I walk in my gun room today and find that my colt 1991 has a thin coat of rust on it, all my pistols are displayed on a book shelf kinda thing so its open, my glocks were perfectly fine but the colt didnt like the humidity, im guessing its the display case since all my surplus rifles look good since theyre in display cases with silica gel packs inside. Will coating the 1991 with clp fix this? How do you guys keep your guns rust free?

That Colt 1991 should be parkerized. Parkerized guns hold oil very well. While I don't have a good solution for you as far as taking care of the rust, if you will give it a good coat of CLP or some other gun oil before you put it away a little humidity shouldn't bother it. I had the same gun back in the mid 1990's and I lived on the gulf coast of Texas where the humidity hardly ever dropped below 95% and I never had a problem with rust.

Had you handled / fondled the Colt without wiping it down with a lightly oiled rag prior to putting it on the shelf ?
This is something I need to do after handling any of my firearms due to having very corrosive elements in my sweat. I learned this a long time ago when I found my finger and palm prints rusted into guns that I handled only the night before.

Try letting the offending parts soak in ATF for a couple days and then buff with a piece of denim from an old pair of jeans.
The rust will damage the blue, even if the rust all comes off it will "shadow" where it was.
