View Full Version : Build party?
Anyone got one going? I have a couple of rommy g's I'd like to get finished. If so, I'm in for bringing some food and drinks!

How close are you to Greely?
Try getting in touch with jreifsch80-It seems like he's the organizer of the build parties out there ;)
That and from the looks of it theres a bunch of other guys ready to do some building.
I wish i had more vacation time so i can come out there-just finished a G and now im starting on my Polish underfolder and AMD and its allways more fun when you have a good group going(that and you never know what other little parts you need ;) )
I'm in Arvada, but totally happy to drive to Greeley. I'll see if I can send a pm to him and see if we can't get one scheduled.

I allways rope jr into these things[ROFL1]
He's a great guy to work with and quite knowlagable in building, plus he has all the tools.
I hope ya guys get enough people together to make it fun!!
If not, I'm almost certain he won't mind helping a fellow enthusiast out.
Now once I get out there jr's gonna volenteer my services![Help] (he's so gonna kill me![LOL])

Don't worry Bob I won't kill ya, I still have a lot of guns I need you to rust blue ;) remember all the yugos and east german clones I'm working on and have? They all need a good rust bluing lol I figured I'd just wait till you get out here since you're an expert lol.
Anyway let's orginize a build party. I really don't have much room unless we go out to my warehouse. Or maybe jim is feeling lonely and wants some company lol

I also am in Arvada and have a polish underfolder I'd like to finish. So I would more than likely be in as well.
Sweet. The more the merrier. Let's make this happen. Anyone have a place to hold the build? Also jr, I'd be happy to help with getting equipment moved around and setup. Driving isn't a big deal for me. Let me know what I can do to help out.
I have a romy g kit that I seemed to have fubar'd. I have a receiver on it but it won't run right. I think I might have to start over from scratch? The problem is I welded it on and I'm not sure I can get the old receiver back off without damage. Do you think a help party would be good too?

well i finally ordered my 74 barrel and flat so finally maybe i'll build something at a build party haha. anyway it might make more sense to have the bp in the denver area since most of you guys live there. i can bring my tools along of course even if needed i can bring my compressor for my pneumatic rivet sqeezer since it works best at around 110-120 psi. i only have room for about 1 maybe 2 in my dungeon ak workshop (it puts the lotion in the basket or it gets the hose again haha had to say that)

I have a 60 gallon compressor if needed so there's one less thing you need to haul if its in denver. I'd like to check out the dungeon regardless of the party location if you don't mind.
Great!Now I'm on a retainer!![Bang][LOL]
I figure when i get out there I'm going to do some shopping around so I can build up a nice parking and bluing setup.
Hey doc-how is that welded?
If its welded at the seams like by the front of the trunnion you might be able just to grind it iff and file/grind smooth and save it.
Even if its welded where the rivits go you can probably just drill it out.
Either way it still might be saveable-just weld where needed and belt sand.
Ive done that to a few fubared ones myself-just back what you weld with a brass plate so you dont have to clean up too much on the insides
Its welded front and back with a arc welder. And I think the barrel rivets are filled in too.

Oh Bob thanks for reminding me, you do awesome manganese oxide parking so not only bluing but I'll make you help me park stuff too ;) (as if we'd need excuses to hang out)
Doc, try seeing if you can mostly demill your weld gun if it's a bear it might just be worth it to buy new trunnions. I think Bob has a contact in ny that was for a time selling polish from trunnions (polish are nice machining)

Hmm-Ive done arc welding on truck frames so I know how deep the welds can get-the receiver may be scrap.
But carefully grinding may save the trunnions.
Basicaly grind the receiver or cut the receiver to get to the trunnion and work from there.
The barrel rivits you can drill out once you grind off the receiver.
It may take some patience but can be done.
You can find another rommy trunnion on gunbroker for $25

Hes a good seller-Ive dealt with him before.
But you wont have a matching kit so you would need to headspace again
Just hopefully the pin that holds the barrell isnt welded-that would render both the trunnion and barrell useless-at least in my oppinion-due to the heat of the weld and the weld saturation into the barrell,i wouldnt trust it to any pressures.
Yeup justin thats why i want to get a full setup going.
I also know a lot of people wont do parking themselves so i can probably contract myself out ;)
I do however want to get a big enough tank so I can at least finish off my Winchester Garand-but I'm seriously thinking of letting BP Tactical do it for me after seeing some of his work-I'm good but he's a Master!!![Bow]
Anybody ever make an AK pistol?

zteknik, I know that i would be willing to contract out some of your park/bluing services. I have a virgin barrel and a receiver that are still stainless on a nearly complete polish build. (http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/member.php?u=4433)
Can you tell me what the advantages or disadvantages are between one and another? From you personal exp. I have very little knowledge in the matter [Help]

If you're looking for a russian or bulgy left side folder then either an aksu from rguns or find one on gunbroker. If you want a right side polish, german, romy style then get a tantal kit from apex

I would say 775 without a barrel for a tula krink is a decent deal, once those dry up expect to see real russian krink kits on gunbroker for over 1000 there's a guy making barrels for those also bulgy 74 barrels can be turned down for those as well.

also where is the best place to get a receiver (or flats) and barrel
For receivers nodak's are nice also there are 74u llc. For flats the only way to go in my opinion is ak-builder. Barrels, the only place at the moment that has euro barrels is what a country, I was irritated to discover that they raised the their price to like 140 for a new bulgy barrel. I just ordered one yesterday. Also arms of america has american barrels. If you want a cool folding 74 ak-builder also is selling tantal kits with american barrels installed.

Well thanks for keeping me in mind[Tooth]
I dont know if you'd want to wait untill I finaly move out there though
Im in N.Y and i dont have an ffl so i couldn't do the receiver, but i can do the barrell.
I'm hoping to be moved out there maybee by next fall if all goes well
Now me personaly i pefer bluing-its just an asthetic preferance for me
Nothing says classic like a nice blue job.
But for convenience and ease i do park on most my aks, although when I build my Polish fixed stock I'm going to blue it.
For the most part both are durable and easy to mantain
I've done both on the same kind of weapons and as far as wear I realy see no difference.
Its realy a matter of look your trying to get.
But the good thing about parking is you can apply another coat of would you say protection,by shooting on some gunkote or whatever to make the finish almost indestructable.
You realy cant do that with bluing-theres realy nothing for the other coat to "bite" into, unless you scuff it up-but then your ruining the apeal of the bluing.
If you ever want give me a pm somtime
I can allways give you some tips [Tooth]
