So I have decided that after waiting so long and thinking of them as the perhaps best invention of the 20th Century (thankfully Beer was invented before then), I am now in the market for the venerable, respectable, and always faithful M1 Garand .30cal Service Rifle. I'm curious though as to where the best place in CO to go to buy one is (ordering just takes soo freaking long, but will if I have to) and what should I expect to pay? [Help] I want to go pop off some rounds and then hear that famous "Ping!" I don't know why I've waited so long to get one, so please be gentle. [Coffee]

I think I remembered somone saying Jensens had a few the last time i was out there
That was last year so it could have changed
How about the big 5?I heard they had carbines its possible they had a few Garands as well

Anything Big 5 has is likely to be pert near worn out, probably import marked. No Garand owner worth his salt wants an import-marked Garand. But.... an import Garand is better than no Garand at all.

Go to a CMP Garand match, participate, and become eligible to purchase one from them. There is one at Weld County Fish and Wildlife this Sunday. Ammo is issued, and you can borrow a rifle if they have one available. The last match, they loaned out all they had. Cost is $20, you'll spend more than that for just surplus ammo. 50 rounds plus 5 sighters.

On another note:
As far as "Import Marked" Garands, I guess I'm not worth my salt. It was my first rifle given to me by my dad, and is cherished as such. I don't give a rats about being correct, or having all the right parts, or how it's marked. It shoots, and shoots quite well. I participate in High power with it, and do fairly well.

As I said, an import Garand is better than no Garand at all. The import mark simply reduces its collector value. I would rather have 1,000 import Garands- than no Garand at all!!

Also, my 1st Garand was a Blue Sky import. Just remember they are like potato chips. You're never satisfied with just one.

Where is Jensens? And Where is Big 5? Are they in Denver? I asked around at BluCore and they said they could order one, but no one knew where to go physically and buy one. I really don't mind if it's imported, as long as it's the same caliber and function as the original.

Jensens is in Loveland. Big 5 is a sporting goods store, there are quite a few around the Denver metro area. Locations can obviously be gotten via internet.

and here it goes....

Gunsmoke had a few decent ones in there when I checked them out.
tad high on price for my tastes, expect to be scoffed at, if not outright ignored if you go in.

but they had some.

There is one guy there who sells with a C&R that I bought one from a few years ago. He usually has several under well under $900. It really depends upon the manufacturer, whether the rifle is all serial numbered correct and the barrel being usable or not.

I've always have had great luck with the CMP. My buddy just ordered two from them, he got them at his door exactly a week from when he ordered them. You will get an all-GI rifle, properly headspaced and graded. I will say prices have gone up since I was buying them. Buy the best rifle you can afford, and good luck.

Where would the import mark be located?

There will be no import mark on a CMP rifle.

Where would the import mark be located?

I've seen them under the bbl, or on the receiver near the model and/or serial number. You gotta look close.. some want to minimize the impact, some just want a convenient location to expedite the stamping/engraving.

just examine pretty close.. typically anywhere there is exposed metal (they aren't going to waste their time stripping it down to hide it somewhere (typically) ;)

Just to make it clear...

'Import' Garands are not foreign made. They are surplus guns that the US government gave to our allies overseas. They have been been released for sale by their foreign owners. They are then "imported" back into the US. Because of the our goofy laws they have to marked with the importers mark.

Some are junk, some are good just like anything.
