would go with a green similar to the original color
There is a local Jeep Cherokee done in a forest green that I really like.

I've been obsessed with Jeep's Sahara Tan lately.

That sounds awsome. The bucket seats in my truck are out of a Cherokee. Even have the power hooked up to them.

Wish I could call it mine but Jeep wants way too much for a new Wrangler.
Nice work on the J20.

Looks like a great hunting rig to me, so why not a flat green or light brown, flat finish being the key?

I agree. A flat OD green would give it a real military/utilitarian look.

Black would just be too damn hot, IMO. Unless it's got a killer AC system in it.

Woodland Camo!!!! Green, Black, Tan, Dark Earth, all the colors mentioned here except flat yellow. [Beer]
Usually I'd say Snow Camo, but on that classic, I'm liking the earthy greens and browns on it.

And make sure that your windows in your jeep are as dark as the ones on this truck....
Reminds me of a joke about fat chicks and mopheads....
I couldn't be paid enough to paint it or even drive it with that pink.[ROFL1]
You can polish a turd but it's still a turd.[ROFL2][ROFL3]

I don't have the answer, but I bet it would be cheaper than paint. I see him doing a lot of vehicles (most are commercial) in fact that pink pickup looks like one he did for some womans' rodeo.
He also has a full size pickup but he only did a stripe down the sides on it.
The Insight has been recovered in several different styles over the years.

Hey sbouslog, Thank's for the color work up. Is that hard to do? Can I do that on my computer too? If it's not a big hassel will you do one that comes close to matching the color green that is already on it?
Thanks, Jess

Its pretty easy to do. Only takes a couple of minutes. You have to download the "home decorator" app. It is usually used to see what rooms will look like if you paint them a different color. I will see how close I can get when I get off work tonight.

Ok, I don't know what Canyon Signs charges, but I did some Googling and there are a LOT of folk out there doing the vehicle wrap thing (just google "Vinyl Vehicle Wrap").
These guys say $3695 (http://skinzwraps.com/indexhome.html) (hard to find anyone that has a price on their site, most want to contact you with a sales rep to give you a quote).
These guys sell just the vinyl (http://www.stickercity.com/Car-Wraps/) for the do-it-yourselfer and it looks pretty inexpensive (probably less than a grand).
They also say:
Vinyl is very stable, inexpensive, and versatile. It can be laid down around compound curves, rivets and corrugation. It is also durable. Our premium camouflage vinyl car wrap sheets last 5-8 years in the outdoors.
For the Jeep, I think this (http://www.stickercity.com/Digital-Camo-Vinyl-Wrap-Decal-Woodlland.html) would rock.

This is as close as I could get to the current color. I got this color from the original picture but with the light hitting it differently all over the color sample changed drastically depending on where on the pic I sampled the color from.

If anyone else would like to see anything they own in a different color let me know. It's somewhat fun to do.

That's just fine. I just wanted to see what it would look like original. I also have side pannels that go down the side of the bed that will go the same color as the cab.
